THE COUNTDOWN CONTINUES...(and are YOU questioning your next trip)?

It's finally here! The year of Disney! My Disney 50th Birthday trip is 281 Disney Days away! October 8th - 18th! Cannot wait to see all my Disney friends...Mickey, Goofy, Tigger...the whole gang!!!! This will be my 50th birthday trip and 'presumably' my last, because its getting pricey and too long to save(being on disability) BUT no worries, we are planning to make this trip the best it can be!

So the question I pose to you is this...

Has Disney Parks prices got too expensive that you are contemplating on planning your next trip as early as usual or are you going to wait a little longer to begin planning?

I'm fortunate that the considerations for trips centre around vacation time available, not costs. With 6 weeks' vacation per year, I have lots of options.

1st I've been able to afford but maybe again in a couple years. Only enough vacation time at work for hubby every 2 years, but that means allowing it to carry over from a previous year, no snow days declared by school because one of us has to stay home with DD8. Another big problem has been my work approving more than 2 days off in a row. It took going to the union to even get the one planned for June approved. No rule limiting how many days in a row, but dept manager relys on me too heavly.

We are going in October 2017...been planning since June 2013...IF you don't NEED/WANT to stay on property and you view your hotel room as a place to shower and sleep...private me and I will give you a link to the site I used for my hotel. If I would have gone through the hotel website, its would have cost $1,000.00+ for 8 night stay in a queen room for 2, using the site I got the same room for $480.00!
Everything is paid for as of now and all I have to do is put spending cash away each month! WOO HOO!

We've definitely put off planning. We totally skipped 2016 and looks like we may skip 2017 as well. It's a combination of high cost and not feeling we're getting our money's worth with the overcrowded parks.

We are spacing trips further apart and "cramming" more in while we are there to try and get our money's worth. Price, crowd levels, and waiting on construction an AK and HS.

We are on the plans now of every other year, buying APs, and making 3 trips in that 12 month period. With APs we can save a ton staying offsite which offsets the AP price and have better accommodations for 60-70% less than Deluxe.

We had been going to WDW every other year (2013 and 2015) but we decided to skip going in 2017, because we booked a trip with 2 other couples to Cancun for a week for March 2017, so we were planning on taking our DD (7) back to WDW in 2018. My parents have decided that they want to take us (my wife, DD and I) on a Disney Cruise for their 40th wedding anniversary, and they were very insistent that this trip was on them and they were paying for the flights and the cruise. We did some talking and figured since we are going to have to fly into Orlando to get to Port Canaveral for the cruise we are going to suck it up and spend the extra $$$ this year go to WDW in 2017 after all. We are just going to do a shorter trip this time, 5 days, instead of the 8-10 days we have done in the past. We have now booked Dec 7-11 at WDW and 11-15 on Disney Dream.

Cash rules all!
Because my DH is not willing to compromise much on the typical way we tour, we are not able to go as often as we would like. I myself would have no problem staying at a value resort, eating QS the whole time, not adding the hopper, not getting a rental car. He, however, feels differently which is fine but it does prevent us from going as often as we would like. Even if it is a low budget trip, it still costs money so we usually choose to just save for the trip we want and go less often. I'm also not working and in grad school right now so it's helpful to not spend when we don't have to, or find time in a very busy schedule to actually relax and enjoy a trip.
We went last 3/2016 and are likely going again either 3/2018 or 5/2018.

130 days for me. I'm not questioning this trip. I'm very excited as I haven't been since May 2014. I'm trying to save up as much money as I can.

Not questioning this trip at all...very excited about the trip(50th Birthday trip), we haven't been to WDW since May 2013! BUT because the prices are getting a little much for someone on disability to handle, this will most likely be my last trip. But I am not going to say NEVER, just yet, but not planning another trip after this one! Saving the spending cash is the hardest part of the trip! I have 10 months to save, I am figuring on $100+ per month 'should' be enough cash for spending!? Also, since I am pretty sure this is my last trip, I am considering purchasing the Memory Maker so we can have more professional pics of our trips than the ones we would take! Anyone have any advice on the Memory Maker experience? Please let's hear it! Happy New Year, Disney friends!

Have you looked into doing Mturk? I know it can be slow going and not enough to live on but it's so far been my source for spending money when we go in June. Since August up to $630 in my spare time.

DH and I are planning a trip for Sept. 2017 at the moment, but when my DH came across this article it made both of us rather sad and second guessing our trip. I do believe that once we have children, trips to Disney will be very limited. We only go every 2 years now, but I cannot picture being able to afford trips with a family. My parent's never took us as kids, I didn't go on my first trip until I was in college in 2012 and I paid my whole way myself... the prices just keep going up. It still feels like a huge chunk of change just for 2 adults to go, even when we base when we go/where we stay all on getting free dining. I know there are cheaper ways to do disney, but they really can charge whatever they want if you are wanting to stay in the "disney bubble". I hold on to the hope that they will maintain prices somehow and make it so average families can continue to attend.

If you don't want to read the whole article, here is a little blurb from it that felt like a kick in the shorts "A one-day ticket to the Magic Kingdom currently costs $105. In the year 2000, it cost $46 – which, if you adjust for inflation, would be only $63.40 in 2015 money. That means that, in real dollars, it costs about $40 more to visit the Magic Kingdom today than it did 15 years ago.
If you go even farther back, that increase is even more striking. In 1985 one-day ticket cost $23. In 2000 dollars, that equals $36.81 – which means the cost of a Disney ticket only increased about $10 in real money between 1985 and 2000."

Their prices go up, and our wages stay the same. It breaks my heart, but I'll likely keep going until I can't anymore.
