Trip Report The Day is Hot and Full of Beers *Completed

Winter is not coming (yet), but Summer is here! Lets get right to it!!! This is a TR with my Mother and I at WDW in August. For anyone who did not read my PTR, we planned on 4 days at Bay Lake Tower. My Father was in the original plan but had to stay home for work. My mother ( @luvinthemajik ) was rushed to the hospital for heart problems just days before we were scheduled to leave. She spent two days there and it was bit tense waiting for the test results, but the Dr cleared her for travel as long as she did not drink wine (which she LOVES, especially at WDW) and she had to take it VERY slow since it would be hot.

After my Mom was released and had a few days home to rest,we definitely needed a couple days at WDW to unwind and take it slow. She was also ordered not to drive so I would be manning the wheel. We decided to take her Mini Cooper which is turbo charged and convertible (rain drop). I drove to my parents house at 5 am to pick up Mom and we hit the road!

IMG_20170828_054621.jpg

On our last trip, my parents picked me up and had concerns that I would not be awake at 5 am when they arrived. As you know from my last TR, I was up and ready. I figured I would not have to give my parents the "you better be awake" speech for this trip. I called Mom as I pulled in their subdivision. She was asleep!!! hahahahahaha!!! I was ready to read her the riot act, but then I remembered that it wouldnt be wise to get her heart rate up. Dad woke up and we had her stuff loaded in he car within a few minutes and we hit he road.

Smooth sailing to Florida. We stopped for fuel and that when I realized I Forgot my pith helmet. The gas station had some unique hats, but it didnt feel right.
IMG_20170828_112101.jpg

Some Illuminati one eyed symbolism, lol. Grabbed a quick selfie with Mom and we were back on the road

IMG_20170828_111845.jpg

We were in Florida a few hours later and I realized I had a check in my pocket that a client had written to me. I meant to give my dad to deposit for me but in all the haste of loading the car, I forgot (shocker). We pulled of in the city of Windermere, Fla so I could deposit it. Such a beautiful town to drive through. We left the bank and Mom wanted to go topless!! Of course Im talking about dropping the top on the car....stop with your dirty thoughts, thats my Mom!!!!!

IMG_20170828_130332.jpg

Such a fun car to drive. It hauls serious a$$ with the turbo. I made a quick pit stop for beer near Downtown Disney and soon we were on property!

IMG_20170828_135300.jpg

Mom took the pic of the Disney sign since I was driving. We arrived at BLT and gave the bags to bell hop. She has a handicap plate so I got an excellent parking spot. It was around 130 pm and to my surprise, the room was ready! We headed straight up to unload the bags since we had a 2:25 ADR at BoG.

As @lostpro9het had told me, the lobby smell is AMAZING. Almost as good as YC (IMO). Our room was on the 12th floor. Here is a view from exiting the elevator

IMG_20170828_135548.jpg

That view could never get old!

We had lake view for our room but could still the main building

IMG_20170828_135759.jpg

Mom had decided to get a scooter since walking in the heat would be tiresome. As @fractal mentioned in his current TR, you really get a better understanding of scooters when you visit with someone who needs a scooter. I have a COMPLETELY different and tolerant view of "scooter folk" now.

Up next...waiting on Moms scooter and a completely horrible experience with concierge desk at BLT. Thanks for following along!

Following along, late again!!!! I echo all the above statements regarding the CM's at Bay Lake Towers/Contemporary. I have always wanted to stay at the Contemp or BLT's, but now I am questioning that. I think I'll be more than happy at Riverside, where we feel at home. I hope the rest of your trip was much better:)
On another note, the chicken parm sandwich looked fabulous! It's my favorite and I will definitely try it on our next trip.
Can't wait for more of your great report!

I had sort of the same experience on Star Tours one time. I had a very small, appx 4 inches by 3 inches flat leather bag strapped around my waist, which I forgot to put under my tshirt. Well, you would have thought I was trying to smuggle in an elephant according to the sargent CM!!! She got very indignant and singled me out. I honestly didn't know what she was talking about, because it was belted on and was about the size of a small tissue! Anyway, I finally made a big deal of undoing it and putting it s l o w ly into the net so the other riders were safe from decapitation. Some people just have no common sense. I know you have to put obvious large items that can harm others away, but come on!!!
I feel your pain.....................

Day 3 contd....

After a short afternoon break at the room I headed to Epcot. I had one thing on my mind. Food! I like BoG and the food was good bu I had made an ADR a month prior at Chefs de France. Reservation for 1. I had been patiently watiting for one of my favorite meals at WDW, but we will get to that shortly. First, a selfie with my old friend was in order.

IMG_20170830_152702.jpg

I had about an hour and a half until my reservation so I headed over to Imagination. This is another fav Hidden Mickey, mostly because the kids in the family get a kick out of this one.

IMG_20170830_163904.jpg

There was all kinds of action with people prepping for Food and Wine in the area. I made my over to WS to begin a slow stroll through the countries to end up in France. First stop, Norway, for an Einstock White Ale, and I actually got a photo this time.

IMG_20170830_165402.jpg

There is just as much prep work going on around WS for F&W. Several workers at the Italy booth getting their instructions I suppose.

IMG_20170830_165906.jpg

I stopped to watch the show in Japan

IMG_20170830_172416.jpg

Soon I was in France but still had some extra time so I grabbed a 1664.

