You’ve been waiting forever to get some sort of letter from Disney or something from Disney… will you be accepted?

You hear a ring. Ring – Ring. Ring – Ring. You pick up the phone…

“Congratulations, huh huh! You’ve been selected as a contestant to be the very next Imagineer! Oh boy, we’ve got so much stuff to do! We’ve better get goin’! See ya REAL soon!”

Oh. My. God. Was that just… him? The big cheese? Mi- What’s that? You hear a jingling of chimes… no, not chimes, more like… bells? You look around and don’t see a lot besides your stuff, the phone you’re still holding, and, well, that shimmering green pixie fluttering right by your nose- TINKERBELL! She flies around you and you feel… light. Like you’re underwater or something. Then you realize that your feet aren’t touching the ground… and you’re flying! Tink waves her wand and the window opens (this is crazy!) and you soar straight out!

You look down and you see the ground getting smaller under you, the houses and the trees and everything looks so beautiful; the land like an endless ocean of lights. You realize Tink’s gone away for a while… who cares? You’re flying!!! As you leave your home, The wind in your ears and the soft caress of the clouds gently carries you off to sleep…

What just happened… you were… dreaming of Tinkerbell… and…. You wake up. All around you are clouds as the sun beams down upon you. You see a light in the sky… Tink? No, it’s a red light… no, 2 red lights… ah! It’s a plane! This is NO WAY any dream! You see a giant wing (and a giant blade!) come at you and you narrowly avoid it. You begin falling… down, down, down… you see the clouds fall beneath you as you suddenly feel light again… looks like Tink’s back! And she brought some friends? No way! Those must be the other Imagineers! There sure are a lot of them… looks like 15... with you that’s 16. Suddenly everyone starts gasping. “Wow!” “Wouldja look at that…” “It’s so pretty!” What is…

It’s DISNEYLAND! You fly overhead and see Main Street, The Castle, everything! And then over DCA… come to think of it, that’s pretty too. Tink zooms over the Paridise Pier Bay and water jets shoot up into the sky, almost touching your feet! She flies back, waves her wand, and everybody zooms towards Tink, guiding the way down to the ground! “Where are we going?” you think to yourself…

The group (with you inside of it, of course) gently falls down into the sidewalk in front of a nondescript beige building. The weather is warm and the grounds are clean and green. You venture inside and encounter a long corridor filled with old ride paraphernalia… a model of the old Western River Expedition, storyboards, and even old animatronics sit all across the halls. You stop at a nondescript doorway that says nothing but “Room #101 – Briefing”. Everyone enters into the dark room.

There are 5 spotlights in the room… one on MaterA113, one on Disneyson 1, one on TrevorA, one on TheMadHatter, and one on Bamsk8er49. The spotlight on Mater grows brighter; he speaks:

MaterA113: Welcome to the Imagineer Game!

(General cheers and applause)

Mater: Did everyone get here okay?

(Cheers)

Mater: Alright! Now, as you may have guessed, we’re in Imagineering Headquarters in Glendale, California; an average looking building overflowing with magic inside! Of course, we’re all here to do one thing: become Imagineers.

(Cheers)

M: Now, before I get ahead of myself, I’d like to introduce you to our judges…

(Spotlight Two Lights)

M: Co-Creator of this season’s game and a good friend, TrevorA!

(Spotlight Three)
M: The creator of projects including Fantasia Gardens, and Spectromagic: The Re-Imagining (as well as the writer of this season’s story), Disneyson 1!

(Spotlight Four Lights)

M: An architect and although new to the site, definitely not new to Imagineering, TheMadHatter!

(Spotlight Five Lights)

M: Winner of last season’s Imagineer Game; Bamsk8er49.

(All except Spotlight One dim)

M: And, of course, there’s me, Mater A113, creator of the Imagineer Game.

(The loudest cheers)

M: Thank you. All of you have been selected to test out the farthest reaches of your imagination, create incredible amounts of detail, and to make creations that will be known the entire world over. Who better to explain your practice challenge than some of the most famous personalities in the entertainment industry today, two of the most beloved characters in the Disney library of endless characters: Donald and Goofy!!

