Team Tiki's Five Year Plan

2017: Seussville and Geisel Park

This brand new land at Universal Studio Hollywood will be located at the edge of the upper lot next to Minion Mayhem. This will be one of the most comprehensive areas in the park and will feature three distinct areas..."Mulberry Street" which is themed to the iconic Seuss book and will play host to the wacky suburban house in which the Cat in the Hat dark ride takes place; Geisel Park in which guests can find a relaxed yet still zany atmosphere complete with several calm family flat rides, and WhoVille which is home to the Mount Crumpet Bobsleds...the tentpole "E Ticket" of this new expansion.

Located in the Whoville subsection at the back of Seussville, this mountain is the home of the Grinch! This actually a spoof of Disneyland's Matterhorn, complete with bad Swiss music and even worse yodeling heard as you approach the mountain. Also, if you look really hard, you can see Whos scaling the mountain. The queue takes you through Whoville en route to the mountain, similar to Expedition Everest, which similarly takes you through structures en route to the mountain.

Once at the load area, you climb into a ramshackle bobsled for a thrilling trip through the Grinch's lair.
The ride starts with the Grinch on his way down into Whoville to steal Christmas as you climb up the mountain. As you climb the lift hill, you spot some of the monsters from the Grinch's Paraphernalia Wagon (from "Halloween Is Grinch Night"):

Once at the top of the lift hill, you go through the ride where the Grinch makes ready to go down to Whoville to steal Christmas. Along the way, you get some views of his lair/blueprints for evil inventions, plans etc., including at least one or two shout-outs to "The Grinch Grinches the Cat In the Hat". And, in a further parody of the Matterhorn, the Grinch substitutes for the Abominable Snowman, trying to scare you off. At another point, another parody of the Matterhorn is spotted during the ride: the Grinch's crashed sleigh substituting for the Wells Expedition gear.

For the climax, you reach the very top of the mountain, where you again meet up with the Grinch as he's having his "heart grew three sizes" moment, complete with a physical heart monitor, like so:
FCC-Grinch-Small-Heart.jpg

As that happens, the Grinch, with "the strength of ten Grinches, plus two", lifts his sleigh in the air in a climactic moment...
grinch1.jpg

...after which you speed down the mountain and join him in Whoville for the finale, involving the Whos' feast, where "he... HE HIMSELF...! The Grinch carved the roast beast!"
happyEnding.jpg

At the end of Mulberry Street is the house of the kids from "The Cat In the Hat". This is where the Cat In the Hat ride will take place, not in a tent adorned with a giant hat, as in Florida.

Also located at the end of Mulberry Street are Sylvester McMonkey McBean's Very Unusual Driving Machines. You ride in silly, Seussian cars for a crazy car ride through the world of Dr. Seuss. At one point, you travel across the highway that passes over the two Zax who are left standing unbudged in their tracks. At another point, you drive onto a tree branch which is also holding up the car from "Green Eggs and Ham" ("You may like them. You will see. You may like them in a tree!" and "I would not, could not in a tree. Not in a car! You let me be.").

Being as it is themed to a character from "The Sneetches", you also travel through the wacky Star-On and -Off machines, similar to the Sneetches cartoon (sample of the Star-Off machine can be found here, from 7:53 to 8:36):

The climax of the ride takes you into space, along the Hoober-Bloob Highway. A sample of this can be found in the commercial below (starting at 0:30):

Geisel Park will have iconic trees such as truffulas (from "The Lorax") and zinniga-zannigas (from "The Rabbit, the Bear and the Zinniga-Zanniga"). For those of you who don't know about that story, it can be found in a newer book called "The Bippolo Seed and Other Lost Stories". Here's the story for that:

Here's a brief rundown of Seussville,, plus a few new additions, to make the area more complete:

