Rumor The EPCOT Hotel

But does anybody actually think this is a well themed hotel? Yes, it is a hotel...and it has new rooms... which are fine, but when you see it are you transported to The Riviera? I would say no... It feels like a modern hotel Anytown USA...with a few nice details, but overall an uninspired structure and amenities.

Transported to the Riviera? No. And I don't feel transported to a New England Beach Club at the Beach Club, I don't feel transported to Africa at Animal Kingdom Lodge. I don't feel transported to a classic grand Floridian resort at the Grand Floridian..
So by that definition, pretty much every hotel at Disney is a failure. Sure, some hotels have "more theming," and some have "less theming." Some put more theming into the architecture, some put more theming into the pool or dining, etc.

Now, do I care? Not really. I like a hotel that has nice rooms, nice art, nice grounds, good dining. Riviera checks every box for me. Other resorts also check boxes to different degrees for me.
Real European hotels tend to have very small rooms. So if Riviera had very small rooms, it would be much more authentic and better at transporting me to Europe! But I'd like it a heck of a lot less!!!

While I do find it humorous that some of you cannot help but 💩 all over the design of a DVC resort whenever it is mentioned, can we please keep the discussion here limited to what the topic is supposed to be, the possible in park Epcot hotel?

All your complaints on how detestable and offensive the Riviera is should be filed here:

You’re making a mess of the forum, something @The Mom usually does not care for...

Exactly. And everyone knows the top 5 floors will be exclusively DVC, with the top floor a Grand Family Suite that'll go for 100 points per night.

Well, in a way it is topical because we are talking about a World Showcase Hotel...Which naturally makes me wonder if they would be able to fit in a hotel that blended seamlessly with the Country Pavilion it might be located in..... It is surprising that the company can create beautifully themed hotels like Hotel Mira Costa...but then produce the Riviera Resort...
I hope if they decide to do a World Showcase Hotel they are able to do something more fitting and beautiful.

Only 100 points per night? Probably triple that and we’re in the ballpark of what Disney will be thinking.

It's not topical to rehash the same exact hatred and tireless points over a resort that is not going anywhere for the next 50 years...
Get over it. It's built. It's done.

Want to extoll how detestable it is, fine, but try and do so where it's relevant, in the thread about it.

It was actually completely relevant to the topic at hand, because we were discussing how Disney's recent track record of building hotels does not engender confidence for any forthcoming EPCOT resort. Of course it makes sense to discuss the Riviera as their most recent build.

It would be almost impossible to talk about this without talking about the Riviera, if you have any interest in an actual accurate discussion. Doesn't mean it needed to go on for several pages, but there's no argument it isn't relevant.

I'm torn on this. I love the idea in principle - I think it could be extremely well done and fit in with the heart of what EPCOT was originally intended. I'd love the chance to stay *in* the park.

At the same time, seeing some randos on their balconies in the middle of the day when I'm heading back to Spaceship Earth feels off.

It would be no worse than what is in the lake.

Generally, there are no park-facing balconies. They don't want someone throwing a gun off their balcony to an accomplice below.

Ummm, I think you may be mixing @marni1971 up with someone else lol!

So what exactly is it that you think @marni1971 didn’t know? And what gave you the idea he didn’t know it? (And yes, that’s a very heavy hint). I doubt there’s anyone who knows more about the history of Epcot.

It was a joke. I never believed that he lacked the knowledge.

Please lets no go there. If a bad actor / evil minded / demented individual or individuals truly want to cause mass harm / damage and chaos firearms or explosives are not needed. Further if the hotel is in the park the hotel guests are already screened if the hotel is at the perimeter only connected to the park sufficient barrier / space will be allowed to prevent things from being tossed in. Then there is always the ever present Disney surveillance. More concerned about lewd behavior or gross act.

It's not necessarily about going there, but it's something to consider in the design process.

The Disneyland Hotel in Paris has security to get in, but entering MiraCosta did not.

To get into the main Paris park complex you have to go through one central security area. The Disneyland Hotel is within that area so security is needed.

But staying in MiraCosta, the windows could be cracked but lacked the ability to fully open. I really don't think they would make an in-park resort have balconies. After Las Vegas, I would be very surprised if a new in-park resort is made without security screenings at the entrance.