(They walk out of a large door behind the Judges)

Donald & Goofy: Hello Imagineers!

(Crowd: Hi!)

Goofy: Hyuk! Uh, are your ready for your practice challenge?

(Crowd: YEAH!)

Goofy: Well, for starters, we’re gonna give you a whole RIDE to imagineer!

(Confetti shoots out of random confetti cannons around the room, the room turns many colors and a giant banner comes down from the ceiling proclaiming: “New Ride!!!” and a fanfare of trumpets play. Mater, looking uncomfortable, whispers something into Goofy’s ear…)

Donald: Oh boy…

Goofy: (Mater continues whispering in Goofy’s ear) Uhh, What’s that? Huh? Really?! WOW! Mm-hm… HEY, GUYS!

(Noise dies down)

Goofy: You’re, uh, hyuck, actually not makin’ a new ride… you’re creating somethin’ FOR a ride…? Uh, a gift shop! (Mater whispers) No, no… a ride ve-hic-le! No… (whispering) … Uhh…? I’m stumped.

Donald: What Goofy means is that you’re going to be able to create a small addition to a ride… any ride at all! And you can create just about anything you like for it, even-

(all are confused…)

Goofy: Donald, I’m not sure if anybody here’s understandin’ you. Ya do have a funny way of talking…

Donald: Why I aughta...!

Mater: Guys! Cool it! What they mean is that you have to create a very small enhancement to any ride of your choosing.

(Crowd: OH!)

Donald: Oh, NOW they understand…

Goofy: So are we gonna make new scenes? Bust out the kickline! ADD A NEW DIMENSION OF FUN-

Mater: Uh, by “small”, we mean just some sort of effect that would contribute to a ride… not a whole new ride… you know, that banner’s wrong-

Goofy: Whoops, Sorry! (He sees “New Ride” on the hanging banner and adds “not” and “Prop” onto the banner with a marker. It reads “‘New Not Ride!!!’ Prop”)

Mater: Anyway, your new prop can be a visual effect, some sort of animatronic or maybe a sight gag, whatever you want.

Donald: Kinda like that bird-on-a-stick over at Expedition : Everest!! Ooh! Or even one of those smells, like in Mickey’s Philharmagic! Ya know, that show should be called DONALD’S Philharma-

Goofy: Uh… what’d he say?

Mater: That’s enough guys, I think they get the idea.

CHALLENGE: Create a Hidden Gem in an Attraction.

Criteria:
- Choose either Splash Mountain, Test Track, Tower of Terror, and Dinosaur
- Similar to the Pirahanas in DL’s Jungle Cruise, or Madame Leota’s Tombstone in WDW’s Haunted Mansion queue
- Something that not all guests see, something that you have to be in the right place at the right time
- Goes with theme/story of the attraction

Due: Sunday February 14th, 2010 at Noon EST!

Mater: Is everybody ready? On your marks… Get set…

Goofy: GO!

Donald: I wanted to say that!

Goofy: Shucks, sorry!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
NOTE TO ALL! Everyone (both “waiting list” and “official” lists) must participate. We have figured out a way to have EVERYONE participate in this first challenge. This challenge will allow us to see WHO our “Top 16” of ALL the people are and the Top 16 will move on to Practice 2 (start Monday), which will allow us to even out our next move in this game. SO THERE ARE NO “waiting list” and “official” lists now, EVERYONE is a player. And those that don’t make it to our “top 16” will become the waiting list. We hope you all understand, and this way TrevorA and I thought it would be fairer. Have Fun!

Is it ok if I get mine in either later today, or tomorrow? My girlfriend is staying this weekend, so I'll be offline from Friday until Monday.

Also is there a set format to post the entries in? like a layout we need to use, and do we need to include drawings etc, because I do have an idea, but I'm not sure I'm a good enough artist to draw it properly. Can we have more than one addition, because I'm thinking of two or three very small additions?

