The Weather Channel was just talking about WDW opening the Castle for families to stay starting in January. Is this true?

Yes, when they remove all that stuff from the castle, they are setting up a room (rummor has it that it is the apartment Walt was going to stay in) for people to stay over night, not a week.

That would be cool. Gives a new meaning to extra magic hours.

Rumor also has it this is something that will be given away to several guest. Like every 100th, 200th, 300th ect. guest/family.

As part of the upcoming WDW celebration, "A Year of a Million Dreams," one of the grand prizes is a stay at the Castle. They are currently preparing it for this special purpose.

There may be blood on Main St then! That is a truly great prize and one that every Disney head would want to win!

That contest is awesome.. I hope the family who wins is deserving.

I can't imagine falling asleep in that castle- I'd be wayyy too excited.

I think this would be the mother of all dreams to come true. But I'm confused on how this is going to work. How do they let you sleep in the castle and at the same time keep you out of the park? Will there be security stationed outside your door? Will your room have windows? If it does won't you see how they are moving things around and cleaning the park?

I've also heard, from the CM who did our Keys to the Kingdom tour this summer, that the family staying in the castle will also be the grand marshall of that day's parade. And I think the also get a golden fastpass for life... or maybe it is a lifetime pass to return to the world.

I also heard that they will be doing this at all of the other parks around the globe.

Anyway you slice it... it should be an awesome reward for the lucky person and family.

Since Disney already has programs available for guests to view the goings on backstage, (keys to the kingdom, backstage magic, etc...) it wouldn't be too much of a stretch for people to stay in the castle while the park is closed. Seeing people pressure wash the streets late at night is not as big of a deal as seeing a headless mouse.

The part they left out was that you will be in lock down in the castle, with no free drink refills on the refillable mug, no late night swimming in the mote and/or strolling along Main Street. If you do find your way out you'll be run over by a stroller.

TWC does all kinds of vacation destination stuff. Ski reports, beach, river rafting, amusement parks. They have a few vacation shows even.

If I remember right, they're also setting up a Mickey-themed apartment inside DL for the same reason, just not in their castle. It might be inside Walt Disney's apartment above the fire station, but I could be wrong on that part.

This whole thing brings up many questions in my head:

What if I got to go to the bathroom?
What if I want something to eat?
Where do I take a shower?
What if I want to go to Pleasure Island?
What if I want a beer?

I have read on other sites that the night in cinderella castle is causing a lot of head aches at WDW. While the space was originally intended to be an apartment for Walt and his family, it never materialized. At one time, the phone operators worked there, and eventually became a storage room. I am sure since it was intended to be an apartment, there is a bathroom and shower (or at least plumbing for it.) I would assume snacks and refreshments would be provided, but I really don't know what they will do if guests choose to wander. There really isn't anywhere to go. I doubt they would allow guests to roam the park at night.

Hopefully someone from here will win so we can see pictures.
