My Dinner With Andre...It's two guys having dinner and talking for two hours...That's it! But my god the conversation they have is one of the most mind blowing pieces of writing I've ever experienced, penned by the great Wallace Shawn who also stars alongside theater director and all around eccentric Andre Gregory. @Sam4D23 can vouch for it.
Wait, what? :eek:Oh gosh I need to see this.

This is why you're a weasly haha:hilarious: and one time one of my teachers who didn't like me(You don't do notes her way one time, and she hates you the rest of the year..) was going to disney world the same time I was for spring break, so when she asked everyone what they were doing for that I told her with a huge smile that I was going to disney too and her face was like o_O it was great:hilarious:
So she's basically Mrs. Haffer?:p

It's a tie between Gravity and The Dark Knight Rises

Only good things about those movies are the soundtracks...the stories are meh for me.

Oh man, BlueDragonFive and I have a LONG history with Dark Knight Rises. I give him hell for liking it every time I can :p Eventually we need to do the long talked about debate. I honestly think Batman v. Superman is a way more watchable movie than TDKR...and that's saying something.

The whole structure of the film is basically the entire first half is Andre talking and Wally listening, then the movie slowly develops as Wally finds his voice. It was very intentionally written that Wally slowly but surely makes his way into the conversation.
Ok just finished

I don't even know how to call that a movie. I'm gonna have to watch it again to pick everything up, but suffice to say I approve:D

It felt very meta...I think a lot of the philosophy aspects can be tied to a lot of things, and it makes sense too. I can see both sides of the coin from Wally and Andre's perspective...it's conformed vs open, grounded vs spiritual.

The theater stuff can definitely be relevant to movies today where people don't want to see the world for what is (I think that's why people don't like BvS because it's dark and reminds them of the real world) compared to things that are fantastical and mystical that show people new things.

Also the electric blanket analogy --- I think i fall into Wally's camp there....

Anyway this can all be said in the podcast:cool:

You should look up the series of interviews Wallace and Andre gave with Noah Baumbauch for the Criterion Collection release. It definitely illuminates the process of writing the film. Very fascinating in that Wallace Shawn essentially wrote the script so that the ideologies of the two characters could be applied to both of the actors in different aspects of their life.

And yea, the electric blanket thing is probably the most well known scene in the film.

The interviews are cut up into different parts on Youtube but it's well worth seeking them all out. It's about an hour in total.

Also, this...

Also whenever I watch it I pay special attention to the actor playing the waiter. It's a French man who had never acted before but he has a BIG presence looming over the film if you pay attention to his mannerisms. There's several points where you can see him conversing with the bartender in the background and I always think they're joking to themselves about how pretentious the conversation Wally and Andre are having is :p
