Trip Report The Last Hurrah ***Completed***

Where: POP
When: Nov 11-16
Why:

1. Star Wars
2. to get one final use out of my AP
3. to have one last hurrah before this arrested development period of my life may end.

Who:

During the trip planning process there was a lot of uncertainty of exactly who would be going.

Final trip manifest:

1. BES

DH couldn’t go due to work. It’s a double bummer because he doesn’t love his job and he was really starting to warm up to the idea of WDW.

No stowaway youngling will be present on the trip either. This one is a bummer for real life but on the bright side I can ride all of the rides and drink all of the drinks on this trip.

My previous solo trip was more of a physical break from my crazy work hours. I think this trip will end up being being a mental and emotional break.

Will probably try to do this TR live. Obviously going to focus on being in the moment but you all are great company in lines and on busses etc.

My take on the blue milk was middle of the road. Do you fall into the love or hate it camp? I’m planning on trying the green another day.

I have not tried Blue yet, they were OUT OF IT the day I went to GE, but you said it was better than the wonderful, glorious Butter Beer? Now I really got to try it:!!!

Wednesday morning continued:

Imagination next with practically no wait. The CM manning the cars was a hoot.

Food time. This time with daylight and hence pictures.

Impossible Slider :

Then crab cake. It was too... crabby for me.

Dessert next to get rid of that crab taste. I got Chocolate Picante.

I agreed with the baker CM last night who recommended this to me that the mango on the side was a missed opportunity. It was just kind of there. I disagreed with her about the spice level. I wished it was waaay spicier.

2nd FP for SE.

Trying to really take in what I currently like about Epcot in case it disappears before my next visit. Still a little bummed I didn’t get to enjoy the Fountain of Nations one last time.

Just overhead some lady say she was glad “they finally got rid of that stupid fireworks show here”

Now off to see the new Experience center.

Wednesday afternoon:

I really like the new Epcot colors and symbols. Thought the experience center was neat.

All of construction at once is a little bit of a bummer but I’m looking forward to seeing the final result.

Oh why do you have to rub salt in old wounds. Also can I buy this poster please?

Wednesday afternoon continued:

Walked onto Gran Fiesta. Didn’t get a pic but in one of the rooms there was a big blue metal bar with hooks on it. Did not seem to be part of the ride. For cleaning perhaps?

Used a FP for FEA. Almost had another Disney first of trying school bread but I decided not to.

Instead got a Quesito at the Carribean. (Another recommendation from my CM pal last night.) It was like a mini cheese danish with guava. She was right. The guava was excellent with the cream cheese.

Grabbed a coffee and hopped onan actual Disney first for me:

Checked out the new exhibit in Morocco. Really neat. I won’t spoil it all but it is worth the stop.

Popped over to France. Liked the holiday displays here:

Wednesday afternoon continued:

Next stop: Canada. I was on a hurrah mission for something I bypassed getting on my other trips this year.

(Likely foreshadowing to where it is going to end up)

The Canadian CMs were excited that someone wanted to experience the glory of Coffee Crisp. I was excited that I got an AP discount to ease the blow of the marked up price.

Made my way out of Epcot- slowly

(Love the flower basket colors. Or colours rather. This was still in Canada.)

Pit stop for free chocolate because hurrah.

Wednesday afternoon continued:

My destination: Coronado Springs.The resort I have *almost* stayed at several times.

Loved the new lobby. Loved the smell of it.

Loved the old lobb slightly more.

Walked around the lake- except for the cabanas part.

Lovely. Liked the feel of the resort. Too big for solo. I think DH would like it though.

(Ranchos was so beautiful but so far!)

Next it was time for my real destination for this excursion. For those keeping track I had zero drinks so far today...

Wednesday evening:

Let me preface this post by saying either all of my other drinks have really weak or this drink. Yes singular. Has been really strong.

My destination was the Dahlia lounge. I came for the gin. But stayed for the bourbon.

Got the Alla Prima Manhattan.

So good. This was the Manhattan that I dreamed of at WL during my Feb solo trip but didn’t get.

This was as good if not better than the Manhattans at Universal’s Cabana Bay’s Swizzle Lounge.

Also started with the Olive Oil Poached Tuna Tapa(s?)

Super good.

Since I was more hungry and more drunk that I previously thought I added on the Tortilla Espanola tapa. Also very good.

My server recommended the Valdeon Blue Cheese tapa. He prefaced it by saying he “doesn’t like blue cheese but....“ I also don’t like blue cheese but am a sucker for someone trying an upsell.

Bobby was right. So good. Even for blue cheese.

Wednesday evening:

Talked to DH. Boarded bus from CSR to AK and then from AK to POP. He didn’t even mention how drunk it felt like I sounded.

Back to POP in under an hour. I declined housekeeping for this trip but came back to a room that was half Alien Spinning Saucers cleaned up.

It was my understanding that they may take the trash out on a safety check but they did a lot more than that.

Pajamas were moved. Bed made. Dirty towel gone but not replaced.

As a female solo traveler this made me feel uncomfortable. Some people decline Mousekeeping for reasons other than a gift card.

I was going to leave my purse in the room tonight but not now.

Did reply to the manager’s welcome note that asked for feedback. This is as close as I have ever gotten to a Disney complaint.

As a female solo traveler this made me feel uncomfortable. Some people decline Mousekeeping for reasons other than a gift card.

I was going to leave my purse in the room tonight but not now.

Did reply to the manager’s welcome note that asked for feedback. This is as close as I have ever gotten to a Disney complaint.

My daughter and I just got back a few weeks ago from a stay at POP. We declined mousekeeping for our stay. After our first day we came back to a totally made up room. I called the front desk and after some discussion I found out it wasn't entered correctly in the system. Forward to next day, I still hadn't received an email saying I was opting out of mousekeeping (I was told I'd get an email so I kept checking) so i called again, still not in the system. After that 2nd call it was finally cleared up.

Just to warn you, on one of our breaks we were sitting in our beds and there was a knock on the door. A young woman came in to do a room check. She asked if everything was ok and if we needed anything. It was strange but i guess you'll have that now. Just giving you a heads up in case it happens to you.

Before I was plant based, I would buy several Coffee Crisps and eat them for breakfast (it’s like coffee and a danish in one ).

That Manhattan - yum! Manhattans and Old Fashioneds are my go-to drinks

I’m with you in housekeeping. I was traveling in Atlanta to speak at a conference in September and opted out of housekeeping. I came back from my presentation and the bed wasn’t made, but my dirty towels had clearly been moved and other things in the bathroom as well. No note, no explanation when I called. It made me feel VERY uncomfortable as a woman traveling alone.

I agree with you and others on that. When travelling solo, you can never be too caferul.
You don't have to carry your purse with you at all times, remember, you can leave valuables inside the safe.

Within an hour of my survey comment I got a voicemail from the manager on duty. I called back and she apologized.

She stated that it was mistakenly cleaned and that it would only be safety checks from now on.

I’m glad to know that they took my comment seriously. But hopefully not too seriously. I certainly don’t want anyone in trouble over cleaning up my towels. I voiced that to the manager as well.
