I am going to preface this with that this project is a last minute addition because our sign ups ended earlier than expected so instead of letting you all wait forever, we thought you’d like a little warm up. And we also wanted to keep as close as possible to our normal schedule.

This Practice Project 2 will have a “judging” system the same as the previous one. But, all the judging will change with the REAL Project 1. This project will let us know WHO can/should be the FIRST Team Leader and we can hopefully get the teams even when we make them for the rest of the season. This project will let us do that.

Onto the project! (since this project was a last minute addition, sorry, but no good intro/story from Disneyson) This project will test your creative spirit.

Your task is to change ONE, and ONLY ONE scene in ONE of following attractions: Jungle Cruise, Living with the Land, Great Movie Ride, or Kali River Rapids. The idea has to be completely original. Furthermore, it should NOT be terribly long and detailed. We're giving you almost a week, but that is simply so we can re-rail ourselves onto the set schedule. Feel free to add visuals, because they are always a plus, but not mandatory.

CRITERIA:
n Redo ONE SCENE in ONE of the following attractions:
o Jungle Cruise
o Living with the Land
o Great Movie Ride
o Kali River Rapids
n Completely Original
n Fit with theme/story of the existing attraction. NO OTHER CHANGES IN THE ATTRACTION other than the ONE SCENE.

Due: Friday February 19th, 2010, 8:00pm EST

Hope You All Enjoy! And Have Fun!

Keep this in mind: A good project is not necessarily a long project. I would much rather read something short and to the point, while explaining the project to the fullest, than something that is long and drawn out, while still conveying the same idea.

Hooray!

Alrighty then I guess I already know what I'm going to be doing for my project! So we have to redo one scene in one attraction (I'm going to go with the Jungle Cruise), and make it completely original...hmm I have what I want to do in mind I just don't know how to do it...

Can you clarify a bit more on the rules please, I'm kind of having a brain fart right now. Do we replace a scene or do we refurbish and change up a scene? I'm just a bit confused here on this subject. And if we're just changing an old scene to make it more modern would it be considered unoriginal if it was just a revised version of that old scene?

Oh and by the way, thanks for letting me play after my extreme moment of
EPIC FAIL
:D

Project 2, Ride Scene Revision

I've chosen to re-do a scene from the Great Movie Ride and the scene I chose is the finale montage.

As we enter the final scene and the host shows us just some of his favorite movies. Both ride vehicles sit side by side as we are engulfed a massive Imax Screen set up like a dome above us and a small screen starts playing what was originally the finale starting with black and white movies.

The black and white movies give way to Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz opening her door into a world of color.

At this point the bottom of the screen opens up and what looks like movie projector lights up in front of us. The ride vehicles then move forward towards the light and we are shuffled into a hallway of giant film strips.
gmr.jpg

With the use of advanced LED technology, each frame in the film strips are showing a montage of some of the most famous and well loved movies of all time. As we hear echoes of famous movie quotes set to some of the most iconic movie themes.

We continue into light of the movie projector until it all fades into the unloading and exiting area.

This new ending would be easily modifiable for adding new movies into the fold. It also slightly encourages repeat riding for fans who want to identify all the movies in all the film strips. It could also potentially tie into the new REI experience where individual guests' own favorite movies would appear just as they pass by a screen.

Sorry for the vagueness!

It has to be A COMPLETELY NEW SCENE! NO use of PREVIOUS IDEAS.

You CAN use DLR attractions, but i would prefer if you used WDW (that is if your using Jungle Cruise, so NO PIRANNAS (sp?) in WDW attraction) :)

Thanks for the clarification!

One more question - The due date in the first post says Friday the 21st. The 21st is actually Sunday. So is it Friday the 19th or Sunday the 21st? :)

Wait, I'm confused... StitchCastle's idea doesn't count? Are you kidding me!!!!??? It was absolutly amazing!!! lol

Anyway, so if we're doing GMR, we're not allowed to simply replace one of the movies with another? I don't understand lol.