ATTRACTIONS:
  1. Caro-Seuss-el: Located in Geisel Park, this is a double-decker carousel with a twist - the animals are all Seussian animals.
  2. The Cat In The Hat: Located at the end of Mulberry Street, a dark ride through the story of "The Cat In The Hat".
  3. Horton's Elephant Birds: Located in the Seussville park, in this Dumbo-type flying attraction, ride in giant elephant birds from "Horton Hatches the Egg".
  4. Mount Crumpet Bobsleds: Located in the Whoville subsection, travel on ramshackle bobsleds through the Grinch's mountain lair, but watch out for the Grinch!
  5. Sylvester McMonkey McBean's Very Unusual Driving Machines: Located on Mulberry Street, a racing ride along the roads and highways of Dr. Seuss, through the Star-On and Star-Off Machines and culminating in a race in the stratosphere, along the Hoober-Bloob Highway.
  6. Tweetle Beetle Paddle Battle: Located in the Seussville park, based on arguably the most iconic part of "Fox In Socks", spin about in giant Tweetle Beetles, but be careful - they wield giant paddles and know how to use them! (Don't worry, they miss!)
  7. The Wocket In My Pocket Fun House: Located at the end of Mulberry Street, a fun house themed to "There's a Wocket In My Pocket".
DINING (all located on Mulberry Street, except for some themed snack stands in the Seussville park):
  • Casa Casatta: The restaurant from "The Grinch Grinches the Cat In the Hat" comes to life.
  • Sam-I-Am's: A fast food spot that serves - you guessed it! - Green Eggs and Ham.
  • Hop On Pop Ice Cream Shop: An ice cream parlor and soda fountain.
SHOPPING:
  • Mulberry Street Emporium: The biggest store in Seussville, located at the start of Mulberry Street, obviously, selling all manner of merchandise from the world of Dr. Seuss.
  • Cats 'n' Hats 'n' Things: A clothing store themed to "The Cat In The Hat".
  • Whoville Mercantile: Located in the Whoville subsection, after your ride on the Mount Crumpet Bobselds. One whole section of the store sells Christmas items - ornaments, stockings, toys and more, all with a Seussian twist.
While this new land does have some similarities with Florida's Seuss Landing (such as the Caro-Seuss-el and the Cat In the Hat ride), but much of this land is quite different and unique!

2018: Jurassic World Lower Lot Expansion

nwortdqnzipj7fuz8rtq.jpg

f6tpC.jpg

In the second year of our massive universal expansion we will be opening up a major new land to coincide with the release of Jurassic World 2. This new land will give you a more immersive feel that the old ride could never have done.

As you descend from the escalator you will be greeted by the above gate welcoming you to the new land. Crossing through the gate on the left side of the land you will see that during the expansion the mummy ride has been demolished. In its place rises the Jurassic World Welcome center.

Jurassic1_Main.jpg

As you enter the new welcome center you will see the front half is really a replica of the movie. Where we have the holograph dinosaurs as well as a lot of information about dinosaurs with a video by of course Mr. DNA welcoming you. Of course we also have the Jurassic World gift shop so we can sell all of the new merchandise come out with the new film. However what changes this from the actual center is that the rear of the building with be our new restaurant which or course will be serving lamb chops. I wanted this eatery to have different rooms so that each time you come could be a different experience. The first room will be a homage to the which will have the dinosaurs painted on the wall and look as just like any other restaurant. The next room will be that of the cryolabs and the final room will be the control center of the new film. All of the servers will be dressed in lab coats and make them look like the scientists from the film. Below are some pictures of the new rooms of the eatery.

Attractions:

Jurassic World River Adventure:

DLC00012.jpg

The original attraction will get a major overhaul as well as some new construction and scenes to really bring the story to life. Some elements will remain others will be taken out completely and we will open with a whole new experience. The story begins as you will be going on one of Jurassic Worlds newest attraction. You enter through a more lush queue as though you are walking through the jungles of costa rica. You will get on boats which will be repainted to reflect the new theme of the land. Bryce Dallas Howard will be your guide and doing the voice over work during the attraction.

You will go up the the first lift to the first scene that will get a major upgrade. All the dinosaurs will be taken out an replaced with stay of the art dinosaurs that could almost pass for being real. Next you will hear the voice of Bryce telling you that you be passing there newest attraction the Indominus Rex. As you pass the paddock the Rex will charge out and appear to start charging at your boat. This will cause your boat to crash through a new gate and throw you off course. As you get through the gate you will get whooshed up the hill.

This is a complete redesign as the hill will be moved over to where the boat where the floating Mickey ears were. There will no longer be a building look to it but more of the jungle feel. Now you go up the new hill upon arriving at the top you will see the crushed gryosphere and then you pass the military van. Just as it seems to quit the Rex pops out on the side on the jungle and comes almost close enough to touch the boat and your boat goes down the Waterfall just like in the film this is also where you picture will get taken.

Once at the bottom you see the river goes through this old looking building. As you enter you will see that this is the old welcome center of the original Jurassic Park. You will come face to face with the I. Rex one last time. As you leave the building you hear Bryce come over the speaker telling you they found a path here to get you back on track. You go through another gate where as you head to the exit you pass a few more of the new dinosaurs. As you exit you hear Bryce telling you not to worry they have everything under control and enjoy the rest of Jurassic World.

So you see that we will be keeping some of the original scenes but there will be some major reconstruction of the ride for the new scenes and the old scenes will get major upgrades. So it will feel like a completely new attraction.

Below are some pictures of the last scene of the old welcome center:

jurassicworld-concept-art-9.jpg

jurassicworld-concept-art-12.jpg

Our final two attractions for this land will be going to the back of the river adventure and to the side of the Terminator attraction this is a new piece of land that will be expanding the park as well. This will give this corner a little more for guests to do.
Jurassic Petting Zoo:

In between the new indoor coaster and the river adventure we will be having a small area for the kids. Here they will be able to pet dinos as well as ride a few like above. This will be all new state or the art animatronics that will have the kids believing that the actually saw a dinosaur.

