Terrible Experience at AoA

My husband and I stayed at AoA for 5 nights from October 22-27. I was super excited about the new resort, but that excitement was short lived. We were in the Little Mermaid rooms since it was just the two of us. The first night we both woke ups sweating our butts off, despite the AC saying 68 degrees. The air wasnt even running. So the next morning while I was at the main building filling my mugs I stopped by the lobby and told the woman at the concierge desk. She said that maintenance would come out. So off we went to the parks. Well the second night, it was so hot that I actually got into the other bed. So here we are sleeping in separate beds so that we wouldnt be stuck to each other. Separate beds on what we were considering our honeymoon! So once again, I made trek to the lobby and spoke to two more women. The higher up lady said she would send maintenance again and that they would look into switching up to a different room. Well we never got switched. The air still sucked. It really was the pits. Also, not to mention that walls are soooo thin that I could literally hear every single word that the family next door said. It was awful. I have stayed in Pop, Music, and Movies... never have I had such an awful experience.

I'm normally not a complainer. Just had to vent, thanks for listening.

Sorry to hear that. I never had a bad experience in values, but they really messed up with the walls if you could hear the next room.

Woof! Sorry to hear about that.
We just stayed there in July in the Cars section and had no problems with either.
If anything, there were occasional small battles over the thermostat 'cause I was told I was keeping it too cold in the room, but that is always the case at home, too.
I'm pretty sure there have only been 3 times that DW and myself have ever agreed on thermostat settings...when she was expecting our 3 kiddos.

I would have demanded a new room after the first night with no A/C. Two nights with no A/C I would have demanded a new resort.
Do you freelance, lol? I hate arguing with companies and customer service peeps.

Next time Disney screws us over (which doesn't happen a lot, but does on occasion - like not getting the water view I paid for) I'll pay you and you can fight with WDW for me, lol. Like a lawyer. :D

People who are good at fighting and demanding really should hire these services out to people who hate to do it...especially people who are on vacation!

that's miserable. for all my years in food service, i find it hard to complain at any service related issue. if it must be addressed i do my best to be as nice about it as possible. hopefully something like this won't happen again. also, while you're staying at a 'value' resort, you're not staying there for nothing either, so push through and speak up next time. you pay money that you earned to stay there. i shudder at being somewhere hot with the AC out having had some bad experiences with that. i hope really hope on future visits that no issues like this arise.

I would definitely bring that to "higher up's" OP!!

I mean...the AC in my room was one of the MAIN things I looked forward to at the end of the day, besides a shower! To have my AC gone?? Oh heck no! Plus, I can not sleep when Im hot...I have a fan in my room constantly on me, even in winter...lol

I would be very upset about the lack of a resolution provided or any attempt to 'make it right'

Exactly.

Not to be harsh on the OP, but when I read stories like this, I almost have a hard time believing it's true. Whenever I have had any issue at any Disney Resort, they always solve it. If it's not solved, it sounds more like the OP being passive aggressive than anything else.

I don't like to fight and am not demanding, but if something is wrong and I'm paying for it, I'm going to make sure it's fixed ASAP. None of this, we'll send someone down in the morning crap. Fix it now or just get me a new room.

Maybe it has something to do with The Little Mermaid rooms being the buildings that stood unfinished for 10 years before AoA got off the ground?
That would not have anything to do with it. The basic shell of the buildings were up but nothing else was done. The AC units were not installed until construction resumed. It is more than likely just a bad AC unit.

I am so sorry! There is nothing worse than not being able to sleep after a long day! :(

Maybe next time instead of thinking of it as being aggressive for yourself, you can think of it as being helpful for the next guest? If they had fixed it while you were there, then the next people to check in would have had no issues. ;)

Hope you had a great time otherwise!

agreed. I am so sorry that you had a bad expereince. No A/C working in a FL hotel room is NOT a pleasant thing.

We normally stay in Values or moderates and notice that you can hear things like the toilet flush above us and what not lol I just hope to never be stuck next to a new born baby in a value resort room. I don't know if I could handle that.

Disney is actually really great about this stuff, i think if you had requested another room it wouldnt have been an issue at all. Im actually surprised they didnt offer you one on their own. I had an issue once with a golf voucher that was like $15, they BARELY inconvenienced me, and i didnt even really put up a big stink at all - but they gave me a $100 gift card for my troubles! Next time, just let them know you are a loyal customer and the room is putting a damper on your vacation (bonus points if you mention its your honeymoon!) They would most likely gladly oblige :)

Lol, your experience is very, very different than my bad experiences.

They're not always great. Sometimes they are really terrible.