Obviously, you have to keep the same themes, in order for the scene to work with the ride. It must be different from the old scene, but not different from the attraction. In the example of stitchcastle, the beginning part (with the screen) wouldn't be different, seeing as how the movie screen is the current finale of the ride. But the filmstrip montage fading into a projector would be considered original, even though it essentially carries the same mood.

The Great Movie Ride is considered by many to be the centerpiece of the Disney Hollywood Studios, though in recent years it has been overtaken by the Tower of Terror or even Toy Story Mania as a main draw in the park. A major overhaul is planned for this ride, to restore it to it's former glory, but unfortunately it will have to wait until after the Fantasyland Expansion.

In the meantime funding has been approved to fix the most glaring problem in the ride, the Busby Berkley scene in the opening. The original scene included rotation, water effects, and was much more impressive than the current state. Because of constant breakdowns and malfunctions, this "magic" was taken away are we are left with a fairly weak way to start the ride.

We need to give this ride the start it needs, and that doesn't mean adding tons of special effects, just placing things in the proper context, to that end...

The rides starts and you enter the first curve, as you turn the Ride Host starts talking about the history of movies.

"Movies have been entertaining folks for over a century now, and while those early silent films are beloved classics, our journey today starts with the film that brought sound and image together. I'm talking, of course, about Warner Brothers 1927 release, "The Jazz Singer." Al Jolson and this new technology ushered in a new era of entertainment and gave way to some of the most popular Musicals of all time."

During this speech we see a scene of Al Jolson singing "Toot Toot Tootsie" to the audience, he sings one verse, which loops back to the beginning. In the movie he starts the song with his famous, "You ain't heard nothing yet!" In the ride the audio would loop from the song into that quote, back into the song, so that guests hear, "You ain't heard nothing yet." As they pull away, to which the Cast Member would say, "No Al, indeed we haven't."

Video of the Song

The audio loop (Would have to be edited.) Scroll down, it's on the right.

The ride then returns to it's previous course, with a new context and direction, which will hopefully add some momentum to the story of the ride.

The Jungle Cruise: Lioness Attack

"Do you ever feel as if danger is lurking behind every log?" Our skipper asks us gesturing over to a large log wedged between two mangrove trees. "Well it is..."

Sure enough our skipper is right, the creeping body of a ferocious lioness sprawls out from behind that very same log, ready to pounce and attack our boat at any given moment.

"Now here's a lesson for all of you. Never play poker in the jungle with a big cat. He'll say he isn't a cheetah but he's just a lion."

The lioness gives an angry growl as our skipper rounds a corner in the river and begins to take us down a long stretch of swampy river flowing ahead of us.

More growling emits from all corners of the river, giving the sense as if we are being followed by some fierce pack of jungle cats. The truth is we are being followed by a pack of jungle cats, a whole pride of lions! We're being stalked as if we were some large zebra or water buffalo! To the right hand side of the river two lionesses creep in the bushes, one crouched low to the floor in hiding, the other poking its head through the bushes curiously. Over to the left side of the boat are a whopping three lionesses, two of them lurking far behind the bushes, the other very close to the river shore, its back legs arched and its front legs getting ready to leap. Our skipper instructs us to be quiet as we continue through these dangerous waters, suddenly the bushes begin to rustle over on the right. A huge lioness springs from the foliage, roaring with fury. Our disgruntled skipper takes out his revolver to scare it away, but a lioness whom has fallen in the water has attacked the other side of the boat by ramming into it, causing him to fire off a pointless shot.

