The Country Bear Jamboree

If you can think up something better to put in a 300 some odd seat theatre with no queue what-so-ever I'd like to hear it. God only knows the horrors that Country Bear Jamboree: Under New Management could bring us.

When I last went, both times I attended the audience clapped along (even if they had no sense of rhythm) and had a good time. Sorry to hear your crowd sucked.

Dear god, please don't give them any ideas! I look at it this way, Country Bear Jamboree is a classic Disney attraction, it would be like getting rid of Pirates of the Caribbean. I have been to many shows where the audience is really enjoying the show, other times people are just trying to escape the heat. I think that TDO just needs to start putting time and money into their refurbs and attractions will start looking a lot better. Plus I personally would laugh if they tried to pull the "it's a major attraction, we must keep it open" routine, they could easily close the show down for a year and bring in new AAs and a great sound system. If people could actually hear the show, without having to deal interruptions such as the clanking noises Melvin makes when he moves his ears (personal problem with the show), I think that would solve a lot of problems. Besides with the "quality" entertainment we are currently getting at WDW, do you really want to see another Stitch's Supersonic Celebration?

I love the show. It does need some TLC and updated audio technology.

I've offered my services, but they have yet to call me. :lookaroun

Every showing of the country bears I've been to has people clapping and laughing.

It'll probably become Princess Jamboree or Grizzly Hall: Under New Management featuring the cockroach from Wall-E.

I was there Tuesday. First visit since I was in highschool 30 something years ago. Seeing the Bears made me realize how much the country music scene has changed since the 70's. Back then you could find real life places where local musicians put on hokey shows in roadside theaters. The Country Bears were a very good sendup of these places and had a relevance that is missing today.

The show Tuesday had about sixty people in the theater and a handful of us were clapping and trying to have a good time but the majority of people were just sitting there. I think it could use a good refubishment and updating. It felt 'dusty' for lack of a better term. The sound was too low, the CMs doing the announcing before and after seemed listless compared to the other theaters I visited. The music itself felt tired.

The characters themselves had a lot of appeal. I saw them in the streets later at the MVMCP and they had a huge crowd around them. My girlfriend who thought the show was boring had a great time dancing in the street with the Bears. She is Canadian and this was her first visit to WDW. She had never heard of the Country Bear Jamboree before. This tells me that it's the presentation of the show and not the characters that need some rejuvenation.

Spruce it up a bit, new sound system, do a better job of explaining the premise in the preshow, dust the characters, clean the costumes and light a fire under the humans involved. It's a great place, but it made me sad to see it feel so neglected.

Although I respect the opinions of those who love it, I personally have never liked CBJ. Even when I was a little kid I never enjoyed it; it was one of those things that my parents thought I would like, but it just never really resonated with me.

Still, I'd hate to see it turned into something like "The Country Bear Jamoboree: Under New Management by the Supporting Cast of Hannah Montana". If if does get a refurb, I hope it's something that keeps the spirit of the original attraction intact.

It's a good place to get out of the heat and take a nap.

As far as the show itself...Rapping hillbilly bears who drink corn squeezins(moonshine) from gallon jugs, play one string GITars and sing about just shootin little Buford instead of hitting him....well it's just not my "THANG"

Not only is the attraction around because its a cute, entertaining attraction, but it also has significance in the parks history

Country Bear Jamboree was one of the last attractions Walt Disney approved. He really loved the bears, they made him laugh alot.

They talk about it more extensively in the Imagineering books, its a good story

I -want- to like it... like I did when I was like... 10.

But that was 17 years ago and times have changed significantly.

Solution: It needs a Walken AA.

Relax, I'm just kidding. Although, on second thought, wouldn't everything be better with a Walken AA? Just sayin'.

I never liked it when I was a kid, but I find the words to the songs pretty funny now that I'm an adult. Also my son (18 months) loves it. Our crowd has always been pretty good about participating. I'd be sad to see it go just because it's a classic. (i would like to see them update the soundtrack though)

Just my opinion...lol

That's a good point. You can still hear Loretta Lynn and Conway Twitty on the radio here in Tennessee (on dedicated retro country stations, not the mainstream ones), but I would bet must Americans, any maybe even most country fans have never heard their music, and certainly not enough to appreciate a parody.

If they WERE to re-imagine the Country Bears, maybe it would be worthwhile to take it in a more bluegrass direction. It makes more sense if they're going for "backwoods mountain music" anyway. After all, Alison Krauss just won a ton of grammys.

It did just have a major refurbishment, reopened Oct 2008.

They already gave the attraction a new sound system!