Gyrosphere coaster:

Also getting added and is the final piece to our Jurassic World land will be the Gyrosphere coaster. This ride will focus more on the newer films and will be able to adjust depending on the future of the series. Since we are taking out the new 3-d Kong in the studio tour I thought the technology would greatly help in this ride.

The queue will be set up like the one in the film where it is outside and you our one the plain of the area. There will be five gyrospheres connected together so 10 people can get on the coaster at one time. You will put on you 3-D glasses and just like in the film you tour guide will be that of Chris Pratt. You will enter the ride building and the screens will already be playing the great valley area where you see the herbivore dinosaurs. Everything seems to be going well the dinosaurs are walking so close and even over your. You then hear Prat say something is wrong the invisible force field is down. This is where the coaster takes on the more thrilling aspect. As your cars get hit by clubtails you spin out of control when you finally see where you are at your cars smash through the glass the aviary. He they flying dinosaurs start to attack to Pratt takes controls from the booth. He is able to get you out of there but you are so far off course he thinks that he has found the road but you end up right in front of the water arena where the Mosasaurus jumps up and tries to get at you. Pratt is finally able to get you back in control and you got down a steep drop back to the valley where you finish up the ride before docking back at the end.

The Park is Open 2018

2019: Overhauled Studio Tour

Part of Universal Hollywood's 5 year expansion will be an update to the world famous studio tour.

The queue will be themed to something like a Universal museum. It features many props from movies not in the tour. These include some of the classic Universal Monsters, Despicable Me, Ted, Gladiator, Apollo 13, and 2 whole sections dedicated to the Fast and the Furious, and Jurassic park franchises.

There are many new additions to the studio tour that optimize the experience and build upon the rich history of Universal Studios. Some of these additions include:

  • New pyrotechnics to the Jaws scene, as well as a new audio animtronic Jaws that strikes fear into guests, and even inches up to the tour trams!
  • An upgrade to the classic Bates Motel features a shadow of Norma in a window, as well as shrieks and the faint sound of running water in a room. These additions add a new immersive element to this scene in the tram tour.
  • The Mummy set gets some new updates, as well as some new lighting effects. These updates are basic, but still add a new immersion since the Mummy ride will be removed.
  • The Earthquake set will be replaced with a much more iconic one... E.T.! The new set is themed to the final half of the movie. Like the classic bike chase, the trams make many run-ins with cop cars through the neighborhood. Overhead is a projection of the moon with the iconic scene with E.T. and Elliot flying on the bike. The set ends with a spaceship, and E.T. saying goodbye.
And finally...

  • The speed tunnel for new attractions has been scrapped in favor of one of the most iconic Universal franchises... King Kong! Much like the classic Kong soundstage that burned down over a decade ago this set is themed to a city being wrecked by Kong. At the end, Kong rampages and grabs the tram complete with much more realistic simulated movement in the return of this beloved character!
2020: Hogwarts Express and Diagon Alley

Due to the limited space at Universal Studios Hollywood, a full blown second park complete with an expansion to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter is simply out of the question. With that said, we at Team Tiki still wanted to give Hollywood guests a taste of the more complete experience over at Orlando that includes the famous Hogwarts Express as a legit mode of transportation outside the main park to a new Potter themed land.

With that in mind, we decided to open up a full blown Diagon Alley expansion to Universal CityWalk. Expanded back from the far end of the shopping/dining complex and using Kings Cross as a transitioning point, Diagon Alley will recreate all the same shops and dining experiences guests can find at the Universal Orlando counterpart including Weasley's Wizard Wheezes joke shop and Florean Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlour.

While it would be a logistical nightmare to put a full blown E Ticket attraction into a CityWalk, guests of this Diagon Alley can still get a tour of the world famous Gringotts Bank. Every hour a tour guide will take groups of guests down into the vaults of the bank, complete with a more elaborate and spread out version of the Escape From Gringotts queue (including the impressive elevator effect) as well as an extended walk through tour of the Gringotts mine with an AA dragon waiting for you at the end. Speaking of dragons, the one famously perched on the Gringotts building in Orlando will be recreated for this Diagon Alley...only this time the dragon will come complete with realistic wing, neck, and mouth movements as well as sound effects of roars and the familiar pyrotechnic fire breath.

While this expansion isn't quiet as grand scale as the Orlando counterpart, we hope it's a good substitute considering the limited space in Hollywood, and makes the Potter experience more complete. We'd also like to encourage potential Imagineers looking to expand the Potter land inside the park to take queues from other parts of the Potter lore so that the need for an Escape from Gringotts clone doesn't exist.

