As everyone working at Disney knows, things that make it past Blue – Sky are not the things you see in concept arts. Things evolve and change for various reasons, even in development. Did you know Pirates of the Caribbean AND The Haunted Mansion were going to be walk-through attractions until the discovery that people could get around more quickly by vehicle? Or did you know that the original “weenie” of DAK was to be Noah’s Ark? It was deemed to religious. You, the contestants, will have to incorporate things that you discovered last challenge through personal experience, time constraints, or judge’s comments into a "refurbished" description of your very same restaurant AND give a NEW description of a permanent ODV (OutDoor Vending) building that has parked itself near the restaurant.

Criteria will be the same as the previous challenge, but ADDED will be:

- Improvement from original
- “Disney Details” (i.e. the little details that help tell a story and immerse people into another world)
-
YOUR NEW O.D.V.:
- Theming
- Connection to your restaurant
- Menu

AND…
- “Disney Magic” (i.e. whatever makes us say “Yes, THAT deserves a spot in a Disney park!”)

Edelweiss Snacks in Fantsyland, DL. It's near the Matterhorn and sells Turkey Legs, as you can see by the bronze turkey on the sign. Because of the proximity to Matterhorn (a SWISS mountain), the name fits!

Don Tomas is an immigrant from Mexico who has set up shop in Paradise Pier, touting "The Hottest Legs In Paradise Pier!" He has pictures from his hometown all over the ODV, setting the story. His name, "Tomas", is Spanish for "Tom", as in "Tom Turkey"!

Of course, a well-themed cart, like the old McDonald’s Congesta Wagon, will do. The official story goes like this:

With the rush of prospectors passing through Frontierland in search of gold, lots of folks in town started looking for ways to cash in on all the excitement. Back in 1853, ol' McDonald (who had a farm, ei-ei-o), a potato farmer, decided to set up his cook wagon on the hill under the big oak tree, just off the main trail. To drum up interest in his French fried delicacies, McDonald even came up with a catch phrase and posted it on the front of the wagon: "There's gold in them thar fries!" (with a symbol of a golden arch to emphasize the fact).
Business was booming for a couple of good years, right up until the great flood of 1855. Legend has it that miners disturbed the spirits of the mountain by removing gold from Big Thunder, causing all sorts of natural disasters. In fact, the nearby river raised so much, the water reached right up to McDonald's wagon on the hill. The wagon survived, but when the water receded, the wagon started to go with it. It slid down the hill, crashed through a fence (and sharp-eyed guests could see the poorly repaired fence), and got lodged in the mud down below.
This didn't stop ol' man McDonald, though. He just laid down some planks so folks wouldn't get their boots muddy, and he has kept right on selling his delicious French fried potatoes to this day.
There was also a sign placed nearby that proclaimed, "Same location since '53." The "53" was scratched out and painted over with a "55." Not only did this help support the story, it was also a reference to McDonald's history. Brothers ________ and Mac McDonald opened their original restaurant in San Bernardino, Calif., in 1953. Kroc opened his first location in Des Plaines, Ill., in 1955.

You’ll have tomorrow (Sunday), Monday (Columbus Day), and Tuesday (Turn – In Day) to re-form your ideas and put more work into your ideas. Maybe some time for research, Google Earth-ing, or Youtube-ing?

This is a NON – ELIMINATION challenge, but the winner WILL get a perk next challenge! Happy Imagineering and Good Luck!

(you don’t have to do this project, it is OPTIONAL, BUT if you do do it, you will be in the running for the SURPRISE / possible advantage in the next Project 6) ALSO, if you DON’T post on Tuesday, you have a chance of NOT getting it graded… I will post Winner on Thursday as well as PROJECT 6 before I head off to WDW for the weekend, from Thursday-Sunday)

Ok so the ODV needs to tie in to our restaurant? If so, I have a couple ideas.

Also are we supposed to add what we missed or need to improve upon and repost it here? So for me I would repost with costumes,tables,etc.

