The Gaming Industry: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

BF 2 looks great and can't wait for the single player experience, sadly the only way the game will have legs is if multiplayer is top notch, which was a serious issue with the original, It was pay to win and on the PC, the ONLY way to play games, there was rampant cheating. Not fun getting picked off with a head shot from across the map.

Loot boxes get a bad rap, as long as they are not pay to win or give you an advantage. Blizzard does it right with loot boxes on Overwatch and Heroes of the Storm. They only offer cosmetic pieces and experience bonuses, nothing that give one player a distinct advantage.

Speaking of Overwatch, its still the best game on the planet nothing is in its league of legend.

2017 game of the year? Easy its Cuphead. I don't see anything besting it, not even Mario.

BlizzCon 2017 coming next month with new World of Warcraft expansion detail, I'll be nerding out in Aneheim with my fellow Blizz fanboi-gurls!

About darn time.

I think I am going to stop playing video games for the rest of the year. Many are fun, but I don’t know — it seems like many of the releases I was excited for are made/produced by companies that live on greed. And than on the other hand, indie games on Steam for instance, stay in an endless Alpha/Beta. Epic titles like Portal, Minecraft, GTAV, and even Planet Coaster have thrown themselves at the world, but there’s only so many hours you can put into games.
Then you have BFII which looks out of this world, and they ruin it. I’m just disappointed to say the least. I’m optimistically waiting for good titles next year, until then might as well try putting my time into something better.

I've found myself getting away from console gaming and more on computer gaming lately. There's just so many cool indie games out there to try out and not deal with microtransactions constantly.

Definitely. I have never been a fan of console (except for ya know, Wii Sports:p). I really have loved Steam. It’s great for the user and the developer. I really love indie games that continue to develop the game, and actually have a plan to get out of Alpha, like The Forest. On the other hand, there are too few fully released games that are continuously updated. Maybe I haven’t seen enough games, but I am overall just disappointed with the whole climate right now, so I’m just going to take a long break.

The biggest "exclusives" on other platforms that I want on Switch both came out this year: Crash and Cuphead. At least with Crash it seems like it won't be a full exclusive and only timed otherwise it would've had the typical "Only on PlayStation" on the box art.

DOOM is a game I was happily able to cross off of this list of games I can't play on Nintendo

Btw, who here has played Wolfenstein: The New Order? Would I need to play that before Wolfenstein II? Strange how Bethesda's only bringing the sequel.

Since you guys play on PC and can get any third party games you could want on there you could always come over to Nintendo for your console fix ;)

They're the only ones offering something really different from your existing platform of choice unless you like Sony's exclusives. Plus they're getting a ton of indies too.

I'm dreading that switch may not get a smash bros game, it's my favorite fighting game franchise and nintendo not mentioning it at all has me a bit worried.
The switch is seven months old give it time. You can't announce all of your major sellers at once, now can you? ;)
In the meantime you could pick up Brawlout, which comes out this year. I think it's supposed to be similar, and from what I've seen it looks like a lot of fun.

On the flipside of that coin I fall into the same issue of Smash, but with Animal Crossing. I've been dying to hear about any sliver of info, but nothing. So for now I'll just play the waiting game.

At the moment I'm playing Arms, Splatoon 2, and Animal Crossing: New Leaf. Waiting for Christmas gifts because I'm receiving Breath of the Wild DLC, Rabbids + Mario and its DLC, and the Switch Version of Stardew Valley.

Isn't everyone? Lol.
I'm going to be honest here, I don't get the hype
But I'm sure it's gonna be a great game, and maybe down the line when its a bit cheaper I might try it. Until then have fun with Mario Odyssey :D

The Switch is the saving grace right now for gaming IMO. It rocks. I have friends (and a cousin) that have it and it is a joy. From Splatoon to Zelda.

I think I might just switch back a bit to console (that being the Switch only:D).
I stopped playing mobile games over the Summer, just didn’t want to put up with the pay to win of so many games. Feeling like PC is becoming the same way kind of sucks a bit. Ofc, it’s not most games, it’s just that there is a shift and it is frustrating to me.

My favorite games are story based multiplayer games. I love talking and socializing while playing a great game, so The Subspace Emmisary was so much fun for SSBB on the Wii. What will get me to buy the Switch is if SSB has fantastic reviews. In the meantime, I am going to quit pc for a bit. Give it some time, and when I do come back to it, I am going to pretty much only play with friends.

Just beat the final boss of Mario + Rabbids today but I'm still not done with it. I'm finishing all of the challenges and some of them really get you thinking. Really good game that you'll enjoy. I'm waiting on the DLC until we have more details just like I did for BotW. I need to finish Metroid: Samus Returns before Mario drops too. So happy Metroid is back :D

And a scholar, my grades ain't too shabby either ;)
And extrovert, one of the few juniors to make an effort to get to know the entire student body at my new school of 110 students (Juniors + Seniors)
And practically perfect in every way :p JK only Mary Poppins is practically perfect in every way.

You won't regret getting a switch until you realize you've spent enough to buy 2 more switches. Mostly me making sure to have enough local multiplayer games and controllers.

One mobile game I stopped playing was Disney's Magic Kingdoms started off innocently enough, but then by December I was done with it.

I'm finishing all of the challenges and some of them really get you thinking. Really good game that you'll enjoy.
I hope so I've been dieing to play a new Mario strategy game besides the first 2 paper Marios.

Is Samus Returns any good? Been on the fence of buying it.

Good thing I'm an introvert and have only bought a carrying case and Joy-Con Charging Grip as my accessories :D

I still wonder why that second one doesn't just come with the console. For some stupid reason they don't charge right by just attaching to the Switch while docked.

Speaking technically Mario + Rabbids is the first ever strategy game in the series. Paper Mario was a turned based classic RPG. I'm hoping to finally play Thousand Year Door when Virtual Console comes to the Switch.

I've only gotten about 3 hours into Metroid before I put it down to focus back on finishing M+R but what I've played so far I enjoyed a lot.

More sad news regarding once great BioWare. Creative director Mike Laidlaw leaves BioWare mid development of Dragon Age 4...

https://www.engadget.com/2017/10/13/dragon-age-director-mike-laidlaw-leaves-bioware-after-14-years/

The dramatic fall of BioWare continues...

For those who do not know, BioWare was behind some of the best and most influential RPG's ever made in recent times, titles like Dragon Age Origins, Jade Empire, Mass Effect trilogy, the legendary Knights of the Old Republic and Baldur's Gate series.

Ever since getting bought out by EA and dropping over $250 million to develop Star Wars The Old Republic BioWare has been a shell of itself.

Not that I would ever buy DA4 after D2 and 3, still sad to see how far a great studio has fallen.

An interesting thread I found on another site.
http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=232200

I have to say I agree at least when it comes to the huge hyped up AAA western releases. The big games seem to get a pretty passive response year after year. The 8th generation really is a bit disappointing. Probably why Nintendo rushed into their 9th gen offering.

How would you guys answer his question?