They come from all sides now, running through the bushes and tall grass. The skipper fires off another couple of shots into the air with hopes of scaring them away, but alas nothing can stop them now, the bushes rustle as they roar and growl in attack. A massive lioness springs from the right side of the boat as we get closer and closer to Schweitzer Falls, only to cower back in fear before attacking. The poor creature doesn't know whether to attack us or not judging by the fact that an angry hive of bees hangs on a branch above her. The bees swarm around the hive in rapid circles, the lioness getting ready to swipe at us, only to look up at the hive and contemplate whether or not she should attack us. Across the way we are saved by yet another fluke of nature: A lioness screeching in pain turns her back to us as a nearby crocodile munches on her water-bound tail. A nearby couple of chimpanzees seem to laugh at her pain as another crocodile hungrily eyes them from the water. We then approach Scweitzer Falls and turn into a dangerous pool of hippopatami. This journey is probably the worst journey I've ever been on in say...five days...

As you probably have already assumed by now, my project is held in the Walt Disney World version of the Jungle Cruise. This brand new scene will replace the current scene held in between Schweitzer Falls and the Lost Safari: Crocodile Country. There's really nothing there now (Except two crocodile animatronics and a couple of tikis) so I figured why not make something out of it?

The scene will start off right after the Lost Safari is spied. Over in the bushes on the right side of the boat will be the first lioness animatronic. As you turn you will see more and more lioness animatronics hiding in the bushes, two of them taking over the old spot of Old Smiley and his girlfriend Ginger (Careful Ginger snaps, yes sir she's one tough cookie.), along with the small amount of African tiki totems nearby. When they are attacking your boat, save for the two that actually attack, a machine will run through the hidden areas of foliage, brushing up against them to make it seem as if you are being chased. Appropriate sound speakers will be placed in the appropriate areas of the jungle to make it seem as if you are being followed by these growling beasts. The bee hive keeping the lioness from attacking you will be similar to the bee hive effect from Splash Mountain; a bunch of yellow balls spinning around the perimiter of a bee hive and attached to a thing windmill-like device that spins around in circles at a rapid rate. The crocodile attacking the other lioness will actually be the old Ginger reused and restored to perfection, while the other crocodile watching the chimpanzee animatronics with hunger will be a now grunting Old Smiley.

So that's about it, I hope to see you all in the next project! :D

Introduction
I have chosen to replace the Tarzan scene from The Great Movie Ride. I feel that the ride could use some updating, as some of the movies represented, in particular Tarzan, whilst classics, are no longer relevant to a modern audience. For my replacement I have chosen to use a scene from The Lord of the Rings – The Fellowship of the Rings, The Bridge of Khazad-Dum

The Scene
The trams turn out of the Egypt scene into a dark cavern, in the distance to the right a miniature of a collapsed staircase . The main feature of the right side is the scene depicting Gandalf the Grey battling the Balrog of Morgoth. The Balrog would be a huge, towering above the Gandalf figure. It would be a state of the art AA, complete with smoke and fire effects. The Gandalf figure would be programmed to lift and “slam down” his staff.

The left hand side of the scene would depict the rocky outcrop on the other side of the bridge, where the other members of the Fellowship would be gathered, looking on in horror, the centrepiece figures in this scene would be Boromir dragging Frodo away. Other figures would be Legolas aiming his bow as well as Aragorn, Gimli, Sam and Merry & Pippin.

Details
As with every Disney attraction, it is small details that make up the experience. The music playing throughout the scene would be the Fellowship Theme . Sound effects of flying arrows would add to the atmosphere. The lighting would appear as red flickering flame, as well as actual flames from the Balrog AA.

As with every other scene in the ride, there would be narration from our tour guide, and speech taken from the film:

Tour Guide: "We now enter the realms of Middle Earth from The Lord of the Rings Trilogy. We join the action as The Fellowship of the Ring desperately tries to escape from the perilous Mines of Moria, but the dreaded Ballrog of Morgoth stands in their way!"

Gandalf: “YOU SHALL NOT PASS!”

The Balrog Roars

Frodo “GANDALF!!”

Tour Guide: “Whoa we better get out of here before things start to get out of hand”

Final Remarks

I am aware that this seems to be an obvious choice for a replacement scene, however I have had this scene in my mind for years, and feel that it would be a fantastic addition, wowing audiences and making this already classic attraction eve
