Hi, I have heard a lot about terminally ill children getting things special in WDW with the cast members paying special attention and giving them extra experiences and was wondering if this was the same for an older terminally visitor,

My sister is 22 and terminally ill and her favourite place in the world is WDW so we are deciding to go on a trip within the next few weeks. Does anyone know if WDW does anything special or extra for terminally ill adults?

Yeah, the people getting extra attention are from the Make a Wish organization which grants wishes to people with terminal illnesses between the age of 3 to 17 so unfortunately does not qualify. However I am sure if you contact Disney about your situation I'm sure you can plan some special surprises yourself. :)

I know I've heard of an organization for terminal adults akin to Make A Wish for children. Can't think of the name just now.

We actually met a gentleman in an ECV on oxygen who was there with his wife & adult daughter during our January 2010 trip. He was so friendly, quite candid about himself. We thought they were an incredible family and felt so lucky to have met them. To this day we think of them. He really was making his days count with his family. That's what it's all about.

Yes, there are several wish organizations for adults. let your fingers do the walking. I have friends who's kids did wishes to WDW and said they arranged so many special things. My son's wish trip is a disney cruise. They told us they have arranged a few surprises :)

Also, contact the manager of the whichever resort you choose. He or she could probably arrange some special upgrades, surprises, etc.

I hope you all have a wonderful trip.

First please allow me to say I will say a prayer for your sister. I cannot answer your question if Disney does things special for terminally ill patients. But the way WDW is. I would find that hard to believe if they did not. I find that very moving and heart warming taking your sister to WDW. I know if I was in her shoes, I would want my family with me and one last visit to WDW that I could truly enjoy. Life is about quality, caring and love. Longevity when we can have it is just icing on the cake. I hope this trip is made and you and your sister smile from ear to ear and shed a little tear in happiness together. To me it's stories like these that should wake every one up to count there blessing and be thankful for every day that we have on this earth together. Life is short so enjoy everything that you can from it.

If I could say something. I don't know whether to like a post when somebody says they are with a terminally ill person and Disney is doing great things them or not. I like that Disney bends over backwards for these people as would I. I wish well to everyone and their families. Knowing time is limited is rough.
