The 60th Anniversary of Disneyland: The Reality of it All

I'm going to just come right out and say it, I'm JEALOUS of all you Disneyland folks! :D This celebration, and all the offerings, looks just amazing (of course anything is amazing compared to what we've gotten at WDW lately). I won't be able to make it out for the festivites in 2015, but you can bet I am saving like crazy to get out next year!

As a native Californian I spent a few decades living on the East Coast, and I was always pining for Southern California, and nothing is more SoCal than Disneyland. Especially in summer, when the East Coast is sweaty and sticky and drippy, but SoCal is epitomized by a warm golden day followed by a clear and starry night at Disneyland with dancing and parades and fireworks and sheer magic. Disneyland's 60th Diamond Celebration seems to promise a fabulous array of attractions and entertainment and décor that will make the Summer of '15 one to remember.

The good news for you is that the Diamond Celebration will continue into 2016, so whenever you can make it out here there should be fun times waiting for you.

And obviously, Paint The Night is a relaunch of the 1972 Main Street Electrical Parade that is aimed at a new generation living in a new century, and it will be with us for many years to come. I think Paint The Night will be the Diamond Celebration's nicest gift to the future.

The 60th is almost on the level of the 50th...almost. I have to admit, I wasn't expecting all of what's to come. I didn't think we'd see a celebration like this again until the 75th. I was clearly wrong.

Just a little more than a month left.

As I won't be able to come this year to Anaheim how long do you think all parades etc will stay? Surely most of 2016 too?

The 60th celebration should last well into 2016. Harry Potter hits Hollywood in 2016 and I’m sure Disney will extend the official celebration to counter all of the Potter hype. Likely it will end after summer 2016. Officially all they have said is that it will last into 2016.

The parade and fireworks should outlast the celebration. The 50th fireworks show lasted 10 years and parades usually last a while. If MSEP is any indication, PTN should be strolling down Main St, for a long time.

^ except for the opening and finale which features Walt and the orange groves.

MousePlanet posted their own write-up of the show and it includes a few extra details. In addition to a volcano, The matterhorn will also transfom into elsa's ice palace. Also good to know that fantasmic mist screens will be used for the show. Lots of fun details, should be an awesome show!

I don't know about that. Alice has already been used in firework shows at Disneyland, A Very Merry Unbirthday in "Believe There's Magic In The Stars".

It's been used before, usually in a medley, but it's not really a score that supports a whole segment - especially when the other choices available are so strong (like the ones chosen for Disneyland Forever).

Not really 60th related but interesting. From Mouseplanet:

"Walt Disney Imagineering is placing a temporary construction office trailer behind Hollywood Land, according to a building permit filed with the city of Anaheim. I can only speculate that this indicates WDI is either setting up shop for the long-awaited Hollywood Land overhaul, or has decided to locate their Tomorrowland headquarters across the Esplanade."

Well since nothing's going on in Tomorrowland for the foreseeable future this is likely for the Marvel Studios expansion.

I'm curious how Cinderella and Rapunzel will be added to Belles unit.. Based on the hkdl unit there doesn't look like that much room between Belle and the big image screen?
It would be awesome if they had Cinderella standing behind Belle with her dress swirling and sparkling with lights (similar to Dreamlights) and then have Rapunzels hair glow :).

The princess unit will be configured differently for DLR. Imagine each of the princesses having their own space in succession rather then all 3 crowded onto the existing Belle space - at least that's what I was told.
