The exit area from Space Mountain??

It seems to me that the exit area to SM is a bit of an after thought? Any idea what that building use to be used for? It looks like a waste of space. An arcade no one uses and a large bland space that now is used as a Space mountain gift shop.
Thanks

I hit the pinball machines all the time... they have some goodies. But yes, I agree.. in general the arcade is a waste of space

It is not so much that the games are poor or anything like that. I just find the area
"unDisney" i.e not much detail and not maximizing the space??

does anyone know what the area was originally built for?
Nothing different. The Light and Power building was always meant to be the SM exit/shop and an arcade. It is what it always has been.
It works fine for me...

Surely better than the original exit.

thanks for the info, the pic you have up does not show a building/exit. When was this changed. That being said I like the look of the picture posted better.

The exit in the photo is on the left side of the entrance area. You just stepped off the speedramp practically right outside.
The Light and Power building was added during the refurb of (I believe) 1994.
I much prefer the current setup. Not even close.

I can't say I 'love' it, but I definitely do not 'hate' it. It just works for me since that's what I remember from all my trips on space mt. From the spring of 1998 till now, that's how it's been so it's been 'disney' to me. I can imagine the people who rode it before the arcade was added having some problems with it.

I'm kind of surprised that didn't put some kind of "Tron" overlay on this arcade like they did at Disneyland. Shouldn't be that expensive- heck, you could just change the name and put a sign up and call it done.

Anyone remember the arcade on Main Street?
I used to enjoy that place as a kid and always got a kick out of some of the rather "un-disney" games they had there.

The little arcade at the Polynesian was even more fun because they had one of those weird Sega "holographic" Time Traveler games.