IMG_20170830_172954.jpg

My wife had been texting me to see what I was up to. She had done some freelance work for Guerlain so I stopped in the Guerlain shop in France pavilion and got a slefie with the staff in there to send to her. I had never met them but they were very nice and I impressed them with my knowledge of their skin care products (I just parrot what I hear my wife say, lol)

IMG_20170830_173920.jpg

My wife got a good chuckle from the picture but was glad to see me checking in on her colleagues.

It was about 20 minutes until my reservation so I walked over to Chefs de France. I checked in and got seated early (yay). I had been craving a particular dish since I last had it when my wife and I dined there a few years ago. I got a great seat by the window and saw some older ladies bounding and had to get a picture.

IMG_20170830_180931.jpg

I ordered my food right away since I knew what I wanted and didnt need an appetizer. The waitress brought it out about ten minutes later.

"Ma chere Mademoiselle, it is with deepest pride
And greatest pleasure that we welcome you tonight
And now we invite you to relax, let us pull up a chair
As the dining room proudly presents
MY dinner!"

IMG_20170830_175355.jpg

Now, it may look like a simple pasta dish, but I assure it is anything but. This is the Gratin de Macaroni. It has sharp gruyere cheese and is baked to a have a golden crust. Under the baked crust is ooey-gooey cheese and soft shells of macaroni. It is absolutely delicious. I ordered another 1664 to accompany it and the bread was warm and steamy as always.

IMG_20170830_175401.jpg

It was an excellent meal and the service was great. If you are ever at Chefs de France and cant decide what to eat, I highly recommend this dish!

Up next....more Epcot!

Day 3 contd....

After dinner I enjoyed a stroll back through WS. I could seriously walk around WS all day and never get bored of it. There is so much to do and see.

Kids these days and their cell phones!!!!!

IMG_20170830_182536.jpg

Lol, it was nice to see the bounding ladies again.

Grabbed another Einstock on my way to check out the new Mission Space

IMG_20170830_183958.jpg

I stopped to pay homage to Ellen and Stupid Judy

IMG_20170830_184959.jpg

I finished my beer and headed to Mission Space.

IMG_20170830_190952.jpg

I have no problems with the intense version but wanted to try the new green version. I think it was pretty cool and had a good theme to it. Kids should really enjoy it and adults with motion issues shouldnt have to much issue with it.

After the ride I made my way to monorail and headed towards MK.

But first, I stopped at @Tuvalu favorite spot, the one and only Tambooo Lounge!

IMG_20170830_200959.jpg

There were some guys there trying to impress the woman at the bar with their conversation. Sadly, they had fruity drinks and I think the woman judged them for it, lol.

IMG_20170830_195226.jpg

This was the drink the man put down when he left

After Tambooo I headed to Mizners and enjoyed a few beers while chatting with a gentleman who is a Captain of one the boats at Disney Springs. We had a great conversation and the band was playing directly behind the bar. Mizners had redeemed itself as a drinking spot for me.

next up...finishing off the day at MK!

Day 3 contd...

After enjoying a few rounds at Mizners I grabbed a Jai Alai and strolled around the lobby for a few minutes before boarding the monorail. I was glad that I visited Mizners since I have had several trips there that were never really anything special or enjoyable, but this lat visit was fun and I had a great conversation with the Disney boat captain. One thing I have learned over all the years and visits to WDW is to never write off a restaurant, attraction, show, or anything else after one bad experience.

IMG_20170830_211912.jpg

After my beer headed to MK.

IMG_20170830_214942.jpg

You will have to pardon the quality of the pictures as I was pretty tipsy by his point. Wait times were pretty low so I stumbled over to Pirates.

IMG_20170830_220106.jpg

IMG_20170830_220520.jpg

After Pirates I visited Peter Pan but didnt get any photos.

Then I headed over to Mansion. I snapped this photo (which I dont remember taking)

IMG_20170830_223551.jpg

And at some point during the ride, I fell asleep. I remember waking up atthe cemetery scene. I figured it was a good time to head back to BLT and call it a night.

I worked up and appetite on the walk back to the resort so of course I stopped and got the beef grilled cheese.

That wraps up day 3. Day 4 up next!

Following along! Glad you and your mom are enjoying yourselves, despite a few difficult CM's. That's the thing. Like you, I get a time, date, location and name of the cast member and report it as soon as possible! On our last trip, I only reported 3 super positive people. I'm hoping it's the same case this year! Especially since I'm taking two new-to-Disney peeps. I agree, Customer Service IS an attitude! One that most people in Disney are usually great at!

You are accomplishing a TON! Thanks for showing the map of the FOP line in AK! We are super lucky we have FP's for FOP and NR. I am surprised they ran EE in the rain! Awesome! Worth the pain, I hope!

My husband had the Mac and Cheese at Chef's De France in 2015 and LOVED it! This is coming from a picky Mac and Cheese eater!:pWe were in Epcot the week after Thanksgiving in 2015 and France still felt very busy to us. We must have been there at the wrong time of day. But at least we could get near the bakery!!!:D:D:D

Can't wait to read more!

Completely agree! No trip for me is complete until I get my macaron ice cream sandwich!
They are soooooo good! Hoping they add more flavors soon!!!
That meal at Chefs... I am drooling.
It really is good. MAybe youll get to try it on your upcoming trip. It is definitely worth it and Harper will be a bit older by then so perhaps you can start planting seeds in her mind now about France pavilion and how much she will love it, lol.
