Lots of good replies so far. So many good shows; tough to pick a few.

In random order:
Barney Miller, Night Court, the Honeymooners, The Sopranos, WKRP in Cincinnati, Mary Tyler Moore Show, Andy of Mayberry, Leave it to Beaver.

The Andy Griffith Show hands down. Never even heard of The Wire.
Come on...Andy, Opie, Barney, Aunt Bea, Earnest T. Bass, Gomer, Otis, Floyd and many more memorable characters.

Whilst I've heard it referenced on other shows, I don't think it's ever made it to our glorious shores in the UK. Having seen your clip, I don't think that's such a bad thing however

It is all about opinions though. For instance my wife swears by the British comedy 'George & Mildred', I on the other hand just swear when it comes on :banghead:

Only British comedy I'm familiar with other than Month Python is Fawlty Towers. Many years ago a local public channel used to show Fawlty Towers and it cracked me up. Must not have been many episodes though, as I remember they kept showing the same few episodes over and over.

No you're right, there were only 12 episodes ever made of Fawlty Towers. Interestingly John Cleese who played 'Basil' actually stayed in a hotel in real life and saw a manager behaving rudely to guests and based the character on him :)