2021: The Return of Back to the Future

For the final phase of our five year plan we decided to create a brand new E Ticket attraction out of the much loved and missed Back to the Future franchise. As time has gone on since the original ride's closure the fanbase around the original trilogy has only grown stronger and stronger (plus, current Adult Swim show "Rick and Morty" has brought a new attention to the characters by presented a twisted parody of Doc and Marty's relationship...) While it'd be impossible to revert The Simpsons back into Doc Brown Labs due to the Springfield expansion, we figured the franchise needed something bigger and better in the first place.

With that in mind we set our sites on the Water World stadium as well as some surrounding area. While Water World has been a shockingly popular show for many years in spite of the turkey of a movie it's based on, we all agreed that most people would take a new Back to the Future ride over a decades old show based on a forgotten movie any day of the week. Using all new technology which combines projection mapping with Peter Pan's Flight style model fly-overs, and a brand new inverted Enhanced Motion Vehicle to simulate the bumpy flight of the DeLoreon, were please to present our trip back...To the Future!

Upon getting in line for the new Back to the Future: The Ride!, guests see the facade is a replica of Doc Brown's house from the first movie. Once guests enter the house, they go through a museum dedicated to Doc Brown's life and inventions. In the living room is an AA Einstein fast asleep on the couch.

Down the stairs they go into a secret garage filled with dozens of makeshift time machines, among them the famous DeLorean, the train from the third movie, a vessel with a resemblance to a Chinese junk, and a gyrocopter with a flux capacitor. It is here that the pre-show begins.

On the overhead monitors, a found-footage-type video plays explaining how the Institute of Future Technology went bankrupt, so Doc Brown had to fund future time travel adventures himself and move the essential facilities to his home. The video is buzzed out, and the frizzy black-and-white screen from older TVs are seen.

The screens go back to normal, but we see Biff telling us how he discovered the garage, and is "takin' a little joyride" with one of the DeLoreans. It's now up to us to stop him. Each ride vehicle is a mix of an inverted coaster with slow sections that let you take in the scenery Peter Pan's Flight-style. They accelerate during the more thrilling scenes.

Some of the scenes are as follows:
-A chase scene through futuristic Hill Valley including the floating freeway and the 3D Jaws projection. And AAs on hoverboards...Mix of practical effects and projections (for the cars on the highway...). On the ride vehicles, the date will be shown as 30 years from the present. So, if you were to ride in 2019, the date would be shown as 2049.

-The alternate 1985 Hill Valley in a large room with a giant model of Biff's Casino. Below are AAs gambling at poker tables, slot machines, and the like. In one corner a Vegas-style cabaret is being performed. Sure enough, at the casino's front entrance, Biff's henchmen are kicking someone out "the hard way". This could be done Peter Pan's Flight-style.

-1955 Hill Valley, Enchantment Under the Sea dance. Lots of AAs dancing about, giving a similar visual to the ballroom scene in the Haunted Mansion. Clearly visible "future Marty" is sneaking around as current Marty is playing guitar on stage. If you look closely, you can see Doc Brown freaking out through a window.

-Another chase scene in 1955, ending in a collision with Biff's car and a manure truck in a freeway tunnel. Biff can be heard screaming, "I hate manure!"

-Wild West Hill Valley. Another Peter Pan's Flight style overview of a model, this scene depicts the night festival from the third movie. As the western version of "Double Back" is heard, Buford's gang can be seen causing trouble. Ride ends with the DeLorean Train taking us back to the present.

And with that we conclude our five year expansion plan for Universal Studios Hollywood. While the park might still have a long way to go and might never really feel like a full blown all day theme park like its Florida counterpart due to the naturally cumbersome layout, we hope these expansions go a long way towards making USH a true destination in its own right.

Review time:

I really wish you included a map with this presentation, I found myself struggling to figure out where exactly you wanted to expanded into and wasn't sure if the ideas that you have will fit, before I get into the negatives.

I love the presentation and the concepts given. You went blue-sky with this and I enjoyed it. Every attraction you present would win over the crowds, That being said I think you underestimated the amount of rides you could build in the space suggested, and I wasn't to sure if the gryosphere coaster was a coaster or not. I couldn't figure out how that ride system would work.

End all, I am glad that you maintained the backlot. The Studios are still living and breath studios and its beautiful that you decided to maintain that instead of just emptying it out for rides would be a crime. :D

Challenge 3 - The Choice

So this is the hardest part of being a judge for me, but as in any competition, in order to determine a winner, contestants need to be eliminated along the way.

With 16 of you left in the competition, in this challenge, Challenge 3, one contestant will unfortunately be eliminated.

It's very difficult to make this decision when two teams didn't submit, but reviewing the Team PMs, Voxel and myself have seen that Team englanddg/Sam actually had content to submit, but unfortunately had nobody to submit it. Team MonorailRed on the other hand only had ideas, but no real content, so the elimination will come from Team MonorailRed

It was a very tough Choice...but based on little contribution last round and this round @Perry2x2 is eliminated from the competition. It was so great to see you come out and you had some awesome ideas! Thank you for playing and we hope to see you again soon!

