Trip Report "The Best Disney Trip EVER"

Hello, hello everyone!! A warm welcome to everyone reading--I'm so glad you're here!!

WHEN: Tuesday, November 5th - Tuesday, November 12th

WHERE: I think you know us well enough by now!!

WHO: I'm sure you know most of us(don't worry--I'm not going to confuse you all like I did in June;)). In case you don't though, there's me, my nephew J, & my sister E. Besides us usual 3 Musketeers, E's husband/J's dad/my BIL joined us for the fun!! To keep confusion to a minimum for this TR I will refer to him as JSR.
562449274.jpeg

You could also call us "The Red Family". When E asked J what color MB he wanted he said that he wanted red & that we should all get that color so we could be "The Red Family". I know you can't see E's but trust me, her's was red also.

Looking forward to reliving "The Best Disney Trip EVER" with you all!!

Tuesday, November 5th

The plan was to leave E & JSR's at 7:00. I went to work for 5:30 to get a few last minute things done--also so that I could say to my boss that I was only off for 7 days, not 8. He teases me that "vacations are 7 days not 8". After doing some work & him teasing me a bit I was off on my merry way!! I got to their house only to find out that JSR was still packing!!:jawdrop: E was not thrilled in the least. He must have been close to being done though b/c we were only delayed a few minutes.

Then came the next delay. It was Election Day and E & JSR wanted to due their civic duty. I sat in the car with J & we talked Disney while we waited.
IMG_3046.JPEG

And, in typical Pittsburgh fashion, it was raining.
IMG_3048.JPEG

Rush hour traffic + heavy rain = a slow commute to the airport. I don't know what it is with this town but it seems like no one can drive in the rain around here. Trust me, we get more than our fair share of it so you think people would be used to it.
IMG_3050.JPEG

As we were waiting to check our luggage in the woman behind us noticed our luggage tags & said that she was going to Disney also and was staying at Caribbean Beach. She asked if this was our first time going which prompted JSR to throw in a few digs about us & the frequency of our trips. I think he's just jealous ;)
IMG_3051.JPEG

The Southwest agent was slower than molasses but after 10 minutes or so it was our turn.
IMG_3052.JPEG

JSR made fun of me all week b/c of this. I had two suitcases. The small one weighed 20 lbs & this one was 36.5. He kept saying, "How did you manage to bring 56 lbs. of clothes?" As it turned out, due to his last minute packing there were quite a few things that he forgot so I told him at least I didn't have that problem. He also told me not to tell E about what he had forgot b/c he didn't want to hear her say "I told you so".
IMG_3053.JPEG

E went to park the car while the J's & I proceeded to security. But wait, I couldn't go just yet. For whatever reason the Southwest agent left one of the suitcases behind. After unsuccessfully trying to get his attention for about 5 minutes I finally interrupted him & asked him to please put it on the belt. I was getting nervous that it would somehow get forgotten. He looked at me with a surprised look on his face & said he didn't notice it there. Really??

On the "monorail" we go!!

I went out to the balcony again to see what was going on.

What a great view! So cool to be able to watch Giraffes from your room! Makes not being at POR worth it!

My mind was made up--Red Jasper it was!! E & I both thought it was excellent!!

I'm putting this on my wine list! I do love red wine!

My favorites!! This is a special part of Christmas. My mom made all these stockings. It's hard to tell but there's about 30 of them up there(the dogs even got them over the years!!) She also made countless stockings for family & friends. I can't begin to imagine how many she did over the years!! She also made the ceramic figurines that are on the floor.

Thank you for sharing your Christmas pics. I can't imagine how much you all must miss your mom! What a wonderful surprise with her recipes in the kitchen for all of you! What a thoughtful gift from your sister! Those stockings are precious! I have a sparkly stocking with Santa, Rudoph and a Christmas Tree (decorated, of course) from a neighbor when I was 1 year old. The neighbor is long gone but it's such a sweet memory to have something meaningful from her! :angelic::angelic:

J is lookin' Dapper!

First off, how do I manage to break a nail while I'm sleeping?? I figured I would have to make a trip to the gift shop to buy a nail file but the Disney Vanity Kit saved the day!!

WOW! The Disney Vanity kit seems nice! What a perk of staying in a deluxe! Glad it saved you! Also, I'm the type that would break a nail while sleeping!