That's right, paste it onto this thread and IMPROVE IMPROVE IMPROVE! Think of your original project as the skeleton that needs to be "fleshed out" (I know, bad pun!). Pretend it's a real pitch... add onto your backstory, add ALL details that you can think of, basically attack from all sides. In other words, better your project. Don't only use judge's comments; also use your own ideas and stuff you couldn't or didn't think of because of lack of time.

Remember, your ODV should somehow connect with your restaurant... just as your restaurant has a story, your ODV should also have a story... just a smaller one!

This project is to get you into the habit of self-checking and adding detail onto your projects once you've finished off the original idea.

Rocket Tower Plaza Snack Port:
The Rocket Tower Plaza Snack Port is going to be located across from the Skyview Diner and Carousel of Progress in the current Stitch Stage location. It is fully outdoors.
Story:
Restaurant mogul Zaphod Glort’s new business is doing great in Tomorrowland. It has already won over the title as best sit down restaurant in the galaxy, beating out the Tomorrowland Noodle Station and Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Café. One thing he has noticed, however, is that Tomorrowland is a city on the go. Many visitors don’t have time to stop at the Skyview Diner because they need to catch the TTA or board their personal rocket ship and blast off to a different location. To solve this problem, Zaphod has just opened a grab’n’go vending area that specializes in snacks rather than major food. Now robots, aliens, and humans can grab a bite to eat then hop on the Metroliner to get to their next location.
Theming:
Of all the strange architecture in Tomorrowland, this has got to be the most bizarre. The vending port is designed to look like a small scale UFO has just landed in the middle of Tomorrowland. The circular building is lit up by lights in the roof above guest’s heads. A neon ring goes all the way around the structure. The metallic walls are a dark blue that blend with the surrounding. On the very top of the building is a rotating beacon (similar to the ones in the Avenue of the Planets) that tells people it is there. Small screens on the walls show animated aliens and robot landing their ships at the vending port, grabbing their meal in a few seconds, and zooming off to whatever galaxy they are from. The screens also show the TNN (Tomorrowland News Network) news station that broadcasts to every resident in Tomorrowland. The screens also show a brief 1 minute clip of Zaphod himself welcoming everybody to his snack port.

The Tomorrowland Skyview Diner

Using the former Tomorrowland Skyway location is the Skyview Diner. The restaurant is located above the current restrooms and serves as a look-out of Tomorrowland. The location is also partially covered so you can't see the 7 Seas Lagoon or any hotels outside of the Magic Kingdom.

Story:
While not explaining much up-front, theming shows that the back story is as follows;
"Famous restaurant entrepeneur Zaphod Glort has come to Tomorrowland and has brought some business with him. He has just recently opened a futuristic, skkyview restaurant that looks out over Downtown Tomorrowland. The restaurant has received lots of endorsement from Tomorrowland and has even received positive reviews from alien critics. As it seems, business is booming and the empty location of the Skyway parking garage is now full of hungry customers from all around the galaxy."

Theme:
The exterior of the open ended restaurant will reflect the rest of the land's look. Neon strips run along the sides of the roof. Massive, metallic legs will support the building while the bathrooms are hidden underneath. Stairs will run up both sides of the restaurant while a small balcony will let guests enjoy their meals outside. Roatating beacon lights are also supported by small spires on some parts of the roof. Elevator access is also featured on the far left side. There is also a small downstairs area/court located next to Space Mountain's entrance. Behind this court is a large waterfall that changes colors and some mettallic umbrellas.

The interior is fairly unique. Above guests heads is a huge glass window that shows the "sky". The sky effect is actually an LCD screen showing spaceships and large planets floating above everyone's head. This completes the effect of Tomorrowland being a space-port.

The restauraunt's bathroom's are located on the downstairs floor. The Tomorrowland loop is played inside them and the tiles have fun little space patterns engraved in them. For the sensor flushing, there is a robotic voice that says "Thank You and enjoy your stay in Tomorrowland."