Sorry for all the questions

This one there is no specific "needs" for the project (so you dont need picutres, etc.) BUT i will say, pictures and such are ALWAYS better as they help us judges visualize more.

And yes it is ok to post today. BUT if you wish to email it to me. PM me for my email address and i will post it closer to the due date.

Its ok for all the quesiton :)

EDIT: You need SOME DETAIL!!! And WHY its there (ie Story/theme)

Countdown to Extinction

Hi-ho, Kermit the frog here, Rex from Toy Story (a new animatronic) will make a cameo in the Triceratops scene of Countdown to Extinction. Rex will be in the attraction because he is a toy that depicts a dinosaur. A Hidden Mickey will appear on the Allosaurus as a skin pattern, as well. I will do this because there very few, if any Hidden Mickeys in the attraction. A third addition is a homage to WDW's other dino attraction, Universe of Energy. A volcano could be added in the background of one of the scenes. When it erupts, the lava forms the shape of the old UOE logo (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/8/8d/Epcot_Universe_of_Energy_Logo.png).

Splash Mountain

There will be a nice little vignette hidden within Splash Mountain in honor of black history month. Celebrating the historical significance of both "the Song of the South" and "The Princess and the Frog".

Prince Naveen and Princess Tiana, in Frog form will be hidden in the ride's musical finale scene, right beside the Zip A Dee Lady in a make shift raft recreating this little scene:

http://romancingthebook.files.wordpress.com/2009/12/2009_the_princess_and_the_frog_007.jpg

It will be a small addition that not all guests will know about or even see but more of a wink to the Disney fans of both movies.

^This is a good example of what you guys should be doing. Not too much, but just enough so we can see that you've put a good deal of thought into it.

Also, projects aren't due until Sunday, and I recommend that you take as much time as you can. After all, just like your teacher says, it's not a race!

Introduction

The aim of the excercise is to introdcuce an "Easter Egg" or hidden element into a well known ride at WDW. From the options given, I have chosen to add my touch to Dinosaur, as it seems the best place to add creative touches without detracting too much from current experience.

Additions

After some consideration, I decided that it would be fun to add a Homage to the classic film "Jurassic Park". I have done this in two ways:

Number One

As the ride nears it's climax, just after the "loss of traction" line on the sountrack, to the left of the vehicle would be a slichtly raised area, covered in dinosaur footprints, filled with water. As we pass, loud footsteps can be heard, and, just like the classic scene in Jurassic Park, the water will ripple. This can easily be achieved by timing small impluses to trigger under the footprints in time with the sounds.

Number Two

Towards the end of the ride, as the vehicles aproach the 3rd Cartanour attack, our guide, who is becoming increasingly twitchy, woulld nervously hum the opening bars to the famous Jurrassic Park Theme http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WWIdO9DidqU (The Dum Dum, Dun Daaah bit). While this may seem obvious, the ride is so fast paced at this point, this small addition can be considered to be hidden "in plain sight"

Conclusion

While these may seem to be "gimmicky", I believe that as such minor additions, they do not detract from the overall experience, and both serve to add more tension to the ride, building up to the shocks that the ride produces.

Sounds fun, I'll get right on it. I wouldn't consider the pirranah scene something nobody notices though. In my opinion it's pretty much JC's new "grand finale".

I will preface this by saying that I doubt Disney would put either of these in, as the first would be truly scary, and the second is slightly demonic, but I feel these additions would be awesome, and yes the gremlin would be terrifying.

I'm not sure if this contest should be hindered by what Disney would do, or would not do, or if we should give in and indulge ourselves by going with what WE would want. That being said, if staying in line with what the big D would like helps win, let me know, I can re-do this.

It seems that the doorway to the Twilight Zone has allowed for that pesky gremlin from Nightmare at 20,000 Feet to escape and take up residence in the elevator shaft. Guests who look up through the grate ceiling might spot this mischievous creature grinning back as the doors open.