Thanks for sharing your Christmas photos. What an awesome gift you guys got! Very cool that your mother made those stockings as well as those ceramic figures! Looks like you guys had a nice Christmas. I’m also loving the popcorn bucket jokes! They just keep coming!
It is nice to have them all in one place & organized. My mom was very talented & made many things over the years. She also taught a ceramics class!! If I whip that bucket out when we go next month I think E will be ready to choke me(but I plan on doing it anyways!!) Should make for an interesting TR!!
Really enjoyed your family Christmas pictures. The cookbook was a wonderful idea. And my goodness -- all those stockings were hand made?! They're beautiful. Lastly, J looks very dapper all dressed up in his Christmas finest!
Thank you!! Yes--all handmade!! The brand of kits she would buy is called "Bucilla". They're all felt kits. We have many Christmas wall hangings & tree skirts that she made also! Over the last few weeks I can't believe how many family & friends have texted me pictures of their Christmas decorations hanging in their houses that my mom made for them!! I thought J looked pretty dapper also--thanks!!
Looks like you and your family had a fun Christmas gathering. The cookbook is the kind of meaningful gift that you'll get to treasure for many, many years. Thank you for sharing your Christmas pictures with us!

I keep my nails short-ish and paint them every once in a while, so why do I own an insane amount of nail polishes in every shade imaginable? Crazy, I know! I don't paint them when we go to WDW, for practical purposes. Glad the nail file saved the day (and night!).
I know we will all cherish it. A very good family friend is in town for the holidays now & when she heard about the cookbook she asked to see it so she could make copies of her favorite recipes!!

I keep my nails very short. I'm on the computer a ton & if they start getting too long they immediately start breaking. I get them done every 2 weeks & get them cut each time I go. I get the gel polish b/c it really doesn't chip & pretty much lasts the whole 2 weeks. I can understand not painting them when you go to WDW--esp. b/c you go for longer periods of time. I always get mine done the day before I leave to hopefully minimize the chance of them breaking while I'm there!!
You made my day!!!
And I loved the Christmas pictures/stories and how you are all remembering your Mother and keeping her spirit alive.
I promise the popcorn bucket will make an appearance(or two) in my next TR!! My sister may disown me but......

Thanks--it was tough but memories of her brought a lot of smiles that day(tears too).
Thanks for sharing your Christmas! The cookbook is awesome, but the framed recipe cards in your mom's hand writing brought a year to my eyes. So special to have this!
I knew she was making the cookbook but didn't know about the framed recipe cards. It definitely took me by surprise & something as simple as seeing her handwriting gets me choked up!!
Merry Christmas! Love all the Christmas pictures.
and in answer to your question about our health care system everything is free. All surgeries or procedures, visits to the dr, having a baby is all free. The only thing we pay for would be prescriptions but if you have insurance through your work than that would be covered. We are very lucky, it’s very Different from the states. With Ella’s diabetes we have never had pay a cent. They have a pump program where the government pays for all her supplies. However I do not know what happens if someone travels to Canada and needed medical treatment. We are so nice it would probably be free too lol
Kelly
Merry Christmas to you also!!
So, insurance is not a necessity like it is here then? Are prescriptions expensive without it? What stinks here is that it's very expensive(I pay $530.00 a month for the premium). Then there are still co-pays for prescriptions & doctors visits. There is also a deductible that has to be met each year. I have a very good plan(I have some medical issues & pretty much have to have a good one with the cost of my meds) & I still pay a ton. For example, to see a specialist I have a $70 co-pay. This year it was ONLY:arghh: $50 but now it's going up for next year. And along with that the premium & deductibles keep going up also. Then there's things they just won't flat out cover. I had a med that has cost me $300.00 a month for the last 10 years or so. They say it's not a covered drug & that's that. It's so aggravating.