This is the end of Challenge 3.

Challenge 4 will be posted momentarily!

Challenge 4
"It Ain't Over Till It's Over"

Taken inspiration from one of the late Yogi Berra's most famous quotes, his catch-phrase actually represents a lot about what the Disney Parks and Resorts are all about. As Walt Disney said "Disneyland will never be complete. It will continue to grow as long as there is imagination left in this world."

This challenge will seek to combine both of those philosophies as we travel back across the country to Walt Disney World and the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.
espn-wide-world-of-sports-00-full.jpg

Since its inception in March 1997, this 220-acre complex has hosted numerous sporting and athletic events, both professionally and scholastically. But unfortunately for WDW guests and sports fans alike, unless you stay at either Disney's All-Star Sports, Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort, Disney's Pop Century Resort, or have your own vehicle, there's no transportation provided to this complex. In addition, unless there's some major event going on such as an Atlanta Braves Spring Training game or a high-school football game, there isn't much for the general WDW guest to see anyway.

That's where you come in! In your teams, you will design a refurbishment plan for the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex to not only make it accessible for guests, but to give everyone something to do once they get there.

Here's a map of the complex to get you started:
4643

Have some fun with it and good luck! :)

Challenge is due Monday October 12th at 8 PM EST

Sorry for the super short proposal I just felt the need to post this rather than go proposaless.
Featuring seven lands in all
Map key to the bottom left of map.
All will be mentioned in counterclockwise order starting from the entrance.

The Gateway - reaches from CityWalk to Shrek 4D

Broadway Boulevard - reaches from the lower left entrance of Harry Potter to the end of where WaterWorld Stood

The Wizarding World Of Harry Potter - enough said
Suess Point - stretching from where the original tram entrance was to the escalators down to the old lower lot

FutureStreet - nestled between the escalators to the lower lot.

The Backlot - simple name for a simple land for the old named lower lot

Hollywood Avenues -stretches from Despicable Me all the way to The Gateway

LINK TO MAP
https://www.dropbox.com/s/frcg2b0l400vyil/USH MAP 2.0.png?dl=0
The tram's entrance is relocated in front of Revenge Of The Mummy to allow that area of the park to have a more backlot feel.

SuessPoint will feature 3 rides,
An E-ticket flume ride into the colorful lands of The Lorax Movie, a How The Grinch Stole Christmas movie with bobsleds running down the mountain which the mountain will also be used as the big drop 50+ feet for the flume ride as well as will house the coaster.
A small, but visually impressive dark ride into Green Egg's & Ham other properties
An outdoor spinner ride of sorts.

FutureStreet
Will feature an Eticket suspended coaster themed to special effects, and the special effects show that was previously here will get an overhaul to keep it up to date, and make it more interesting.

Broadway Boulevard will feature two live action shows one fully inside like Hyperion Theater in California Adventure (MAMMA MIA!) and the other like The Beauty & The Beast Theater in Hollywood Studios (can't remember the name) (Anastasia). A d-ticket titled Lights, Cameras, to the movies! That goes into the movies, not quite as big as The Great Movie Ride, but it still would be cool, and use better effects.

The night show would be a story to celebrate movies past present and future, without using any fireworks similar pyrotechnics wise world of color
I wanted to add McParrodox's amazing sketch, but I do not know how to post pictures.

Team Tiki's Brand New Wide World of Sports Complex

Throughout the years, the WDW property has been renowned for having a little something for everyone. From the obvious stuff like the theme parks and resorts to attractions that are more well hidden such as La Nuba, DisneyQuest, and the water parks (though they still draw a huge crowd.) One area of the property that's never gotten a ton of love is the Wide World of Sports Complex.

Well let's see here. Disney appeals to basically two key demographics...kids, and adults high on childhood nostalgia. Neither of these demographics see professional sports as the end all, be all of a WDW vacation. For that reason the WWOS has rusted away for many years, home to the occasional professional sporting event but all but abandoned at any other time. That's where we came in.

espn21.jpg

So much space goes so unused for so long every year at the Wide World of Sports...

There's no reason why this complex can't cater to a much larger demographic of WDW guests with a few relatively simple inclusions to the area. First things first...a brand new Olympic stadium will be built This will be state of the art and come complete with a giant swimming pool, a track, and a large sports field all under one roof. It's an ambitious project that hopes to draw in the real Olympics to host one of their future events at the stadium...Something that would of course draw attention to the WWOS in a way like never before.

z2giicgsbzfgbiyxu3cs.jpg

How cool would it be to see these rings shining over the Walt Disney World property?

