The Amazing Race: Season 14

Are these two the most penalized team in the history of TAR? Did they change the rules about bartering goods for services? Last season, didn't the frat boys give a cab driver their shoes?
You know what, you're right, they did...and I don't remember them being punished.

Maybe it was because both money and goods exchanged hands at the same time?

If I remember correctly, they tried to give up their shoes and the guy wouldn't take them.

According to other Amazing Race boards, the difference seems to be that the brothers were trying to barter with items they brought with them from home and the two frat guys were offering shoes they bought while on the race. It does seem to be a new rule though unless they've just never had a reason to bring it up before.

I understand why the rule is in place. Teams are given the same amount of money at the start of each leg so that it is a level playing field. Trading something you purchased while on the race makes sense, because the item came from that money. If you were allowed to barter with items you brought from home, every team would bring various expensive "personal" jewelry, and this would give an unfair advantage to the wealthier teams.

The brothers make a lot of mistakes and are now in last place with a speed bump ahead of them. They're three hours behind to start, but that could be easily wiped out with an airline departure bunch-up (first team leaves the mat at 10:00pm, and the the first flight out isn't until 8:00am the next morning).

That's what I was thinking, or it's a "no fly" week and they get to the next clue box location, but they don't open til the next morning. If the brothers get past this week and somehow make the top three, this is how the last episode ends......

"Mark and Michael, after 19,000 miles and ten different countries, you're the first team to arrive. But, you killed a cab driver instead of paying him, you traded your shoes for crystal meth, and ran over Tammy and Victor with your Segways. For this you have to serve a three day penalty and possible jail time. Please step off the mat and wait to the side until your penalty days are complete."

That's pretty cool, MrsBee! If I ever met Phil, I'd bring a videocamera and beg him to let me film him checking-in my wife and I ("You are the first team to arrive!"). Yeah, we're complete reality TV geeks. :p

Wow. This is a new one for me. Losing because you had to go to the bathroom. Jen has got to feel so bad. They knew that Cara was eating the food quickly and making up time like crazy. Jen should have either held it or wet herself. Yeah, the latter option would've been embarrassing and uncomfortable, but there's a huge prize difference in fourth place and first place.

Victor and Tammy took full advantage of their language skills on this leg. When Phil explained the Detour, it was easy to determine which one they'd choose. They gained a big lead after that.

I'm not rooting for anyone in the finale next week. I'm just rooting for a really close finish. I don't know if we'll ever have a finish like in the 2nd season, but it would be so incredibly cool if we did.

I'm thinking she had to do more than just ______ or else why not hold it for 5 extra minutes. Tonight was a good episode and I was glad to see them go.

Hi all ...I'm new to this thread but not to the show. We watch AR every Sunday night! Love it!

I can't believe Jen & Keisha got eliminated because she had to go to the bathroom!
I think I wouldn't gone on myself if it was a matter of seconds between me and a million dollars.

Tammy & Victor's knowledge of the language helped them tremendously. Good for them.

I also am not rooting for any team in particular...I like all 3 of them.