My sister, M, has juvenile diabetes(she was diagnosed when she was 10--she's in her 40's now). She has the pump also & loves it but cringes when January rolls around b/c that starts the deductibles & copays all over again. With all the supplies she needs(as you well know) the first few months of the year are financially draining.
Just the paying part! Haha! $250US just to check in and then another 80 for a rapid influenza swab, 70 for a puffer, 50 for an antibiotic, and another 50 for a steroid. Came out to about $630 Canadian but thankfully my insurance reimbursed it all shortly after we got home. In Canada you just show up to any walk in clinic, urgent care, emergency, etc and you don’t pay a cent so the patient never knows what it all actually costs the system it’s all just “free”

Looks like you all had a great Christmas! That cookbook idea was fantastic! And SO much work I imagine.
Those prices(unfortunately) don't surprise me. They probably charge $20 for a band-aid!! I'm glad you got reimbursed. I'm sure those prices put you into sticker shock!!

I know my sister worked on that cookbook for a few months. I'm so grateful that she did it!!
Loved the framed recipes and the cook book was such a great gift! The photos of family enjoying the holiday were so neat, Merry Christmas!
It was a wonderful gift!! Having kids around definitely adds a lot of joy to the holidays!! Thank you & Merry Christmas to you also!!
Thank you for sharing the family Christmas photos. Love seeing a big family enjoying the holiday. And great idea from your sister on the recipe book
Thank you!! I'm glad you enjoyed seeing them!! That was quite a task--esp. trying to read some of the cards that have stains on them--it's hard to make out what was written!!

It was pretty cool!! Unfortunately, the next day there were next to no animals at all!!
I'm putting this on my wine list! I do love red wine!
It was very good!!

It saved me for sure b/c it would have just got worse if I didn't have a file. BTW--I packed that file in my toiletry bag so I'll be prepared in case it were to happen again!! Whew--I'm glad I'm not the only one!!

MONDAY, NOVEMBER 11TH

As I left my room I expected to see my TE notice hanging there but......
IMG_4303.JPEG

I decided to inquire about it when I got back later that day.

I walked through the lobby & headed to The Mara to meet the rest of the crew.
IMG_4304.JPEG

I am not a big breakfast person to say the least. I looked around & noticed this salad in the grab & go section. I decided to give it a whirl. It was absolutely amazing!! So, so good!! I took a picture of the ingredients so that the master chef that I am could find a recipe to see if I could duplicate it. Yeah--I tried but didn't come close. I'm not surprised though....
IMG_4306.JPEG

To the bus stop we went!
IMG_4307.JPEG

When we were at MK earlier in the trip this bus(don't know if it was the exact same one or not) was parked in the same spot. It went through my mind what J was going to say before he did & I was exactly right!! "Wow, that bus was there the other day when we were here!!" That kid has a heck of a memory!!
IMG_4308.JPEG

I just love this!!
IMG_4309.JPEG

This isn't too shabby either!!
IMG_4310.JPEG

We headed to my favorite area in MK for our first FP!!

But, to E's dismay this one did. Her exact words, "Great, we couldn't get out of this one". I don't know why she has such hatred for this ride.

Esp. b/c, as you can tell, her son has a blast on it!!

Unsolicited drug advice. These are things you likely have already tried but who knows- could save you or another reader some $.

Check on the drug company’s website. They may offer a patient assistance program. (Aka bribery money to keep you using one of their drugs and not a competitor’s.)

If your insurance doesn’t cover it at all- shop around. The cash price (the price of the drug w/o any insurance) can vary widely between pharmacies. Try a variety of pharmacy types- Costco/Sam’s Club and independent pharmacies especially.

You can call and ask for the cash price of a drug. Just make sure to know the strength and quantity you are looking for.

So most employers pay for the majority of the benefits which would be your prescriptions and dental. I think a pretty insignificant amount comes off of Matt’s cheque’s. Matt’s coverage is amazing we have 100% coverage on prescriptions. I honestly couldn’t even tell you how much her strips or insulin cost because it has always been paid for. I know we pay 300$ a month for her glucose monitor cause we pay out of pocket and then get reimbursed for that. And then her pump and all the supplies are given to us for free as long as we go to the dr 4X a year for blood work. It’s part of program that the government set up. Also no deductibles! We have always said there would be no way we could live in the states because of Ella!

I appreciate you trying to help me out here!!