Inside the halls of this new stadium will be a museum dedicated to the greatest moments in Olympics history. Here guests will be able to see everything from a prolific photo gallery of great sports moments to the world's largest collection of real authentic Olympic medals won by historic athlete. Every single Summer and Winter Olympics game will be documented in some capacity within the museum. From props and set pieces from various stadiums to comprehensive lists of gold, silver, and bronze winners throughout the decades.

Just for fun, keep your eyes pealed for some Hidden Mickey style Animal-Lympics characters hidden within the museum! (this is one of the first shorts that future members of Pixar and the TRON production team worked on...well before CG animation was was possible...)

Disney's Great Moments in Athletics Miniature Golf Course

What better way to draw a younger crowd who might not appreciate the sophistication of professional sports than having a state of the art miniature golf course celebrating everything that the "Wide World of Sports" has to offer. You can putt putt your way in between iconic boxing and tennis matches.

Disney's NASCAR Grand Prix Go Karts
Three Different Levels of Racing Action!
nascar-logo.jpg

Rev up your engines and watch the checkered flag, Disney's Wide World of Sports will be opening up an all new state of the art Go-Karts experience for drivers of all levels and ages. There will be three different levels, or "Cups" that are accessible to guests depending on their age/driving ability.

The Junior Cup: This is a series of three small, looping go-kart tracks with scaled down karts for younger riders. All guests 12 and younger can only drive on the Junior Cup. An example of what a track might look like...

race-place.png

The Novice Cup: This is for drivers over the age of twelve who do not have a drivers license. Any non-licensed guest no matter how old is free to drive on both the Novice and Junior Cups regardless of the fact that they don't possess a drivers license. The Novice courses are a bit more advanced and feature dips and bumps in the track as well as obstacles such as traffic cones and hazards on the road. Tracks here will be easy enough to navigate for those who don't drive but too tricky for younger guests.

The Pro Cup: Licensed drivers only, drivers license is required. The Pro Cup uses larger, more professional level Go-Karts specifically designed by NASCAR. The course will be an intense multi-level affair featuring steep drops, sharp turns, plenty of hazards, and jarring speed bumps that will test even seasoned drivers.

Finally, there will be a new large building built specifically for indoor rock climbing/ziplining/trampolines/whatever other kind of crazy fun things you can think of. This would basically be the "Recreational Sports Center".

Speaking of SportsCenter, a new dining experience will be built themed around the iconic sports broadcasting program. The set will be entirely recreated and professional sports analysts will come in every night to perform a round of current, heated sports discussion and debate while guests enjoy their sports bar style food.

original.jpg

And that concludes our presentation. We hope these new additions bring a new level of interest to a property that's been severely lacking in foot traffic over the past decade or so.

Challenge 4: It Ain't Over Till It's Over
Team @MonorailRed's Submission

The ESPN Wide World of Sports is one of the many unique and different offerings WDW has outside of the parks. However, we feel its concept really hasn't quite made full use of the potential it has, which is why a full refurbishment of the complex is warranted. Starting in mid-late 2016 after the completion of Disney Springs, ESPN WWoS will receive some major changes as it becomes the ESPN Sports and Entertainment District!

This new area will be nothing like what's there now. It will become a whole new area for families to check out and enjoy their afternoons/evenings, much like DTD/DS, or maybe even spend the whole day there with the many experiences and attractions it has to offer. With updated shopping/dining, brand new sports simulations, updated fields/courts, etc., bus transportation to and from all Walt Disney World Resort Hotels, and the inclusion of more Disney references/characters, this refurbishment has it all!

Sports Simulators:

- Surf Simulator: Where guests can go for a "Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride" like Lilo and Stitch.
- Tour De France: A new kind of exercise bike where guests are seated in front of a screen that makes it seem like they're riding down the streets of Paris.
- Matterhorn Rock Wall: Basically your typical rock wall, with a bit of Matterhorn theming to it. Be careful as you climb, you might spot a yeti!

Shopping:

Shopping is going to be a huge part of the experience here, whether for purchasing memorabilia or new sports equipment. Disney will be partnering with many companies to bring some of the best in the industry to the ESPN Sports and Entertainment District! It will feature top names such as Under Armour and Nike, stores for some great, modern equipment such as Garmin and Fitbit, and even a Gatorade shop similar to Club Cool!

Below is a poster that'll give you a sneak preview of some of the awesome stores that will be entering the complex during the refurbishment.

Dining:

As with any entertainment complex, one of the most integral components needed for success is good dining. And the newly refurbished ESPN Sports and Entertainment District features a wide aray of restaurants for different types of food and different budgets, all inspired by the many sports and activities that are represented in the complex.

