The Grindhouse

ACTION!

SUSPENSE!

HORROR!

THRILLS!

ONLY AT...THE GRINDHOUSE!

So, I know it was only opening weekend...but what did everybody think?

I personally thought the offering that Tarantino brought to the Double-feature was just god-awful.

Granted, Stuntman Mike was a great character...but the only time the movie had any "oomph" to it was when he was on the screen (which wasn't often).

So, I would give Deathproof 1 out of 5 stars.

But I would give Planet Terror 4 out of 5! No, it wasn't anything groundbreaking...but it definitely paid homage to what the movie was all about. Cheesy double-features which mostly consisted of zombies, hack-n-slash, and bad lines.

I applaud Rodriguez...but I kinda have to raise an eyebrow to Tarantino and say, "What?"

That being said...as an overall experience I loved it...the fake trailers at the beginning, the ads between movies, and Planet Terror were all great. (I may have liked Tarantino's a little more if it was the first movie shown...but the fast paced Planet Terror got you pumped...and then Deathproof just wanted to make you want to get up and leave the theater (which I saw a lot of people do).

I'm just suprised how much this flick bombed at the box office (I guess a three hour runtime didn't help matters much). I thought Tarrantino's name alone would fill the seats. But, it got beat by an Ice Cube family comedy? Ouch!

Just goes to show you, people love to watch crap. They just don't want to be told they are watching crap (i.e. the outright, campy exploitation presentation of the grindhouse movies).

I'm a bit intrigued by this movie. I haven't seen it yet, but as a connoisseur of bad movies (big fan of Mystery Science Theater 3000), I think I'll see it when it comes to my neighborhood theater (give it a month).

Loved it.
I somewhat agree about QT's film...lotta talk before the action, and that was with at least 7-8min cut from the script I read a month or so ago.
My wife leaned over about 15min in and said "Is anything going to happen in this movie or are they just going to talk forever?" I told her to wait, the payoff would be worth it. It kinda was......

Planet Terror....rocked.

Now....I wanna see Werewolf Women of the SS!:sohappy:

I've been DIEING to see this, but it was Easter weekend, and I was busy. I love Quentin Tarentino's films. I liked Sin City from Robert Rodriguez, but his Spy Kid movies and Shark Boy and Lava Girl were gawd awful. But Sin City makes up for it though. He should stick to movies like this.

But this movie looks SO good. I wanna see it NOW!

And....THANKSGIVING! :lookaroun :sohappy: (Makes me want to avoid a trampoline)

I actually want to see Machete!
Thanksgiving and Machete MUST be made. (Machete is actually supposed to go DTV)

Anyways....

Planet Teror = kicked @$$
Death Proof = first half kicked @$$, second half :snore: until the car chase began

Trailer rankings:

1. Thanksgiving
2. Machete
3. Don\\\'t
4. Werewolf Women of the SS (though Nic Cage was awesome)

I also liked the fake advertisements (Acuña Boys Restaurant  ), the cartoons for the ratings, and the our feature presentation bits.

There were a few little easter eggs that I found (how fitting).

In Planet Terror...on the radio...the "newsflash" came on and said, "This just in...popular radio host Jungle Julia has died" (paraphrasing)...

and in Deathproof...one of the girls was drinking from a cup from Acuna Boys.

Alright, I just looked at the Box Office standings. Ouch. I think it just flat out came out at the wrong time. Easter weekend is really not the time for a violent R rated movie to come out. Mainly because people are too busy, and family movies are more popular around this time. Well, maybe it will recover in the following weeks.

Carlos Gallardo (the original El Mariachi) as Deputy Carlos
Etc......good stuff.

The trailer for Halloween was AWESOME!!! I was never a huge Michael Myers/Halloween fan...but it looks like Zombie did it right!

(That's one that I need to find someone to go with because the girl just ain't gonna be convinced that THAT isn't a horror movie)
