The Great Movie Ride

Well, that sucks. The alien coming out of the vents usually works just fine. It's the one that attacks on the side of the car that has been sort of broken for a long time. It's supposed to be more concealed in the wall before it comes to life, but it's usually just sitting there in plain sight until the smoke and movement.

The Great Movie Ride will continue to be one of my favorite attractions at WDW. To me, it's timeless!

TGMR and DHS in general sparked my interest in classic films at a young age. I would hate to see it go, but I wouldn't mind if it got refreshed a bit. The effects and the animatronics still stand up, it's just the tour guides who are a hit or miss...

When there's a good guide, TGMR is almost perfect, but when there's a stale guide, it's kinda dull... But like I said before, the AA's and the sets make the attraction beautiful and timeless!

GMA is under-rated. Every time someone posts a thread saying how it needs more new movies, I feel ill.

Part of the problem with today's Guest is that they just don't get it. The movies there are timeless and classic. That is what the attraction is about. If we wanted to see modern movies we can just turn on the TV. These are things that built Hollywood. Like CoP, it is a better, more cohesive attraction as is. There is no need to update because the very essence of the attraction is "OLD" Hollywood. You know, it's the Hollywood that never was and always will be!

I don't think it needs NEW movies, just more tech in the scenes that are there. For example, the first scene representing classic musical movies with the women in a pyramid, we have the technology, now, for that scene to be a bit more. The pyramid could rotate with some of the women actually kicking a leg. The gangster scene could have the car actual out of sight before coming in with more fluid movements with the shooters. Maybe some random small sparks to show the bullets missing. The western scene has the fire but none of the characters actually move. The alien scene has two aliens that alternate on being broken and Sigourney needs love. Her skin is very aged, her eyes do not move, her body doesn't move. Just her head. With Tarzan, besides the fact that his body looks very aged, you can actually see him turning to go in the opposite direction. Honestly, only have him go back and forth once. Doing it over and over makes it look very fake. The only scene that is really impressive is TWoOz.

When we were there this past weekend, neither moved. We were in the very back so we were able to watch them for awhile. The one in the wall was just still. The one in the ceiling never popped out

I whole heartedly agree with what you are saying. I feel that they really should make it work the way it was intended and even "plus" it if possible. Since there are so few attractions currently in DHS, they would need to shut it down for a time to make that happen. It is almost surprising that the beginning of the ride is interesting but not spectacular when the last scene (Oz) is great.

What they really need to do is shut the entire park down, somewhat like they did with DCA and redo, fix up and reopen when complete. That probably won't happen, but it should.

I like this ride but I do agree a nice little refurb would be nice when we go through the alien scene ( I've never seen the movie) but the female actress with the gun her face looks terrible

It's the hair. Weaver's hair never looked like that.
Also, I've seen the movie quite a few times and I don't remember the time she stopped running from the Alien to have her boiler suit nicely starched and pressed, then zipped it up all the way.
They really ought to rework the figure into a more dynamic pose so that she's leaning into the wall behind her and peaking around the corner.
It would also be awesome (but maybe impossible for safety reasons) if her flamethrower could have its pilot light always lit.

Great screenshots for comparison. I always felt that she wasn't posed in a very natural manner. More could be done with her. She could be leaning into the wall and, then, step away from the wall to look around the corner. Maybe even wave her gun. Her hair is too flat ironed lol.

It's one of my very favorite all-time rides (top 3, easily) but I do think a good 1/3 to 1/2 of it could get gutted and redone.

They need to leave - Mary Poppins, Singin' In The Rain, Casablanca, Indy (but spruce it up a bit/change it up), Wild West (first half, ditch the shoot out for something else), Gangster scene (but spruce it up - add a few more, like Al Pacino, etc. - they don't all have to be from the same time period - but great gangsters of all time on film), and Aliens (again, spruce it up), and don't touch one hair on the chinny chin chin of Oz - unless it's to extend/expand it.

The horror hall, much as I like horror, is a big waste of space IMO, too generic, the Tarzan scene is just laughable at this point, another large space hog, and a few other things could be trimmed/eliminated. And for God sakes, since it's never worked right since almost the beginning, take down the ladies on the cake at the beginning, LOL.

I have major affection for the ride, but it definitely could use some sprucing up.

Yes
I like GMR but the Fantasmic Scene is def a waste of space.

Tarzan too. Just a whole bunch of stuff piled into a room...

I'd LOVE to see this...

Obviously things could be centered but you get the idea.

........."is one of my favorite genres". I find it ironic that every CM who works that attraction loves horror so much? You mean to tell me that not one of them likes westerns? Sarcasm in case you missed it.

I wonder if the ride would be improved dramatically by permitting the hosts to improvise their spiels, jungle cruise-style.

As a continuation of my first post, let me continue by saying that they should DEFINITELY fix the Footlight Parade scene!

Here's a video of its majesty:

I think this scene perfectly set the tone for the GMR. It was just spectacular! Now it's very dull and unexciting.

I didn't even know it rotated

Do you think TGMR could be yelling for attention? I don't think Disney will shut it down, but, the last few times I went, attendance seemed really low. We all know that attractions with low volume get attention, sometimes in the wrong way. I don't know when the last overhaul was done, but, I was thinking, with today's technology, many of those scenes could be much more impressive, esp the Alien scene. I think, with some good love (and big bucks), that ride could be spiced and and pull in more crowds. Not necessarily change the movies but definitely update it.
I honestly depends on when you go.
We seen the GMR walk on at 1 pm and we've seen it with a 40 minute wait at 1pm.
I would hate to see it go but I would love to see updated animatronics or see the scenes enhanced/plussed.
My favorite thing about GMR is looking for the hidden r2d2 & c3po.

There were lines outside the building last February and we had to come back another time. And yet, another day we practically walked right on. Love the ride as it is.
