The Little Mermaid is kind of... weird.

So I was just thinking, I thought in Aladdin, Jasmine had to be married by her birthday and at the end of the movie, she chose Aladdin. Doesn't that mean they did get married?
The question is answered in the film right before Jasmine chooses Aladdin.
"Well am I sultan or am I sultan? From this day forth the Princess shall marry whomever she deems worthy!"
Her father realized he alone makes the laws and changed the law.

Yes, I know. What I'm saying is I thought she had to get married by her birthday. At the beginning of the movie, she has to choose someone to marry by her birthday, but that someone had to be a prince. At the end of the movie, her father decides she can choose whoever she wants, and she chooses Aladdin, but he never says she doesn't have to get married by her birthday - just that she doesn't have to marry a prince.

He is the sole arbiter of what is and is not law. How is changing both parts of the law some big jump? Even if it's not changed then, he has decided to act on his ability to change law and can easily do so when her birthday nears. We also do not now how close her birthday was to occurring.

Three days at the beginning of the movie. I would assume if he meant she didn't have to marry on het birthday he would have specified when he said she didn't have to marry a prince.

Ah yeas, I forgot he says three days. But again, who is going to stop the Sultan? That's his whole point. He's in charge and change the law at will.

Keep in mind that Ariel was interested in the human world before she became infatuated with Eric. If anything, I think seeing him may have been her breaking point, on top of her father destroying her hidden collection. But otherwise, yeah, it is kinda weird. o_O
