Has anyone seen it? I keep hearing conflicting stories on how good it is. Some people say it is the lamest movie they've ever seen and other are telling me they were scared to death. I can't decide whether I should see it this weekend so can someone tell me if it's good or not. Thanks! :)

Possible SPOILERS...depending on how much you do or don't want to know.

I saw it last night. Basically, it's the same kind of horror as The Ring, but as far as movies goes, Ring was better. It was still a decent movie with some creepy and scary moments though.

ummm i was scared... (i'm a wimp when it comes to scary movies) i spent over half of the movie leeched on to my housemates arm. some parts were funny (well they probably shouldn't have been but i was laughing) if you want to be scared or at least want to see a movie that plays with your mind see "saw"

There's no way in He!! that I would see Saw! I would end up sleeping on my brother's floor because I freak out over "realistic" scary movies!

I like how it was made, but I expected more out of it. The audience was SCREAMING at times. It takes a little more for me than that though. It was worth going to see it in the theatre. Not a waste, but not everything I'd hoped it would be.

Spoiler: seeing the little boy and the woman more than say, twice, made it too easy to watch them. I wasn't scared to see them anymore after the first couple of encounters. I don't flinch or jump easily (es the b/f off 'cause he can't jump out and scare me) but I did about once in this movie.

4 out of 5 stars for me

that's rather interesting...have you seen The Ring? if yes, were you as creeped out by the girl at the end as most other people? cause i understand what you're saying about things losing their scare factor after seeing it a few times, and i agree. but in The Ring, the girl is shown several times, yet anytime i even just think about her in that ending, i just want to curl up in a fetal position in a corner somewhere. so i wonder what makes her keep her scare factor even after seeing her several times during the movie. same thing with the film...that's one creepy film!
geez, i gotta quit thinking about this stuff...i'll never get to sleep tonight!

Actually they were discussing that last night on Bravo's 100 Scariest Moments of all Time. We see the girl throughout the film, however at the end she breaks the third wall. She does what none of us really expect or want to believe, but she still does it. That action of doing something what we have never seen before (which is a hidden terror of everybody), creeps into your sub-concious and haunts your nightmares.

When I first saw The Ring...it was on HBO and I watched it in my own house...
for about 2 weeks after, I had to sleep with the light on because i was afraid the little girl was going to come out and get me.

people think im crazy but i actually slept with the tv on for weeks on mute. it made me feel better to keep it where i could see it LOL
i cant handle scary movies very well and im not sure i'll see the grudge

Don't feel too bad. When ever a see something approaching the camera while I'm watching TV now, I get freaked out. When that happens, you know you have an awesome movie. (The Ring was #18 in the special)

Yes, I saw the Ring and I was more creeped out by that movie than The Grudge, possibly because the storyline was a little more sinister than The Grudge. I don't remember seeing the girl up close as much, maybe I'm having selective memory :/ I think I expected way too much out of The Grudge. It was "good enough". I did the same thing with The Blair Witch Project. That was an absolute bomb for me. I wanted to walk out.

Yeah, I saw that on Bravo. I was sort of getting creeped out all over again when the people were just talking about the scene with the well...and then they started showing that scene. I swear, I went into a frenzy trying to change the channel before I got any glimpse of that video.
You bring up some great points, Legacy, and I think you're dead on with them. So...was that the first movie in history where someone breaks the 'third wall' or has it been done before? (I rarely watch scary movies). If The Ring was the first, I'm kind of surprised no one's ever done it before. Regardless, it was a brilliant piece of horror...I mean, I can't imagine not being freaked out by that scene, no matter how many times I see it (which, so far, has only been once).

BTW, Alicia, it took me a good while to get used to being around tv's while they were off. I'd always have to turn them on while I was in the room because I would get so scared. I don't think I've ever been affected by a movie in that way before. It's crazy how much power that one scene has.

cru5h, I think you're right. I don't remember seeing the girl up close too much either. But I know just from the previews of The Grudge that you get at least one good closeup of the boy. From what little I've seen of the boy, he just doesn't seem to have the same sinister creepiness that the girl from The Ring had.

So...who's up for The Ring sequel? :) I've heard the girl won't be coming back for the sequel, though, which is kind of a bummer...i guess.

March 18th, The Ring sequel debuts. Original cast with others, including Sissy Spacek, and of course they are using Samara again (or as others know her as the voice of Lilo.).

The first trailer was up on my AOL Welcome Screen yesterday. Very frightening, I cannot wait!
