That Blasted American Gardens Theater

The thread about the Seven Seas Lagoon got me thinking about what I dislike in WDW. And one GLARING thing that tends to annoy me is the American Gardens Theater.

I mean, I know it comes in handy for things like summer conerts and the Candle Light Processional... but for most of the year, it's just kind of annoying. They have potentially the BEST view in all of Epcot destroyed by an amphitheater that is only used so many months out of the year. I think they should build a walkway around the back and relocate the Golden Dreams boat so that you can have that view... or something.

Maybe I'm alone in this

I think adding a walkway behind the American Gardens Theater is the best solution. While the theater is used seasonally, adding the walkway would allow the venue to remain with the bonus of having a great view of Spaceship Earth from America. With the exception of the old Millenium Village building, I can't think of a place in Epcot where the concerts and Candelight Processional could be held without clogging walking paths.

I agree. I've also yet to see anything in the American Gardens Theater that was actually worth seeing.

I do agree that the view would be great. However, I do like the theater. I think having a colapsable stage or clamshell so it could be used for Illuminations seating would be great. I actually think they could use this for the Illuminations dining package and sell the seats up front (then fill in with open seats).

I do have to say that Shockwave was a fantastic show, so there are worthwhile things in the theater!

Well it's important for the Lighting Design of the show, espically Candlelight. It was at one time an open theatre without a back wall to it. However it was changed to accomidate for more show effects and a backstage area. If a path were to be built, it would still be closed off during the shows, as it would be needed for show operations. Besides, having people walk down the open sides would be a distraction. I enjoy the venue, and although the view would be great, it won't change.

With all due respect, then don't use them. Smaller plans like this are available year round with various things. They are not on the scale of the free dining plan, so I guess I don't see the problem. The Candlelight packages, Fantasmic! packages, etc. are popular, but they don't really bog down the restaurants at all. Having an Illuminations:ROE package would be the same way.

Also, I do agree that the backstage area is somewhat needed. Also, a pathway around the back would potentially put it too close to the pyro. I don't know the distance, but it might be too close to the center.

Thanks for saying what I've been thinking for years...but, then again, Disney has this penchant for blocking the view of beautiful buildings...ahem, that stupid HAT! :lookaroun

Ya well at least the back of the theatre looks like the front of the building when viewed head-on. They could have just made it an ugly wall with a charactor painting .

What makes me mad is that all day you can walk down around the international gateway and out infront of Italy. Than when its time for Illuminations they close it off for private parties. Those are IMO the best views of the show. I know they pay dearly for that its not fair to the paying park visitors. We saw one night at christmas they had the area infront of italy closed off, it was freeezing (literally like 33 degrees) and they had about 3 tables piled high with blankets and even those outdoor heaters up there. In that whole area there was only like 10 people up there and thay werent even watching for the most part. They were enjoying their wine and talking, I dont know how but they were. All this while everyone else was standing 10 deep looking over everyones elses shoulders. Same thing at MK where they close off the area near Tomorrowland Terrace. They have actually came and told us we had to leave then we watched wishes from behind the rope all along the tables were empty. The cm said that they have to have the area ready incase I think it was AAA people came.
