Good Morning Everyone.Let me put this one to you.Bumped into a friend last night whose wife just scooped £36,000 ($50,000) on the lottery. She wants to take her grandchildren to WDW ( there's 4,ages from 5 yr,7yr,10yr,and 12yr,) two boys and two girls. So it's a one off he said, and she wants to stay onsite, but where? She is coming to see me tonight for advice. So let me ask you good people.Where would you recommend in WDW for this one off vacation. They are 6 in total. Two adults & four children.Iam swaying towards a family suite at AoA,but would like to hear your suggestions.Remember it's a once in a lifetime trip and according to him,she doesn't mind spending big time on this holiday.

If they are serious about staying at one of the DVC resorts, the least expesive way to do this is to rent someone else's DVC points. It's usually possible to rent points for about half of Disney's rack rate. Just be aware that it's usually much more difficult to cancel.

If it were me, and the $ were there, and it's once in a lifetime...

...MK facing suite at the Contemporary. I'm just thinking, if this is a once in a lifetime kind of thing- I want the castle out my room window/balcony 24/7. Plus you've got the convenience factor...i.e. walk to MK, super easy access to all of the monorail resorts, a boat ride to WL, fireworks and electric water pageant practically every night w/music piped in, easy monorail access to Epcot, and considering that the monorail resorts all have at least one or two popular TS spots- that convenience factor really pays off. It's tempting to pick BCV for Stormalong Bay, but if $ were no object- I know I'd be at one of the 3 monorail resorts in the most amazing room possible.

Can't beat the monorail resorts, I agree, if you have the money to blow and want to do it up big, then its a must to go Comtemporary.
Mad Hatter... sounds like they really really need an escort, someone who knows the lay of the land. Someone who can guide them through the World so they can get the most out of the trip. Someone with the means to make this trip memorable and magical. Sounds to me like they need to take you along.

You repeatedly used the phrase "one off" and I don't know what that means. Care to enlighten me?

If she won a bunch of money playing the lotto and wants to blow it on a WDW vacation, I would not advise a value! AoA is cute, but...it isn't nice! If I wanted to stay somewhere comfortable, had to stay on WDW property and was willing to pony up the dough to do that, I'd get a 3-bed DVC place.

Ok.A one off means your going to do something once only.(Like a bungee jump) :)

I don't know. They are taking their 4 grandchildren I would think they would want to stay somewhere that the kids might enjoy. I'm not saying they won't enjoy those other places because I don't know them, but I think a suite at AoA would be a lot more fun for the kids. Just my opinion.

AoA gets my vote too..... Just because of the children! I really believe that the kids we loved all the different layouts at AoA!

Just to say thanks for all your suggestions. They were round at my house last night and I gave them all your ideas so there away home to study and decide for themselves.Where ever they choose am sure they'll have a magical time.:) They asked me if I would like something brought back for myself.I pondered for a moment then said " Magic Cookie Bar " please.

OMG..What American state still uses the axe as punishment for winning a lotto.;)
yep anytime there's money involved they have their hand out. Income, Real Estate, Sales, Prizes (taxed on the value of the prize) Each year there is someone that won a car from dealership promotions that does not have the money to pay the taxes on the car. The only thing I can think of that we are not taxed on are newspapers.

Given the age of the kids, I'd go with the Contemporary, Polynesian or Grand Floridian as they are the very convenient to the Magic Kingdom. If the youngest kids were a few years older, then I'd consider the Epcot area resorts.

If it's a one time trip, I'd want to choose my resort based on the quickest travel times to the parks. The less time on buses, the better.

Definitely the Poly!

And WOW, you don't get taxed over there on winnings?????? I won a car last year and of course, I had to pay federal and state tax this past April.. I made out good because I sold my car after I won the new one and used that to pay the taxes, but it still made me so mad to write that check in the end! LOL :p
