The early word on "Malificent" is...

Disney Fanboi Rule #7,574:
Never...EVER mention the negative reviews surrounding a film from our House of Mouse. Sure, Maleficent may only be at 55% on Rottentomatoes and dropping, but we only should focus on the GREAT reviews to strengthen our cause! ;)
Ha ha. Well that's one way to live, but here in NYC, where the cheapest movie ticket is close to or above $15.00 these days, we tend to take the blinders off now and then.

Ahhhh movie critics....what do they ever like?
Just last week, X-Men: Days of Future Past.

The week before, Godzilla.

Earlier this year, The Lego Movie.

A few weeks ago, Captain America 2.

At the start of May, Neighbors.

I'm only listing big blockbuster films off the top of my head. Critics are usually pretty correct. They aren't the ones to blame for Adam Sandler movies.

Critics are overhyped opinonated know it alls. Trying to tell someone which movie they will like or not like is like telling them if they will like or not like a food dish, a music CD or video game, shirt, pair of shoes or anything else for that matter. It's all opinion and nothing more.

I can list a great move the critics hated for each one you list they liked.

Critics are more informed to understand what makes a film great and notice the smaller nuances throughout because their careers require them to ingest a far greater sample size than that of the general public.

Critics derided Alice in Wonderland, while the general public propelled it past $1 billion. I trust them far more.

A fallacy of man is thinking that every opinion is as valid and worthy as every other. Reducing a person's training and profession as meaningless because every average joe has an opinion, no matter how uninformed it may be, is foolish.

Oh please.

So I should based my enjoyment of any type of media based on what the critics say? That is just silly beyond belief.

"Well I liked it but Sam Movieton said it lacked a certain depth of character so I guess it really was not very good after all"

These are the same type of "experts" that vote at the Academy Awards

You're allowed to enjoy whatever film you want. I would consider the opinions of critics well before yours because they understand that there is more to a film than "I liked it" vs "I didn't like it". And they will likely be more able to articulate why then feel that way and make mention of films that did it differently.

And a film lacking strong characters is a very strong criticism that could detract from the final film. It isn't a spectate criticism from the opinion of the film, but a factor in the final verdict.

And you're actually very incorrect about this being the same crew that votes for the Oscars. It's not. The Oscars are voted on by members within the industry: actors, directors, writers, editors, composers, visual effects artists, and such. Very few critics vote for the Academy Awards.

I would suggest you consider yours well before the critics, I don't consider theirs at all. I don't listen to fashion experts, food critics, or music critics either.

Public opinion on movies and such has much much more validity than critics IMO.

And no there is not more to a film to me than if I liked it or not. What else is there to you?

As for the Oscars, I said it was the same type of "expert" not the same crew. Those being "experts" on their own opinion, like all of us :) Of course the Oscars is a bunch of PC garbage anyways so who cares what those sheep think?

Well if I were matching I would need one from you first right ? :)

But I can start;

"Gladiator" was given 2 of 4 stars by big daddy Roger Ebert. I would say it was a wee bit better than that don't you?

His buddy Gene Siskle did not like "Tombstone". A great film no?

Leonard Maltin did not care for "Kick ". A very fun film would you not agree?

So there are 3 beloved and highly enjoyable moves panned by three of the biggest names in movie critics.

Now If I had listen to them I would have missed all three great movies.

We will know what? This isn't a contest to see how popular the film is. I myself am among the 98% who want to see this film, and will see this film when it opens.

We're just shedding light on a misleading OP claiming early word on the movie is "rather good", when in reality it is rather mixed.

We will know what the film going public thinks, not the critics.

Awww, I'm disappointed. I thought you were going to tell me that The Golden Child (Eddie Murphy) and Ishtar were masterpieces. But the films you name got high praise by many critics, especially Kick , and you are right. All are pretty entertaining in their own way. But you forgot to include Blackfish. I know that is your favorite movie of all time.

;)

I kid.

Anyway, I'm just worried now that Malificent is going to be an unwatchable bomb. I was really looking forward to it.

I don't give two flips about the opinions of movie critics, nor the self loving internet film connoisseur so prevelant these days. Go enjoy my Coke, popcorn and not have any worries for a couple of hours. That is what its all about.

My favorite movie of all time? Curse you for asking that question! I have no answer but I do have a short list:

Favorite Fantasy movie : Fellowship Of The Ring (Brought the characters to the screen better than I though possible)

Favorite Sci Fi movie : Aliens (great movie, better than the original IMO)

Favorite Comedy : Ruthless People (On man Danny DeVito.....)

Favorite War Movie : Bridge Too Far (Classic and tragic story told very well)

Favorite Horror Movie : Evil Dead II (Ash is the man.)

Favorite Historical Era Movie : The Unconquered (classic Hollywood, and oh that red hair!)

Favorit Action Movie : Out For Justice (Yeah yeah Seagal, but what a great action movie)

Malificent might indeed suck, I doubt it though. At worst it will be a average movie IMO. We might see it next Wednesday at DTD so that will add a star alone to my rating :)
