The Corvette at Pop Century

I've always wondered if the Vette was real over at Pop Century, so when I got to stay there on this last trip, I headed over to check it out. I snapped a couple of pics of it. It is definitely real, but has no engine in it. Someone had managed to open up one of the little side windows so I got some shots of the interior as well. I know most people won't care, but I'm sure there are a few car buffs out there. I have all of them posted on this Flickr album:

Did you find out what the back story is of this car? For example, the "Herbie" at the water play area (I don't know what else to call it) at ASMovies was orignally used in one of the parades before it was re-assigned. It may have also been used in a movie - I don't know for sure.
Also, how do you know the 'vette doesn't have a motor? I can't tell by the photos.

Seems like a couple trips ago I recall the Corvette was MIA. I noticed it but figured it was out for a "refurb". Anywhoo, I've never tried to look inside it. Those pics were pretty cool. I never had any doubt it was real but it was neat to see.

To the person who asked how you could tell there's no engine. Poke your head or a mirror up under the front end of the car. Big empty space = no engine. :animwink:

I looked through the grille in the front and you could tell there was nothing there. I tried taking a pic of it, but I didn't think showing a big empty space was going to be that interesting to post.

Nah, no clue on the story of the car. Doubted anyone at the resort probably knew either so I wasn't sure who would know. Anyone else on here know ?

I had just never seen it in person (only in pics) since I never stayed at Pop Century before, so I was never sure if it was real or not. On top of that, it wouldn't be a far cry for the Imagineers to have acquired a "prop" body that existed before or something. Had always wondered if it was a real one. That car is worth a pretty penny as it sets right there (of course, its nothing compared to what Disney spends on stuff).

On the theme of cars, does anyone remember the New Year's car in Pleasure Island? It was one of the better photo-ops at WDW. *reminisces*