Also, a new fortune telling machine has been installed in the cue. The Mystic Seer will answer questions for you, for 25 cents a pop, seems not even the Twilight Zone is immune to inflation.

^Fractal, we're looking for the best ideas that you can produce, and we don't want you to give any thought to whether or not your projects would be practical. It's about what you can do, not what you should.

Your first link is faulty, luckily I knew who you were talking about :)

Tower Of Terror

It's been a year since you have been on Tower Of Terror, and things a looking a little creepy tonight and you notice some things new:
1. As you walk up to the ride at exactly 8:00 and you look up at the door where the people drop http://photoalbums.wdwmagic.com/showphoto.php?photo=38656&cat=4077 and you see the original people that dropped in the beginning http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2150/2241347833_680974aab1.jpg
2. Then as you walk into the lobby you hear a clap of thunder thinking its nothing and just move on.
3. As you get off of the ride you see where they took your picture and notice that you hear noises (there are hidden speakers) of the people who dropped in the beginning saying "HELP" "Where are we?" etc.

Ride: Tower of Terror

Hidden Gem: Maitre d’ stand with a simple desk light, reservation list and a ‘working’ telephone that connects directly to… the Twilight Zone.

Placement: The stand would be placed outside of the Sunset Room, to the left of the main door. The plants that are currently in place would be removed. (Current Pic)

Story: If a guest picked up the phone most times there wouldn’t be anything on the other end. No dial tone, no other noise. However, there would be two regular effects with the phone that would happen every so often.

1. As an homage to the Twilight Zone episode “Night Call”, the phone will occasionally ring. When it is picked up the guest will hear one of two things.
a. Static, as was heard in the episode. The static noise can be heard at about 1:25 here.
b. Odd noises, moaning, “Hello?”, also from the episode and heard at about 0:24 here.

2. On very rare occasions, the phone will ring and there will be a voice on the other end:

[Rod Sterling voice] As you exit the elevator you walk through the hotel and notice your thoughts have begun to return to normalcy when a phone rings. You find yourself standing at an abandoned Maitre d’ stand in front of a swank hotel restaurant. The gateway to this eatery of the stars is now chained (cue rattling of the actual chains on the Sunset Room door, seen here). Who could be calling and how did they know you would answer? By picking up the phone you may have just made your own reservations… in the Twilight Zone (cue music, followed by dial tone).

Guest than hangs up phone, which promptly rings again.

Voice [Disney Cast Member]: Bedeker?
Guest: Hello?
Voice: Who is this? Where is Bedeker?
Guest: This is _____ (says name)
Voice: Oh yes, you were the ___ who passed through the lobby earlier. I’m Mr. Cadwallader, I was there playing Mah Jong with Mr. Cooper. I wanted to talk to Bedeker and change my reservation. What time does he have us down for, 6?
[Guest looks down at the reservation list on the stand as the light turns on at the desk. Looking for his name the list, which is actually a screen, quickly changes to a ghostly vision of Cadwallader, who creepily asks them to join them for dinner]
Guest: Responds how they’d like. If they say no, Cadwallader tells them they’ll regret it and lets them go. If yes:
Cadwallader: I’ll send _____ [A different Cast Member on site] to get you. Why don’t you take the elevator up to the Tip-Top Club and join us for a pre-dinner drink?

Cast member comes over and identifies the guest by the name they gave Cadwallader and gives them Fast Passes to ride again.

Phone rings one last time.

[Rod Sterling Voice] Be careful what you wish for as things may not always be what they seem. Did you just accept an invitation to one of the best restaurants in Hollywood or did you just make a reservation to…the Twilight Zone?

This effect would be similar to the Laugh Floor or Crush where the guest is interacting with a CM behind the scenes.

Other notes: The phone would look very similar to the one in the videos above. Cadwallader is another character from the Twilight Zone, appearing in “Escape Clause”. Cadwallader turns out to be the devil. Bedeker is also in “Escape Clause” and Cooper is the last name of the main characters in “Night Call”. The names on the reservation list would include the writers and producers of the Twilight Zone. While all guests can see this area, most will never hear the phone ring and those that know about it will look forward to the day it finally does.

