I will add my thanks to all that wrote in, all of the artists, and also the managers who made this decision. (!)

Although I do not know to what extent D-Troops helped, I am confident that Disney listened to those of you who called and wrote in expressing your concern. :)

So please, contact Disney and thank them for making this decision!

WONDERFUL NEWS!!! I am SO very HAPPY!!!!!!

Huge thanks to everyone who let there voice be heard...today is indeed a grand day that "Magic" triumped over "Figures"!! What a wonderful "Victory" for us all....and for the future generations who will be visiting the park in the future. I was so very dissapointed and at the same time utterly enraged at the shortsightedness and blanant lack of vision being expressed by this horrid act of removing Disney Artists. THIS is what Disney has always been about for me...ART in all it's glorious forms. I for one am relived that at least these artisits will be around a while longer to bring their special magical and unique touch to everyone that visits them in the coming months at MGM.

Congratulations to everyone involved, Guests, the Artists themselves, there supporters , and those who still have a fierce desire to "Preserve the Magic". You ALL made a difference today! And of course, thanks to The General, D-Troops, and it's supporters for sounding the "rallying call" to arms that no doubt helped to contribute to this stunning turnaround at Disney management. One voice has the power to make change, as that voice can inspire others to do the same...and today proves it!

A very happy person here tonight....The MAGIC will indeed LIVE ON!!!

So what does this mean, exactly? Just before the news broke of their removal, the only animator to be seen during the tour was one lonely guy sitting in the middle of a room while most everyone just walked awkwardly by.

Are they going to be more prominent now, or is it going to be like that? If it's going to be back to that one lonely guy, I don't really see the point.

The artist that does the initial show with Musu has been replaced with a cast member however the person that shows you how to draw a Disney character will be a Disney artist. So there is no cast member tracing pretending to be an artist. Guests can still talk to a real Disney artist and they can continue to create magic just as before. The good guys finally won one.

Right.

The artists were originally going to be replaced by tracers who didn't have an artistic background (to save money). Thankfully, management changed its decision. :)

This is how it was just before the announcement of their removal though, right? I had done the tour a couple of times during that period, and no one seemed interested in talking to the artist, even though he was placed (oddly) in the middle of the room. On one of those visits, the artist himself seemed to be content talking with a friend of his while people walked by.

Of course, I'd rather have an animator there than not, and it's great to see the decision reversed. I just don't think it's all that big a deal if all they're going to do with the animators is have them sit at a small desk in a room as people walk by.

Edit: I guess we're talking about the Animation Academy portion, then? In that case, I'm a bit more pleased. I was thinking of the guy they had in the room that used to use those neat LCD windows to show the interior of the animation building.

I guess it kind of depends on the day you go. I have been and no one has talked to them and other times you would think it was a Mickey Mouse meet and greet.

So exactly how many people does this affect? How many are going to retain their current positions? Were there any compromises that had to be made in order to make this happen?

The only one I was aware of is that the animators have to take a small pay cut. But they were glad to do so if it meant staying on as a Disney animator and interacting with hundreds of potential animators who only need that little spark. :)

I had done the Animator's Academy and stopped by to thank the young lady who was my lead animator as I drew a very cute version of Stitch!!! She thought it was pretty good as well. I am glad the animator's finally won one!!!!!!!! Belle
