Test Track Sponsorship

They took a unique ride and placed a half *** video game that only works half the time on top of it. Stuck some black lights and video screens on the track to make it look like you are in a computer which is not believable at all. It’s stale and old after the first ride. The queue for the first ride was worse but the ride it self is hands down better from design, story telling and execution. Aweful overlay.
Being in a 90’s garage/ warehouse wasn’t exactly unique. A sleek sliver design studio fits future world far better.

Agree 100%. It's terrible. The original had so much more charm and far better aesthetics. I would ride the original once a trip for sure, don't care if I ever ride 2.0 again. One of the laziest, most creatively bankrupt updates they've ever done.

I have a question regarding making your car if someone could answer. If you zip over to test track first thing in the morning and are one of the first riders, do you still make a car or do they have you just keep going to the load area for the ride?

Since the new ride can be different every time it is unique and new every time. The old ride was old as soon as you rode it once.

I much prefer the old ride. With that said this is one ride that I wish would change again. Since the taxpayer bail out I have no wish to see anything GM.

Your referring to the video game that doesn’t work half the time? If that is the bar for unique we are in trouble. Most mobile phones have more technology than that design a car system. I would rather re ride the original due to the quality of overall attraction, than the new one due to a gimmick.

Actually, I think most of the in-ride illumination is electroluminescent panels and ribbons.

No
Disney should replace the entire track with a street and replace the cars with new Tesla Roadsters and have a CM do a pedal-to-the-metal run at least once or twice.

The car creation process is the whole reason I go on the ride. The first test track was so boring, I went once and never again. The new one is a must do multiple times as we come up with more stupid ideas for the crazy car we want.
Again, I wouldn't have a problem with it if the car you designed actually made it to the track and you understand how well it did.

So many times, it doesn't work right and you're left confused how the computers arrived at the result they did. You basically zoom past all the rankings, the onboard screen doesn't work half the time, and the screens in the ride are barely visible. It's very rushed. You learn nothing because your design elements aren't explained as to why they performed in a positive or negative way.

I've been on the "new" version a handful of times now. Such a waste of a revamp. The original was so much better.

But Disney is never going to turn down sponsorship money, and if GM is happy with what's there, then they'll keep it. I don't know the terms of the contract, but they're not going to change it without money from the outside sponsor to change it. And at this point I don't know if they'd be able to pick up another sponsor willing to fork out the huge funds needed to give it a proper overhaul. Even this one was really pretty much done on the cheap, with almost all of the indoor theming being scrapped and replaced with an onboard video system that doesn't work well.

Unrelated, but I watch your Youtube videos from time to time keep it up. I like the behind the scenes from the eyes of a former CM. Yes, I have subscribed before your ask ;).

I'm not arguing which was better, everyone has their own opinion. You stated the new ride was one and done because it was stale when it's very nature makes each ride unique. You can hate the ride but there is definitely more variety in the new version.

The original actually taught you about vehicle testing with ABS, suspension, and performance testing. Very apropo for EPCOT.

The new ride is basically a dark room with neon lights and a poorly executed "test" of your design. It simply doesn't flow like a Disney "story" should.

Exactly. I'm not all that into cars, but my assumption is there is still closed-course road testing done in real-world environments instead of in some nebulous quasi-Tron forest of neon and cheap cutouts (that already looks far more dated than the original to me).

The new ride has no sense of place. At all.