-With this being a district themed around ESPN, it only makes sense to have a bit of theming to the headquarters. The Seasons cafe, the largest company cafeteria on property in the headquarters in Connecticut, will be recreated for guests to get all sorts of food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

-There are so many different water based sports represented here, which makes a seafood restaurant like you'd find by the shore a perfect fit! At SeaShack, a quick service location, find delectable on the go snacks/small meals including fish and chips, coconut shrimp, and cool beverages. Or, if your in the mood for a full meal, the table service restaurant The Ocean View House offers more high end seafood specialties. What makes The Ocean View House special though? Inside, it has an atmosphere of the beach at night, with low lighting and a "window" overlooking the sun setting on the ocean (similar to the snowy windows in Be Our Guest).

Paia1.jpg

-Baseball is America's sport, and one of the things that always comes to mind when you think of it are the food and snacks! In a small baseball themed area themed to the road outside Fenway park in Boston, there will be several hot dog stands and food trucks selling burgers, popcorn, peanuts, and of course, hot dogs! In addition, the famous Game On restaurant built into Fenway Park will be recreated as a lunch/dinner table service restaurant for guests to enjoy it's amazing food and baseball themed atmosphere.

-At the heart and center of the district will be The Olympian Table, a restaurant with food samplings from many different cultures around the world. It will have Olympic theming, and overall celebrate how sports are a big part of many cultures and that we can come together to enjoy and compete them with each other.

Meet and Greets:

Throughout the refurbished complex, guests will be able to meet their favorite Disney characters all dressed in their "sports" outfits. For example, Lilo and Stitch will be located next to the surf simulator. In addition, characters not featured in a simulator attractions (such as Daisy, Pluto, etc) will meet near the entrance plaza of the refurbished complex.

Streetmosphere/Nighttime Entertainment:

Throughout the day, street performers will add lots of fun energy to the area. Many will perform really cool tricks, such as balancing/dribbling soccer balls, shooting an arrow from a bow to a really small target, martial arts demonstrations, or basketball free throws into difficult hoops. These additions will give lots of entertainment to the guests as they explore the complex.

At night, guests can line up in Champion Stadium, also refurbished, and watch a (scripted) 15-minute comical and exciting baseball game, with one team being professional players, and the other being some of your favorite Disney characters! Who will win the intense game? Find out along with Goofy as your announcer!

There will be some other minor yet important aspects of this refurbishment, too. All of the fields used for special events or activities will be refurbished and maintained more regularly with more people enjoying them. In addition, because there will be more people here, the infrastructure, such as sidewalks, parking, and other things will be included in the refurbishment. Lastly, as mentioned earlier, bus transportation will be provided from all resort hotels.

Overall, the newly-refurbished ESPN Sports & Entertainment District will have a lot to offer in terms of family entertainment, exciting and fun attractions, and awesome nightlife. With this overhaul, the WWoS will go from being that "extra" thing in WDW that few get the opportunity to enjoy, to being considered another necessary part of any trip. Thanks for reading, and we hope you enjoyed our proposal!

The Wide World of Sports Complex will undergo a major expansion to be completed in 2020. The complex will be renamed to Disney's Sports Park and will feature a distinctly Disney feel, but share the same excitement for sports that many of our guests have. Modeled after Olympic Parks that can be found around the world, Disney's Sports Park will be filled with state of the art athletic facilities, but also activities the entire family can enjoy. Disney's Sports Park will also work with efforts to bring more development to the I90 area by creating new buisness, housing, and cultural opportunities. It will provide a new and exciting gateway into the Walt Disney World Resort, and exploit the natural beauty for which Florida is known.

Our transformation will begin by demolishing the current facilities on site. In their place will be several centers that will be laced together by an elaborate emerald necklace.

Rasmussen Convention and Welcome Center:
Named after the ESPN Founders, the Rasmussen Convention and Welcome Center will offer guests nearly 2 million squarefeet in exhibition, event, media, and conference space. Also located here will be the Sports Grill, a large table service restaurant with trophies, pictures, sports memorbilia and tv screens showcasing some sport competitions. Guests will also find the World Wide Sports Store, a location where guests can purchase Disney and various sports products.

The following are things that will be in the complex:
[Aquatic Sports Center]
[Main Stadium Center]
[Recreational Sports Center (tennis, baseball, handball, softball, Virtual reality)]
[Disney Bowl (large arena)]
[The Lakefront at Olympia Gardens (residential/commercial center)]

Disney's Olympia Gardens
The final complex or element to the renovation and expansion of Disney's Sports Park will be Disney's Olympia Gardens. The Olympia Gardens will connect all the various developments and complexes together with tree canopied pathways, lazy and relaxing rivers, rolling green covered hills, vibrant flower beds, large recreational ponds, and open green spaces that can be used for events or family gatherings . The focal point of this complex will be a large sculptural fountain. This fountain will sit in the center of a large lake and will tower above its surroundings with not just it's sculptural icon, but also its dancing streams of water. At night the fountain will come to life and but a colorful and bright end to the day.
Owens Stadium will be our main Stadium named after Jessie Owens.
Also a massive dome that will house ski slopes, snowball fights, and even ice swimming will be here aswell (the touristy side of the complex).
Don't know if I should be doing this, but better something than nothing.

spacemt354's Reviews

Great job to all teams! Matt informed us that he had something unexpected come up in his personal life tonight and will be unable to do full reviews until tomorrow. But nevertheless you will still receive results and the new challenge tonight as always!