Props and Elements:
The props and elements used are the following;
-Map of Tomorrowland (Land itself, Tomorrowland Towers, Progress Community, etc.) located at top of stairs/etrance to restaurant.
-Portrait of Zaphod himself. Features "Founder and Head Alien" underneath picture.
-Tables are designed to mach with rest of land. Mettalic supports.
-Color scheme features purple, red, green, and blue.
-Neon lights are a reddish tint. Inside neon changes colors.
-Waiter/Waitresses outfits are multi-colored. Reflect restaurant's color scheme.
-Critic Reviews (each one boasting a little inside joke such as a review from A.E. Spinlock)
-A news clipping from the Tomorrowland Times
-Ads for various location (hair salon, space port, Indy Speedway, etc.) The ads are framed.

TOM MORROW'S TOMORROWLAND RESTAURANT

This restaurant will be located in Tomorrowland at the Skyway plot. For those wondering about restrooms,they would be avalible to ALL GUESTS,not just diners due to their close proximity to the entrance.

THE STORY: Tom Morrow,a Tomorrowland resident has decided to open a restaurant that is more easily avalible for the other residents of Tomorrowland, because there are no other sit-down dining experiences for the residents with some more elaborate food items(think how Cosmic Rays has simple choices).

THEMING:

INSIDE:The inside will be dark(think Rainforest Cafe'/T-Rex). There will be hanging metallic planets. All nine (yes,I included Pluto) will be represented along with the Sun. These planets will hang from the ceiling on the second floor over section 3 in the below layout. An animatronic Tom Morrow will welcome guests in the waiting area. (section 1 in the layout.) Periodic announcements such as "9-Eye Party of 9" would also add to the experience. Fake rockets hang from the ceiling and occasionally a shooting star goes by. The inside look will follow that of the rest of TL. (The Stitch,MILF area)

The Tables: 2 silver metal arches with circular holes would act as legs with glass tops.

The Chairs: The chairs would be either benches with silver metal sides and black cushions,or chairs with 2 metal arches for legs with black cushions that have silver stripes.

CM Costumes: The CM costumes would be gray,with a black swoosh that has red trim on each side of the buttons that would go from the shoulders to the bottom of the shirts.

Restrooms: Restrooms will play the "Monorail Song" now heardnear the city of tomorrow model on the TTA. The walls will be tiled and painted with metallic paint that represent the planets that hang in the dining area.

OUTSIDE: The outside will follow the new color scheme of SM and the arcade. White/Blue/Lime Green accents/Gray. There will also be a blacony dining area overlooking TL. See section 5 in the below layout.

ELEMENTS THAT TIE IN TO THE LAND: Tom Morrow's Tomorrowland Resaurant will be tied in to the area 2 ways.

1.) Tom Morrow will operate the restuarant.

2.) It will follow the color scheme of nearby areas.

Here is a breakdown/description of numbered sections:

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE RESTAURANT IS 2 STORIES! THE DIAGRAM IS A VEIW AS IF YOU WERE LOOKING DOWN AT THE 2nd! YOU SHOULD GET A GOOD UNDERSTANDING OF THE 1st FLOOR BY MY DESCRIPTION!

1) Lobby/Waiting area where you will be welcomede by an animatronic Tom Morrow. It is used as dining on the 2nd floor.

2) Kitchen area. This area is a kitchen on BOTH FLOORS.

3) Open on 2nd floor,dining on 1st. OK... Remember this is a view looking DOWN ON THE 2nd floor. The gray area is open and looks down to a dining area on the 1st floor. This is also where planets will hang from above.

4) Dining area. These areas are also used for dining on the 1st floor.

5) Outdoor dining. This area is an outdoor areea that overlooks TL. It is an indoor space on the 1st floor.

6) Restrooms. This is used as restrooms on both floors. The restrooms on the 1st floor are accesible by ALL guests by entering the side of the restaurant,or through the waiting area.

7) Stairway between 1st and 2nd floors.

WHAT WILL BE SERVED: Breakfast,Lunch and Dinner will be served.

Ok. I could not develop themed names for EVERYTHING...but there are a significant amount more.

I will be posting the ODV between now and Tuesday.
