The Living Seas: Through the Grapevine

I was back in the World for this past week, ie spring break. I was talking to a chap working the outside queue for spaceship earth, and he told me that the seacab reactivation would be tough and borderline unlikely, because the tunnel(s) are in serious disrepair with "major water leaks" and the like. I was planning on heading to LS first anyhow (and did), and man do I love that place...anyway, I talked to a CM there and she told me that 1. the tunnels were fine, 2.The CMs used to hang out in there all the time, but now they aren't allowed to.

On a side note, I *LOVE* the ambient Living Seas Theme heard throughout the pavilion...no joke, it's the best (right up there with tomorrow's child)

Sounds like a cast member messing with ya. I really don't think Disney would let a major water leak get out of hand on the seacab tunnel since it's at about the same level as the rest of lower level of Seabase Alpha.

Not to mention there aren't any bubbles coming from the tunnel.

There's no water leak. That's just crazy. LOL. The Seacabs were closed because they were a "terrorist threat." Please, don't ask me why they are. I can only assume it's because there were no doors on the seacabs. LOL. No clue really though. There are plans though to remove the sea cabs and create a walk through there. :)

I don't get it. Aren't the Sea Cabs like most of the other cars on the other dark rides? Why weren't the other dark rides closed if this was a "terrorist threat"?

Man, I really hope they do something with the LS. It's a great idea for a pavilion, but since they have closed the ride portion, no one wants to even go there. I personally like watching the manatees, but they need some other form of attraction there as well.

PS. I love the atmosphere music at LS too. I play it on my Disney radio station. :D

They've been closed for almost 3 years now ...

Well, i'd believe it...think about it. They were enclosed, surrounded by water. One small blast to take out a window, and the room floods, and as someone stated earlier, thats on the same level as seabase alpha. Ever seen Free Willy? Same basic effect.

The wya I heard it, the Seacabs were just a cost cutting measure Disney took during a slow period and it stuck.

2 less castmembers...one to load and one to unload.

As stupid as it sounds, it was also an insurance nightmare. As unlikley as it seems, people could have been hurt by the seacabs. When it closed, they couldnt find enough reasons to re-open them and pay for the liability possibilties.

I don’t see how the liability would be any greater than Haunted Mansion's?

There were NO RESTRAINTS at all on the Sea Cabs. The Haunted Mansion has a Safety Bar.:D

Well, I would imagine the supposed risk would be extremely low, especially considering the same type of accident could occur when boarding or disembarking from the Haunted Mansion. Regardless, I would think it would be no more dangerous than a moving walkway or an escalator.

Cept there are cast members actually presant when entering and exiting the HM.

Seacabs ran un-supervised during the ride, so people could essentially easily jump out.

...same could (and has) happen on Spaceship Earth..difference being they never really had the option of eliminating the ride system of SE :)

You’re right, they could. But there’s not much of where they could go, the only danger would be the gap between the stationary flooring and the moving walkway. I suspect there haven’t been many, if any accidents in relation to this attraction (barring the fact that the ride’s been closed the past three years).

Yeah, but they'd need insurance none the less. The pavillion can function (although badly) without em..so for now i dont see any return of them.
