Whose Park Is It Anyway?

Originally conceptualized by MonorailRed, Whose Park is it Anyway? is a free for all thread of shenanigans (that we should totally reboot!) where we go through the various sketches of the show, but in a Disney Parks format. For instance, Scenes from a Hat is a comedy sketch where scenarios from the audiences are formed, and the participating members need to act as if they are in the situation.

How we applied that to Disney Parks was for instance - "Waiting in Line for Guest Relations on Opening Day" or "First ride on Superstar Limo" -- and we would react and create a comedic back and forth.

Imagineering Competitions
The Road Trip

February 29th, 2016 - April 11th, 2016
Hosted by @IAmNotAHufflepuff - The Road Trip was a deviation from several of the imagineering competitions that came before it (everything perhaps Theme Park Apprentice on the ThemeParkInsider) in that it was exclusively non-Disney Parks projects. The premise was that the teams would be going on a 'road trip' through various parks throughout the United States, making stops at Cedar Point, Six Flags, Sesame Place, Hershey Park, and more.

12 contestants signed up and the teams were paired off into 3 teams of 4 contestants each:

Dream Disney Resort - The (Almost) Final Chapter

In March 2016, MEW set on a multi-month journey to complete his Dream Disney Resort - The Final Chapter, which ended up not being the final chapter and is going still into 2018. The ever evolving Dream Disney Resort is a 1,500 acre multi-day experience with all the bells and whistles you can imagine wrapped up in one Disney Park.

While this entry is not the final version, it is worthy of recognition in the archives of the Jedi Order I mean... the forum

Raiders of the Lost Art

Concept art in armchair imagineering is something that truly helps provide more context towards your ideas and in a way, makes them feel 'real'. With so much concept art scattered around the forum, and several artists among us, I wanted to create a hub for art both new and old, similar to this thread, as a way to chronicle the artwork on the forums - and thus we have the Raiders of the Lost Art.

The Next Disney Park Icon?

A very innovative open brainstorming concept - designing the next Disney Parks icon, was started as a question by David2319 and picked up momentum heading into the months ahead of it. Many ideas were tossed around considering that there are so many directions you could take with either a 5th gate to WDW, or a 3rd gate to DLR, and so on.

Imagineering Competitions

Timeline
April 17th, 2016 - July 1st, 2016
The House Cup was an imagineering competition created and hosted by MonorailRed and spacemt354 for the 2016 season.
(with initial assistance from IDInstitute, and ultimately judged by @MonorailRed and @Voxel)

The premise of the competition revolved around the theme of Harry Potter and the four Houses of Hogwarts, which would compete with each other for the 'House Cup' through imagineering challenges and activities, earning 'house points' along the way. Through the '7 Years' (7 Challenges) at Hogwarts, the team with the most amount of house points at the end of the competition would win.

This format was unique in a lot of ways back in early 2016, as the vast majority of competitions at the time were elimination based, with one member ultimately winning rather than a 'team'.

Having a non-elimination team based game would then go on to influence future competitions as well, such as The Great Movie Ride Competition, and have now become a vital part of the imagineering competitions on wdwmagic! It was also the first competition for now veteran armchair imagineers such as @kmbmw777 - who continued to produce great things for the forum ever since.

The Houses

Given the non-elimination factor in the game, and that Houses could expand as the game went on, The House Cup still holds the record for largest cast in a competition on wdwmagic.

With over 50 contributing members spread out among the teams as well as in judging roles and observing roles, which were reserved for folks who wanted to be included in the brainstorming PMs to see what imagineering competitions were like.

Chugwater - Celebrating 12 Years of Home on the Range

As tcool continues his Disney Singapore Resort concept, as will be detailed in an earlier year of the encyclopedia, a Home on the Range land was built for his Magic Kingdom park, close by to Westernland - Chugwater a quiet little Western town just left to Nebraska. Perhaps this was close to April Fool's Day 2016 but nevertheless this was quite the accomplishment as we all know how much Home on the Range is beloved in the Disney canon of films.

Walt Disney World 1966

As folks reading this in the present (or sometime in the future) might be able to tell, large open brainstorming threads have a commonplace on the forums, and moreover, the content pumped out tends to finish at least the first phase of whatever resort complex is being designed. Examples of such projects are Club 32's Sydney Disneyland and Universal Australia in So, You Want To Be An Imagineer Season 15 "Uniting Universal"

However, back in early 2016 - they were practically non-existent. Open brainstorming existed, but not to the consistent level it is today. Many threads would teeter out before they even got off the ground. Walt Disney World 1966 truly paved the way into the great big beautiful tomorrow - gaining tons of replies and contributors along the way of rebuilding Walt Disney World from scratch as if you were starting in 1966 and working your way to present day.

Hosted by @tcool123 - The One Sentence Competition Season 2 Episode 2 marked the first time in the competition's history that there was more than one episode per season. While shorter in duration than the first episode, Episode 2 still carried the momentum of the game, despite it being a busy time of year and contestants having to drop out. Nonetheless, it paved the way for the game continue moving forward due to the consistent support it was gathering.

As a note of other significant to Episode 2, this was one of the last competitions unkadug had competed in. Looking back through the competition, there was one project in particular where we had to design a flat ride for Epcot

unkadug's proposal below is actually now rumored to be a possibility for the UK Pavilion - he predicted the future! And we will miss him.

England Pavilion Mary Poppins Carousel

Mary Poppins finally gets her, long overdue, own attraction in the England Pavilion with her very own Carousel.

Complete with replicas of the Horse Conveyances straight out of the movie along with an animatronic Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious Band providing the carousel music, the theming is pure Mary Poppins.

Disney Rio Resort

A continuation and extension of his original Disneyland Brazil earlier in the 2016 calendar year, mickeyfan returned in May with a new take on the Disney Rio Resort - with the tagline:

"The Disney Rio Resort is the newest member of the Disney Parks and Resorts Family. Located 20 miles outside of Rio de Janero, this new world class vacation destination will ignite a beautiful symphony of fantasy for every person that enters it's gates. The two parks, 5 resorts, and an immersive entertainment district of the Disney Rio Resort are sure to bring the newest and greatest technology with rides and entertainment mixing with classic and new stories."

While the project still has room to be complete, the submitted ideas for it are top notch as Brazil is one of the go to places along with Sydney on the forum for new Disney Resorts.

Hosted by @TheOriginalTiki and @JokersWild - So, You Want To Be An Imagineer Season 13: Get a Clue was the first installment of the competition on wdwmagic, after 11 Seasons on VisionsFantastic and one season on sywtbai .com.

While the game has gone through several variations over the years, this season's theme was around S.E.A. (The Society of Explorers and Adventures) and tied to a murder mystery theme, where 3 'killers' were among the contestants in the game. The killers had to power to meddle with and take out other contestants, while the non-killer contestants had the power to eliminate the killers if they could collectively guess correctly who they were.

The original 3 teams were Team Hightower, Team Gracey, and Team Mystic - with the post-merge team dubbed Team Chandler.

Energy 3.0 Concept

Revitalized from a concept fox_198 had written 3 years prior, the new Energy 3.0 concept was a great remake that brought much of the flair from 1982 back to the pavilion. Wonderfully written and detailed, it was a great personal project that still holds up to this day. Furthermore, in the same thread, @michmousefan designed this brilliant intro logo for a revamped Universe of Energy Pavilion, keeping the classic feel but updating it for the next generation
