Trip Report The “Cruising is not for me” Surf n’ Turf Spring Break Shenanigans Trip Report *Completed*

All the who’s and what’s can be read over here:

The Cliff’s Notes version is that we took our annual spring trip but for the first time it would be during Spring Break week. The trip also marked the first time the DD would be going on a cruise, something the DW and I couldn’t wait for her to experience. Another first would be our crew experiencing the Poly, super excited about this too! So, without further ado, let’s get this party started!

Wednesday:
We still had to get through the work day before we embarked on the trip which included me teaching my 5:30 computer ethics class and the DW’s Jazzercise class. I picked her and the DD up at 7:00 right after swinging by Zaxsby’s for some to-go chow. We were on the road by 7:20 and heading down GA400 towards Macon for our overnight pit stop. We pulled into Macon around 930-9:45 and checked into the La Quinta inn. The hotel served it’s purpose, a place to sleep part way to the bubble. The DW and I knocked out some grading before calling it a night by 11:30.

Thursday:
So the alarm was set for 5:30 but La Quinta had other plans… About 4:00-4:30 the smoke alarm in the room began chirping..you know that chirp, the one that says “hey, the battery is dying, change it”. Only problem is there is no taking this smoke detector down and replacing the battery. This meant every two minutes or so the detector would chirp. Good luck sleeping through that! So we were up and put La Quinta behind us before 5:00! The good news was that we would be to Disney that much earlier the bad news was that NOTHING drive-thru was open for breakfast yet! So we drove a short while and made a pit stop at a Walmart to pick up some things we forgot, something we’ve gotten quite good at lately; forgetting. By the time we left The Marts McDs was open! So we grabbed some quick food and made for the bubble! About 3 hours of uneventful driving later and we hit our first sign of hope!

About two more hours later and we were there! Don’t let the clouds in the pic fool you the weather was GREAT!
20160331_102413.jpg

Soon we were pulling into the Poly’s parking lot. It was WARM! I checked in with the front desk but our room was not ready, they’d text when it was. We decided to check out the grounds a bit and hang at the pool.

With that I decided to relax at the pool for a bit since I still had some classwork to deal with while the ladies branched out for some food.

Soon, the ladies were texting me to come over to the DVC pool as it was quiet and had some good looking food options. It was pretty beautiful over there for sure too.
20160331_122548.jpg

DD went with the kid’s Hawaiian burger
20160331_121927.jpg

DW went with the kid’s fish taco
20160331_121921.jpg

I went with the pork sliders

The food was excellent, especially for a pool side snack shack! So we relaxed here a bit longer before the ladies took to exploring the Poly and GF some until our room became available.

Still to come: An amazing standard view room and The Grand Floridian Café.

Glad to see you liked Enchanted Garden; that's the one we skipped too for Palo, so I'm eager to have it back in our rotation this December when we cruise again. I love mushrooms, so I'm sure I will have to try that tart :)

So with the DD heading off to the teen club, Mom and Dad were heading to Evolution for Match your Mate. On the way there we had to stop at Pub 687 to try the Disney Dream exclusive beer, conveniently named 687. I had neglected to try it on the previous cruise so I made it a point to get it this go around. My notes indicate that it tasted like a weak IPA and I rated it a 2/5. Im not a fan of IPAs in general but the trip to 687 was not a total loss as I saw the beer offering here and it was outstanding! Couldn’t wait to come back to try the others.

So with my mug of 687 in hand we walked over to Evolution for Match your Mate, think newlywed game. We had done this experience in the past and had a really good time and this go around would be no different. The fun thing about this game is you really never know what they are going to say and sometimes you get shocked! They picked our three couples of varying lengths of marriage from just a few months to about 30 years. Like the newlywed game, they separate the spouses and ask questions and see how well things match up. This had to be the most dysfunction MYM we have ever seen! I’m not sure if it was a product of the people they selected, how intoxicated they were or both but here is a rough count of words we heard:
The “C word” 3 times
The “S word” lost count
The “B word” lost count
Some phrases we heard:
“Don’t $4!t where you eat
When asking the WIFE of the couple married for 33 years about their first “whoopie” experience she said, and I quote:
“I R***ed him! He had such a great @$$”
Im pretty sure this is an accurate representation of the DW and myself the whole night!

Anyway, Howard Stern would have been proud of this showcase and after a few rounds the "winners" were decided and we made our way back to the stateroom to clean out our ears.

After a great night of sleep we woke well before making port at Nassau and decided to make for Cabanas for breakfast. The ocean and skies were so beautiful this morning. Seemed like we were racing Carnival to port too.

So moving on, we were still in our approach to Nassau. It’s a pretty cool feeling when the bout approaches, stops, and spins 180 degrees to back in to port!

I am laughing at your "Match Your Mate" experience. Did you have "Jamezy" as the MC? Some people get really raunchy! LOL There was this one couple who did the tired Newlywed Game trope of "That'd be in the butt." But some of things people say--it's stuff I would take to the grave.
We had Jamezy in October but on this cruise we had a new MC, cant recall his name now, who was good but probably not as energetic as his counterpart.

Continuing on, here we see that the Carnival ship that was tracking us earlier in the morning was about to make port. Same process as the Dream; pull in, rotate, and back it up.

After all that excitement…The DW and I decided to head to Senses to make good on our day pass for Rain Forest. For me, I’ve never had any interest in getting off at Nassau to explore and look forward to the boat clearing out and relaxing on this day. The DW might have some but she hasn’t really pushed the idea. But we are talking about Rain Forest now. A day pass at RF may be the best $12 you spend on the cruise. Basically you have all day to make use of all their bathing showers(fully stocked with soaps, conditioners, shaving gear, and lotions), relaxation showers, three saunas, heated lounge chairs, and two private hot tubs. You also get very comfy robes to use while you there. You get to come and go as you please all day long which is really nice if your stateroom has a few ladies that like to take their time getting ready for anything ;-). Rain Forest sits inside Senses spa which offers an array of spa treatments and services and includes a juice bar with a pretty high tech menu!

So after a few hours of relaxing at Rain Forest it was time for lunch. If there is one thing you learn while on a cruise it’s that you’re never hungry because there always seem to be food…everywhere. We were still a little full from breakfast so we shared some pizza and some other bits
20160402_122951.jpg

Here was our view during lunch:

DD decided she wanted some Vanellope’s for dessert so the DW went with her to get some ice-cream .
20160402_124837.jpg

I popped into the restroom for a pit stop and couldn’t resist taking a pic.
20160402_124747.jpg

So after lunch we made for our stateroom for a short rest before heading back to the Aquaduck. When we returned we found our pirate attire was waiting on us.
20160402_125246.jpg

After a short break we made for the Aquaduck. One benefit of skipping Nassau is shorter lines for the ride!

We parted with the DD after the Aquaduck, she decided to head back to the stateroom for more Disney movies on demand (go figure) while the DW and I made for the adult pool for a while. Along the way we noted the Dream crew performing some maintenance.
20160402_134203.jpg

It was mid-afternoon and between the sun, food, and Castaway Cocktails we needed a little jolt for the mixology class we had coming up. Since Cove Café was right there at the pool we hopped in for some caffeine. They had this really cool, no pun intended, cold brew tower:
20160402_140929.jpg

They had a nice variety of treats to choose from that we were eyeballing until we realized our drinks came with chocolate dipped biscuits. The drinks were FANTASTIC and really hit the spot.

After our infusion of caffeine we made for Rain Forrest again for a shower before heading off to our mixology class.

Still to come: Mixology, Palo, and Castaway!!
