Yes, most of the AAs and props are below the theatre on the `War Wagon` - a platform on wheels that rolls back and forth under the stage and audience to deliever the right set at the right time. 65 ft across and weighing 175 tonnes you can just about hear a faint rumble between the quietest scenes as it rolls into place. Amazing. At 300ft, the foundations for it actually go down almost 100ft further than those for SSE.

Anyone have pictures? I've been wanting to see what that thing looks like for decades now and have come up empty in the many searches I've done.

I've always loved this attraction...especially "Two Brothers".

My last visit was odd though because the Golden Dreams movie at the end had Tiger Woods in it, and this was during the height of his scandal, so the audience reaction of muffled laughs was surprising.

Hmm, makes me wonder if it will be quietly changed soon....

Yes, we were there in December and many kind of gasped and laughed.

I thought about that too when I last saw it, no laughing in the theatre though.

I also didn't notice the soldiers breathing, but I'll have to look for that next time.

Martin are you aware of the differences between the two versions?

I am, but Martin knows more. The music was changed in 94 and in 2007 I believe and more current images were added to the montage...Like 9/11 and the Columbia Astronauts, I THINK.

I actually knew about those too, but I was wondering if there were any script or show scene changes at the time like what they did with HoP.

Anyone got a copy of the script for this attraction?

I'm interested in specifically what Frederick Douglass says, but the whole
script would be interesting to read.

That Youtube vid - if it is the one I think it is - should show the wagon in action. If not then I do have pictures.

The main versions were 1982 and 1993. The only script changes were made to the finale film, which was pretty much remade from scratch in 1993. The 2007 refurb just added extra composites and of course another new finale film score.

In 1993 virtually every AA was replaced for an A100 version with full compliance, pretty much like what happened to SSE in 2007.

Quite a few years ago I did an edit of the original 1982 version you may want to see:

Don`t laugh - it was one of my first full length edit attempts. As well as a full multi angle show, it also includes footage of the war wagon in action from my better quality copy of the TV special, and a side by side comparisson of the original and 1993 AAs. If they`d relax the blanket camera ban I`d reshoot the present version.

I love the AA! I try to watch it once a trip. I wanted to watch it twice this time, but I'm almost sure its closed for emh. But I really enjoy it, and love everything about it. It's a great place for a nap too.

Is there another video you are referring to other than the one you posted? I would love to see the "war wagon" as you call it (is that it's official name?) in action a little longer than what can be seen in that video. And could you please post those photos you have of it? I'd like to see those, if you don't mind.

The only video I know in circulation of the war wagon is the `Backstage American Adventure` video linked above. However, I now see it is not the full program. Obviously this is a backstage area showing secrets and so only official footage is in general circulation. I have some more somewhere that isn`t in a presentable form yet.

I do have some pics I can share though; the first is looking down into part of the wagon. Note how the scenery and AAs are positioned for space and show order. The second and last are looking back from where the screen would be into the theatre. You can see how the seating is actually above the basement. The third photo shows a lot of the war wagon; you can see the scale of it well, and the 4th pic was during show programming - note Valley Forge, Will Rogers and the Expo backdorp are all in place at the same time.

From the last picture, you can also see there isn`t actually any stage as such. The individual stage pieces raise and lower on hydraulic platforms and float in space, separate to the other set pieces. Most of the sets that look solid have no floors to them either.

Martin,

Do you remember the site you got those pics from? I have those, as well as additional ones, that I got off a site where someone working on the construction of EPCOT had posted their experiences and all these photos.

I don't need no stinking script!

"Even here amidst the cricket's song along Mark Twain's beloved Mississippi, I hear the noise of chains...and the crack of the whip...Yet, there is hope...Hope born in the words of Harriet Beecher Stowe. Uncle Tom's Cabin, has given our nation a key...which can unlock the slave prison to MILLIONS.... Anti-Slavery, is no longer a thing to be PREVENTED. It has grown too ABUNDANT, to be snuffed out...like...a...lantern..."

"TROUBLEMAKERS LIKE DOUGLAS GOT US INTO THIS MESS!"

"We only wanted Freedom...not WAR."

"WELL WELL...Listen to my ABOLITIONIST brother. Pa, he's gonna' make a real good PHILLY YANK."

"We got a good cause, Johnny Rev!"

"Quiet now, both of you! You're gonna' ruin Ma's Birthday!"

-swoons-

"No No...Ain't NUTHIN' gonna' ruin today...We're all TOGETHER...THAT'S what counts....Now...you go ahead Mr. Brady."

"Alright everybody...hold REAL still now..."

-WHOOSH-
