Test Track Sponsorship

I think as long as GM/Chevy are willing to put up the money for it they will continue to be the sponsor. Disney has no problem adding sponsors to rides like recently having Ziploc sponsor Splash Mountain, and it's been a good thing too. Back when most of the rides had some type of sponsor they were better maintained and updated with that extra sponsor money, like Space Mt. and Carousel of Progress back in the day. Test Track is one of the few decent rides in Future World, that still fits the original concept of Future World and doesn't have any cartoon/comic book characters all over it, I hope it stays the way it is

The old version was much more like the build and testing process. I'm not a fan of the new version either. Who knows how long GM will continue to sponsor the ride but I don't see it ending anytime soon. GM has a small reception area inside where employees can get a beverage and rest before going on the ride. Test Track is one of the most popular ride at Epcot so I don't see it going away either.

At least it doesn't reek and choke you from carbon dioxide poisioning

It's carbon Monoxide...not dioxide...and with the announcement last week that GM is going to follow the lead of Ford and with the exception of the Cadillac, Camaro and the Vette, they're getting out of the car business and emphasizing SUV's, I think an update will be sooner, rather than later.

GM has been a sponsor of Disney and the old World's Fairs going back decades.
I wish they had left Test Track the way it was because the "new" design your own concept really isn't.
And don't forget the Minnie Vans.
Keep in mind that the Mary Barra who is closing GM factories as the "car industry is returning" is the same Mary Barra who is on the
Disney Board of Directors. Mary was brought up through GM to smooth things over when they knowingly continued to allow cars on the road with faulty ignition switches where about 40 people died because of that.
She's done a fairly good job keeping them afloat, however..........................
People who lived where the new "Volt" factory was built are up in arms because now it is closing.

I wonder how GM is notifying customers like the Trackers on how to continue vehicle servicing. Their cars that are being discontinued, especially the electrics, now have little resale value. Harkens back to the EV-1.
This is why many say the "G" in GM stands for Government Motors.

I hate myself for mentioning this, but Disney could easily overlay a Cars testing facility.

We even have some concept-art

I have a question regarding making your car if someone could answer. If you zip over to test track first thing in the morning and are one of the first riders, do you still make a car or do they have you just keep going to the load area for the ride?
Everytime I went there was so many people that you cant stop to make your car. And on ropedrop you dont stop to make it either

Go in through the exit and use one of the 3 workstations there. You can take your time, get the design you want, and then use it throughout the attraction. I do it every time and then get in the single rider line - the best of all worlds!

Where is this from? Is this actual concept art for a Cars overlay to Test Track that never happened? Or is it fan art? Not that I want it to happen, but I could see them putting a Cars ride in Test Track at some point. It wouldn't be surprising considering Chapek wants more IP in EPCOT.

Also, the story on the new Test Track is lousy. I miss when you used to go in for the "crash test", but now it's just a door that opens up for no reason before the fast part.
Its concept art for Cars 3 MOVIE. nothing to do with TestTrack but I found them really interesting for this post as you can easily imagine something like that going on TestTrack

BTW, in original World in Motion (for what I have see, please let me know if Its ok) you ride the car outside the building and it went up on a spiral ramp to the rest of the ride?? it was more like a peoplemover?
