The Disney Channels In Disarray

Yup, My DD likes watching Jake just as much as Sofia.
My sons are 5 & 3, of course they love Jake & Octonauts, however they love Sheriff Callie even more. They also love Sophia the First and Doc McStuffins, especially since mom is a Doc. I posted a pic of my oldest son with his Doc McStuffins doll before. He takes it everywhere in his backpack. He was just asking me for Sheriff Callie toys to play with.

What about Henry Huggle Monster? He's the main character and a boy also new this year. I personally think it's very old fashioned to assume just because the lead character is a girl or boy that it is geared toward one sex or the other.

I specifically said:
"It doesn't mean boys can't like them, or that they are exclusively for girls, but it does mean that the networks new offerings are skewing towards a girl demographic."

If you don't think Disney XD is geared for boys and that now they're skewing Disney Jr. and the Disney Channel to appeal a bit more to girls (which The Disney Channel always did anyway, hence the reason for Disney XD), then you are incredibly naive. Once again, it doesn't mean boys or girls can't any enjoy any of the offerings, but that doesn't mean they aren't intentionally trying to capture a specific market for specific channels at specific times.

Why are you so incredibly hung up on one line of about 10 paragraphs anyway? In the scheme of things it really doesn't matter. What matters is the awful programming The Disney Channel is now putting out.

As for Henry Huggle Monster, never heard of him (but I'm just recently getting back into Disney Jr. because I have a son getting to that age). They must not be promoting him much.

I agree that Disney XD is geared to older boys and Disney Channel is geared to older girls. I don't think Disney Junior is geared towards either sex, they want preschoolers of both sexes.

My boys r the same age and love the same shows!

Disney jr appeals to both boys and girls alike. They do a great job with that channel! It is the only Disney channel we really watch. Te boys willsometimes watch xd but only for Phineus and Ferb. Sheriff Callie is a great new show and so is Henry Huggle Monster.

I do believe Disney channel is geare more toward tween girls, and Disney xd is geared toward tween boys. But the programming on both is complete sh*t!

Here is a complete list of all the shows they air on Disney Jr. Just click the current programming tab.

With that said, there r really only 4 shows that feature a girl as the main character, however, all those programs appeal to both boys and girls. I wouldn't say it's more centric to boys or girls...all the programs appeal to both my boys, ages 5 and 3. They don't care if a show has a girl or boy as a main character. It's just what appeals to your kids.

Why would they cancel a show that is getting excellent ratings? Seriously, does anybody know why? I feel they could have gotten a few more years out of it at least.
After making Lemonade Mouth, Bridget Mendler wanted out of her GLC contract to focus on her musical career. The series also had to be changed to write in the real life pregnancy of the Duncan mom on the series, putting the premise that Teddy was making the video diary for Charlie odd as there was a new baby.

To take this one step further, when Shake It Up was cancelled last year, it was the number one rated show for kids 6-14. It was cancelled in the middle of just its third season (shortly after GLC was cancelled). The show had tons of potential for music downloads, merch sales and even crossover possibilities for the stars. It easily could have gone another 2-3 years and made TWDCo a ton of cash.
It's the same story, Zendaya wanted out of her SIU contract to focus on her music career. She released her solo album and toured on it last year.

Good to know. Why didn't TWDCo just sign her to a record deal themselves? I would think they would pretty much own all aspects of any young star on the channel. No reason she couldn't do both. Talk about looking a gift horse in the mouth.

It's a shame. It was a talented cast and a show that was finally getting some decent writing. If there has been a recent show that could have been a Hannah Montana/Sonny With A Chance/Lizzie McGuire sized hit, Shake It Up was it.

EDIT: After some research, both girls are signed to Disney's Hollywood Records. There's no reason their Hollywood or singing asperations would come before the show if they have a contract. I'm really doubting that's the reason the show ended.

Given that TDC cancelled Shake It Up, ANTFarm, Good Luck Charlie and Phineas and Ferb (all very successful shows) somewhat prematurely leads me to believe there's an ego at play here that wants to have their own shows on the network (rather than shows that a predecessor green lit).

Nickelodeon, which also has terrible shows .
Ugh, We can't stand Nickelodeon either.
What? You can't stand the 8 hours a day Spongebob is on? Spongebob reached the "this isn't funny" stage around 2005 when their best writers (C.H. Greenblatt and co.) were let go. Now many of the episodes are downright gross or disturbing. Such as the much advertised episode where Spongebob gets fired from his job. With the state of the economy these days, who thought being fired from a job would be funny?

They had some success over the years with the spinoffs of DreamWorks movies (which Cartoon Network now has the rights to any spinoffs released after Dragons) and the rebirth of the TMNT franchise. The current new shows such as Sanjay and Craig and Breadwinners (the brief episode I saw they were twerking on each other) are just plan horrid.

Spongebob is fine, though I don't watch the new episodes. I'm talking about stupid shows like Victorious, Big Time Rush, Zoey 101, Drake and Josh, iCarly, etc. Stupid, stupid, STUPID. Thank God I grew up watching other things.

I think just like the Disney channel, nickelodeon was great back in the late 80s and 90s! Some of the best shows! It has now, like Disney channel, gone way down in programming and is probably worse off that Disney channel is at this point I would say.

Yeah, I agree. There's also this cartoon about two fairies or pixies or something, and a snotty little kid I can't stand. The VOICES alone are horrible. I used to watch Spongebob, but it hasn't been funny lately. Don't know what happened. Writing maybe?

I just think Spongebob has run its course. It first debuted when I was seven; I'm now in my twenties. It's time for it to go.

You must definitely be talking about Fairly Oddparents, which was cancelled at one point, but due to the public wanting it back, they rebooted it with the birth of Poof. Around 2005 Nick brought in new writers for Spongebob and it has been going downhill ever since. The writers who left went on to make some good shows for Cartoon Network.

The Fairly Oddparents is a great and funny show, even more funny and clever than Phineas and Ferb. Nick was stupid for getting rid of Invader Zim, which was also hilarious and clever, not to mention edgy for a kid's show. Funny how the show with an original storyline, characters and jokes gets cancelled after just two seasons. I hate it when that happens.
