The Gaming Industry: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

Releasing a portable version on Switch should really be obvious at this point. Even their investors asked about it.

GTA Online is what is keeping that game alive. People at this point don't care about the single player experience. Between first party dlc and third party mods it's a thriving community.

A port to the switch without GTA online won't be as attractive as it currently is.

Online would be when you’re near wi-fi, just like all the other platforms it’s on. You really think it wouldn’t sell? If multiplayer is that important they could add local multiplayer for when you’re on the go.

Sure they could add local multiplayer. Would require them to do some new coding to have a host server run off of a switch. I didn't say it wouldn't sell I'm just stating why GTAV is still selling great since it released. It's more of if they include GTA Online with the switch version, and don't water it down then it should sell like hot cakes and keep a community.

It’s their bread and butter money maker. No way they release a Switch version without Online.

Who here is playing Monster Hunter World? It’s quickly becoming the best selling game in the series breaking all of my expectations.

There was just something about the E3 showing last year that felt really cheesy with Monster Hunter World. I'll have to start binging some youtube videos to see if I still have that same feeling. Supposed to be a PC release later this year so I might pick it up then.

No way I'm playing a console version, even the PS4Pro and Xbone X can barely hold 40fps. I'll wait for a PC release to get at least 60 fps. Its reasons like this why PC gamers look down on consoles.

Blizzard-Activision earnings call came and I was shocked how huge Call of Duty is, I never would have thought its the number one franchise in the world.

One thing that stood out to me was this blurb:

  • Blizzard delivered record segment revenues and operating income for a year with no major game release, as they continued to deliver continuous content across franchises including Overwatch, Hearthstone, and World of Warcraft®.
Record setting segment revenue with no major releases.

Record setting segment revenue with no major releases.

This is why Blizzard fanbois/gurls laugh at other publishers, if you make a quality title people will come, people will play and people will support it. No company makes games of such high quality as Blizzard, their track record speaks for itself.

Time to spend some of my cash on Overwatch lootboxes, they obviously know what they are doing with my revenue, plus I want the new Mercy and Widowmaker skins, lol.

Well, Valve use to. Now they are content with making card games and collecting a few billion a year from Steam.

And it’s reasons like this that people view PC gamers as snobbish. I played what is easily the “worst” version of DOOM and still had a hell of a time with it. Not everyone needs the highest specs just to have fun.

I think you need to calm down a bit. Im not taking anything away from them but there are plenty of highly successful games out there not made by Blizzard.

I mean it was pretty nice being at the top until the 3D nand shortage and the crypt-o-currency boom. =P

Exactly. You can't argue the success of Wow, Diablo, starcraft or overwatch but its only 4 games. I'm not sure what people really see in Blizzard. I like Diablo but it wouldnt be in my top 20 RPGs. Overwatch is OK, but I get bored of it pretty quick. Wow and starcraft I just can't get into as I'm not a big fan of MMOs or RTS.

There’s a lot of volume [in Super Mario Odyssey]. That was a big focus in development. Give the player tons to do. We pushed ourselves to create as much as we could. I can’t announce anything specifically today, but of course, if there was a really cool idea for us to do, then we would certainly be thinking about DLC.
That’s how you do it folks. Stuff the game with everything you can, finish it, then start thinking about DLC.

Man I want DLC for this game so badly. I already finished it 100% and want MORE :(

I'm now a partner in Twitch!

Lot of hard work and a lot of great gaming! For my new partnership, I'll be gifting 50 Overwatch loot boxes later today on my stream! If you want to get a chance at the loot, or watch me pwn people, or have a chance to have me in a group with you, send me a message as I don't think linking a mature audience stream is appropriate for this site.

All my donations go directly to the Make A Wish Foundation so its always a win win!

The battle is far from over. All we really need is just one major market to go forward with regulation and the house of cards will fall.

Wow, AMD just dropped their new Raven Ridge processors this morning. Going to hold out on a judgement until I see the gaming benchmarks but the wattage and speeds look pretty promising at the current price tags.

In a word, I'm shocked, these new cpu's are totally impressive and blow away anything Intel offers at the same price point. AMD is known for terrible drivers out the gate but while they mature over time they will improve dramatically. There is a video of someone getting PUBG at 50fps on low, thats the worst optimized game on the market for an all in one CPU to pull that off has to impress the most jaded AMD pundits.

While I would personally avoid the 4 core 4 thread cpu, you can build yourself a playable gaming PC for around $400 that can play AAA titles. Its probably a little better than first generation PS4 and Xbone, and far superior than the Switch.

AMD really got their act together, I'm totally impressed. But I still want more benches.

One of the biggest features of this chip is that it supports higher memory clock speeds natively. 2933 vs 2666. Hopefully Ryzen Gen 2, out in April, will add an increase to even higher native and overclock support. Right now 3200 OC is about the sweet spot for memory on Ryzen Gen 1.

You do realize you’re comparing stuff designed for a stationary PC to a device designed to be portable and run on a battery, right? It’s literally apples and oranges.