Hopefully that's not too much detail. I thought a little storyline would be helpful rather than just saying "Answer phone...free fastpass".

Credit to the owners of the photos and videos above. I'm posting this now as I'll be gone this weekend, but also have some original artwork I'm going to try and scan before the deadline, so long as it's okay to update once I've submitted?

Test Track

1. As your vehicle travels through the cold room, mini-audioanamatronics of the long gone Bird and Robot Show will be seen on the shelf.
wom-bird-robot.jpg

2. The old World of Motion logo will be shown on a small sign during the outdoor portion of the ride.

Hidden Gem

Sorry I'm a little late, I have a lot of crud going on right now.

The attraction I have chosen to give a hidden gem is the world famous Jungle Cruise at the original Disneyland in California.

I have chosen the Jungle Cruise for my practice project, simply because it is a classic attraction (Which is almost 55 years old!) and at one point was the most popular attraction in all of the park. It is also one of my own personal favorites so I have kind of a connection to it with memories and whatnot. It's not everyday a four year old gets to leave the world he lives in behind to explore the mysterious depths of some far-off jungle.

Anyways, what is this gem you may ask yourself? Well first of all the Jungle Cruise will get an entire makeover, but since this project isn't about a massive refurbishment but a new little detail like Leota's Tombstone at the Haunted Mansion, I won't go into any details on the refurbishment...unless a project like that comes around at one point...:animwink:

So my new gem is actually rather odd. It's a rusted old gas lantern which will sit in a blocked off area of the queue. It will have the words, Sir Reginald Trading Co. engraved upon the front and barely catch the attention of passing guests at all. At night it will glow (Much like the lanterns in the queue for Indiana Jones) and create a small amount of warmth and light for the inner sanctums of the boathouse queue. So at first glance this hidden gem may seem rather pointless, no story behind it all. Well that's where you're wrong, it actually does have a story.

This same exact lantern (Actually just an exact replica or a twin to the lantern) will be placed in the attic of the Haunted Mansion. Where will it be placed you readers at home may be asking? Well that's easy, right in front of the wedding portrait belonging to Reginald and Constance. The lantern will be just as rusted as its Jungle Cruise companion and will glow constantly throughout the park's operating day, due to the fact the Haunted Mansion is always looming in the darkness of night.

Reginald who is one of Constance's unlucky husbands has always been known as a big game hunter or traveler of some sort as a revolving globe and a tiger skin rug appear in the area around his portrait. Now this idea will be determined with this one simple change. Reginald will finally be connected to the wilds of Adventureland, determining his occupation to be the manager of some far away jungle trading company whom fit in some big game hunting in the rainforest every now and then. Although many guests won't catch onto it, this fun detail will be great fun for the Imagineers who created it and hardcore Disney fans such as ourselves.

A crate will also be added in the attic for the lantern to sit on, entitled: Sir Reginald Trading Co. A dust covered painting of a Jungle Cruise boat cruising along the waters of some tropical jungle can be seen on the side of the box.

I know this practice project only requires ONE hidden gem, but I just couldn't resist myself. My imagination as been held back in solitary confinement for a very long time now.

The other hidden gem will be connected to the one this project mainly revovles around.

The wedding portrait of Reginald and Constance will be crammed in the corner of the current Jungle Cruise manager's office on the second floor. It will be a replica of the original (Minus the whole head-chopping thing) and will be so crammed back in the corner of the room that many won't even notice it if they look around for it. It won't be too hidden from sight though, just like all the wonderful hidden Mickeys scattered throughout the parks. Here is a portrait of Reginald and Constance in case you haven't seen it before:

http://farm1.static.flickr.com/200/447599620_ab30359963.jpg

Well that was my practice project and I hope you enjoyed it!

I hope to see you all there at the end! :D

Sounds good Man, but I'm pretty sure we were limited to Tower of Terror, Test Track, Splash Mountain, or Dinosaur.

I could be wrong though...