Also full disclosure for my reviews. I'm a huge sports fan...so this challenge was actually pretty cool. Part of me wanted to actually compete in it...:D

Also I like breaking up your posts and reviewing instead of just paragraphs...but it was making my computer freeze......so ol' fashioned paragraphs it is...

Team Tiki

Very nice overall! I think you definitely tried to go bold with this proposal and as I was reading it...it started off with a bang with the Olympics, but then it seemed to teeter off into more of a neutral territory.

My main complaints would be the lack of a map and overview regarding what is being replaced. The WWoS hosts numerous collegiate and high school events throughout the year. My high school used to compete down there and I know bands do shows and competitions in those buildings. Is all of that just going away? Or will they still compete, just in Olympic sized stadiums? Also a map would have helped me located where these additions were going.

But enough of that...I love the idea of the Olympics in WDW. Maybe not so feasible? But hey...Orlando is climbing up in the ranks of US cities in terms of population and expansion. It has an international airport and is becoming the theme park mecca of the world...never say never.

I like the additions of the mini-golf course and Nascar - which is definitely an element I think the WWoS complex is lacking....things to do for the whole family. And the SportsCenter dining option would definitely be a favorite among sports fans (I'd make my ADR right now;))

Overall a great proposal, we will see how it holds up!

Team Monorail Red

Really well put together project! First off...logo is great and I liked the correlation to Disney Springs. The transformation of Downtown Disney to Disney Springs is the kind of upgrade WWoS needs. Keeping what works and upgrading the rest.

That being said, which was similar to Team Tiki, neither of you mentioned what will happen to the current events that high school teams look forward to each year. Nor what will happen to the Atlanta Braves Spring Training, or the ESPN High School football games or College Basketball Tournaments, etc.

Amendment: Just saw that @MonorailRed's team actually did include a little footnote at the end about special event fields getting refurbished...but as I say below...

I'm not going to hold either team accountable for that...meh just because not everyone knows that and if you're not a sports fan...you probably don't care. It was just a detail that I was hoping to get a paragraph of info on saying something like "In order to prepare for this overhaul...the Atlanta Braves will be moving to A...and the games will be held in Disneyland instead" Idk...something like that;) Anyway moving on....

Enjoy the map even just for simplicity. Just for giving me my boundaries while reading a project it makes it so much more helpful to understand. And it adds to the aesthetics as well. I really like how you're trying to include that "Disney" touch to the complex. I like the Matterhorn Rock Wall especially. Dining and shopping are also musts, and you did that well too!

Also I must say...this image...I literally just walked down this street here 30 mins ago to get my dinner:cyclops:...there's a Panera Bread right down that street...

Landsdowne Street is awesome...any baseball fan's dream (even if I'm a Yankees fan) so a replica of it would be sweet! (caroline) ...sorry only Red Sox fans or New Englanders will understand that:p

Overall, well done. Definitely a tough decision coming up because both of the presentations had their strong points!

Team england/Sam

A nice effort, but unfortunately this just wasn't your week. Not only were the other two projects more well rounded and complete (in my opinion) but you were late, and your coach did not inform us he wasn't able post the project.

I can say that if this was more complete...I think you were on the right track and this could have been awesome! Next time!:)

Challenge 4 Results

With Matt and Vox gone tonight...I've looked these projects over at least 3 or 4 times now to make sure I didn't miss anything.

With a bold concept from Team Tiki, they definitely put together a strong proposal and great contribution from their leader @TheOriginalTiki , though Team MonorailRed's proposal was some tough competition, putting together an overall blend of aesthetically pleasing logos and maps, thanks in large part to the stellar job of @IDInstitute stepping up for the team. Team englanddg/Sam could have had something great, they were almost there, so next time watch out for them...

With that said...the winner is....

Team MonorailRed - an overall strong project with the images and descriptions to back it up
A strong 2nd place from Team Tiki - a very good proposal, but I was slightly confused on where everything was fitting in the complex, and also ScorpionX had a go-kart component in your pm that never got submitted. Would've been another cool addition.
And a 3rd place finish for Team englanddg/Sam. A strong idea much like Team Tiki, but in the end detail and promptness were your downfalls. But shake it off for next round!

Now with regards to The Choice at the end of each round regarding eliminations...unfortunately @Doodlyday had to drop out of the competition this round. Fortunately though, that means nobody is eliminated!

But be warned...this competition is about to heat up...get ready and bring your best effort ;)

Challenge 5 will be posted momentarily!