So, here's the deal with this specific med. It's called dexilant. There is no generic for it. It is used to treat acid reflux. I have Barrett's Esophagus & this is the only med that works for me. My insurance company doesn't cover it & my doctor has wrote multiple letters to them over the years requesting them to cover it for me & they won't. In the beginning I was on their patient assistance program but I guess they only allow you to be on it for so long? All of a sudden(years ago) the pharmacy told me it was no longer good. I was really confused b/c I have ms & am on some seriously expensive meds for that. I have been on the patient assistance program for those meds since I was diagnosed & that's been 8 years!! My boss heard of this site called GoodRX.com & it claims to be able to save you money but I can't quite understand how it works. Right now the cheapest price I have found is $302.00 at CVS inside of Target. I'm actually going today to pick up a refill & I'm going to inquire about the "GoodRX" & see if it saves me anything. I already signed up online & got a card. I'll be sure to let you know what happens!!🤞

Wow--that is truly amazing!! My medical expenses are quite high--I'm jealous reading this!! For curiosity sake I'll have to ask my sister if she knows what the cost of some of her supplies are & I'll let you know. I find things like this very fascinating!! Besides her pump she now has this little disc-like thing on her arm that keeps track of her glucose levels. It's pretty neat but something was irritating her skin so they're testing out different patches that she has to keep on for a few weeks & they'll determine what will work best for her.

That seems a little odd that they would kick you out of that patient assistance program. I didn’t see anything about time limits on the website.

It might be worth it to try to register again with the PAP. Perhaps they will have “forgotten“ about you or perhaps your thing for that year expired and you just needed to re-enroll.

Prescription insurance/ coupon billing is bananas and some pharmacy employees are better it than others. It never hurts to politely ask for a retry.

I also have no idea how that GoodRX thing works but it’s worth a try as well.

I binged your TR all weekend when I found out you had another one up there and I'll tell ya, it was better than binging a new season of a favorite TV show!!! I love following along on your family trips to WDW. :) The video of R surprising JSR at POR was so fun to watch and I can't get over how big J got since your last TR with him!!! I'm glad you all branched out and tried AKL Jambo House for part of your stay which happens to be one of my favorite Disney resorts! I'm interested to find out if E and JSR decided to buy into DVC since the trip! We bought into it in 2013 and have enjoyed so many WDW trips because of it! It sounds like you have another WDW trip coming up soon. 🤗

Why they kicked me off I honestly don't remember. It was so long ago but here's what happened the other day. I had signed up for both GoodRX & the dexilant patient assistance program prior to going to Target. I asked the pharmacist how these worked & what would be the most beneficial for me. The patient assistance program works in conjunction with your insurance. Since my insurance doesn't cover it she told me it would cost me $247.00 if that was applied. With GoodRX my cost was $202.46!! I asked her to explain GoodRX to me b/c it didn't make sense to me how it worked. She said the price can change at any given point. So, what I paid the other day I may not be paying next month. They make their money from advertisers so that's how the consumer gets the savings. The only downside in her opinion is that they sell your info(obviously not the medical portion of it) which means the potential for telemarketer calls etc. That part kind of stinks & is a pain but for $100.00 savings a month I guess I'll take the good with the bad!!

Awww--thank you so much!! That is so sweet of you to say!! That is such a nice compliment--you made my day!!:inlove: JSR was pretty surprised so that definitely was a highlight of the trip!! AKL was really nice & I'm glad we stayed there. Jiko was amazing & I really can't wait to eat there again!! They did not end up buying into DVC. They both were going back & forth for quite awhile on it so who knows, maybe one of these days they will do it!! We have a short trip in January coming up--17 days to be exact--yay!! I can't wait!!
I love how your Tragic Express didn't come! If only that meant an extra day for you@ :banghead:o_O:cry:
If only!!! I'm not surprised there was an issue & wait until you hear how they blamed me & said it was my fault!!😤
The 😲 from me.......you don’t own a nail file??!!!
Nope!! I keep my nails so short that I really don't have a need for one. And(like a lot of things in the kitchen) I really don't know how to use them well!! It's also kind of like me & ironing. The clothes look worse after I iron--that is my nails after attempting to use the file!!:hilarious:
Hey, at least I recognize my weaknesses!!

Thanks for the update, I looked up the price around here with goodRX and it was $202 around here... so I'm glad you were able to get that. The only drawback, that I can see for some is that the $202 would not go against your deductible on your insurance.

I totally agree!! Speaking of deductibles, I have eczema & it really starting flaring up the other day. I couldn't find my cream so I hurriedly called my doctor yesterday so they could call me in a prescription before Jan 1!!
