The Disney Channels In Disarray

I don't think having 2 shows that feature a girl as the main character (Doc and Sophia) counts as being very girl centric...
Doc, sofia, sheriff Callie, the little mermaid, jojos circus, Ella the elephant, can all be seen on Disney junior and I would consider them girl centric. And I say this as a dad to two girls.

I'm impatiently waiting for more episodes of Gravity Falls. :D

Oh, me too. Have you seen the Gravity Falls shorts? They're hilarious! I think what's great about Gravity Falls is that even though weird things happen, the two kids act like real kids. And they don't pick on each other all the time. Great show.

You must definitely be talking about Fairly Oddparents, which was cancelled at one point, but due to the public wanting it back, they rebooted it with the birth of Poof. Around 2005 Nick brought in new writers for Spongebob and it has been going downhill ever since. The writers who left went on to make some good shows for Cartoon Network.

Well, Spongebob used to be an innocent kind of guy, but then he suddenly got really stupid and annoying. :p

The Fairly Oddparents, yeah, that's it. Obnoxious as heck. The guy fairy talks like his shorts are too tight.

The thing that I'm most surprised about is the lack of development for the actors right now. The casts of Shake It Up and ANTfarm are full of really, really talented kids - I could see Zendaya, Bella Thorne, Caroline Sunshine and China Anne McClain all being huge stars with enormoust cross over potentional for the channel. But they aren't developing the talent like they used to (with franchises like Camp Rock or High School Musical). It'll be a shame to not see these kids develop into the big stars they could've been.

Instead, they seem to be fixated on the kids from Austin and Ally and Kickin It.

Regarding the girl-centric argument, I don't think that matters. My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic over on the Hub is "girl-centric" and is wildly popular with boys and men. Good entertainment is good entertainment, regardless of who it's aimed at. If producers do their jobs right, people regardless of gender are going to enjoy it.

Proof of how Disney Channel has been crap for the past decade (excluding shows like Kim Possible, Lizzie McGuire and Even Stevens)... I found a montage of Zoog Disney (if you don't remember Zoog, you missed out) commercials. There were actual Disney shows and programs that aired on the Disney Channel! Would you look at that. Whose bright idea was it to stop airing shows and content like Zorro, the original Mickey Mouse Club, Disneyland, Silly Symphonies and others? I wish I could find those people who decided to stop airing those programs and hit them over the head with a frying pan, Rapunzel-style. Not to mention the original shows like So Weird and The Famous Jett Jackson with great storylines. I would rather watch this eleven minute video than watch one episode of any one of the terrible shows nowadays. Watching this video makes me even more disgusted with the current Disney Channel programming. Playhouse Disney/Zoog Disney/Vault Disney FTW.

I completely agree. Like I said in my previous post, This must be a case of someone new coming in and giving the axe to anything he/she didn't green light.

There's been a very obvious difference in quality of the last two years in the shows that are being developed and the shows that were gaining popularity (Shake It Up, ANT Farm, Kickin' It, Good Luck Charlie) have all been given the axe to be replaced by garbage like Dog With A Blog, Mighty Meds, Austin and Allie and Lab Rats.

To take this one step further, when Shake It Up was cancelled last year, it was the number one rated show for kids 6-14. It was cancelled in the middle of just its third season (shortly after GLC was cancelled). The show had tons of potential for music downloads, merch sales and even crossover possibilities for the stars. It easily could have gone another 2-3 years and made TWDCo a ton of cash.

Agree Phineas and Ferb was a GREAT show, DW and I coach a Robotics team for high schoolers and even THEY enjoyed it as P+F would build some amazing device only to have it vanish by means of Dr Doof's latest 'iniator...

Now whats on is total CRAP, Agree new President's eqo is crowding out his brain and losing the company money in the process...

I dunno. I thought it was established a few years ago the Disney channel usually only keeps shows around for 4 seasons max. I can't think of a time when shows have lasted longer than 4 seasons.

My wife and I are definitely bummed that GLC is over. That was the one show that our family could all watch and appreciate. I can stomach Austin and Ally (it pretty benign) but I really can't stand Dog with a Blog and Jessie. Both are just poorly written shows that hold adults up as idiots.

My almost 5 year old son mostly watches Disney Jr. Lately he keeps asking me "But why is it all about girls? They think girls can do anything and boys are nothing." I started paying more attention and I can totally see how he came to that conclusion. It's too bad that we can't build up ALL kids.

Uh... Miles From Tomorrowland? Jake & The Neverland Pirates?

Uh-huh. Your point? The main character is still Miles, hence the show's title instead of Captain & Mr. Calisto From Tomorrowland. There's also Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, where 2/3 of the cast are guys.
I'm not here to argue. I never even noticed it, this was coming from my son's point of view. Now I notice it and was wondering if others had noticed it.
Also, I wouldn't call any of the non-human characters from Mickey Mouse strong male role models.
