Tell me your ride breakdown stories....

I hope I never get stuck on a ride where they have to turn the lights on. I love getting insider tips and details but I think there are some things I'd just rather not see or know about. I would think that seeing my favorite rides with the lights on would kinda take some of the magic away.....

Am I wrong?

We were on Pirates back in 2002 and got stuck for 1/2 hour when the ride broke down. It was right at the last scene when the drunken pirates are celebrating all the loot they've gotten - and on the other side are the prison bound pirates trying to get the key from the dog. I got really tired of listening to the whining of that dog. CM had to bring in wooden platforms that went from the boats over the water. I was amazed at how unorganized the entire "rescue" was. These 2 guys did not seem to know what they were doing. They evacuated two boats full and one wheelchair bound lady cut her leg as they were trying to lift her out of the boat. Everyone was taking photos with the props. I got some good video of the CM helping the people over the makeshift bridge. Then, they completely forgot about us in the third boat, and all those behind. Finally, me and the family just jumped over. We were left to ourselves to figure out the exit. Being behind the scenes was pretty cool. Of course, I just wanted out of there and did not take any video behind the scenes.

Anyway, at one time I had some still caps of the video up, but I took them down a while ago. If anyone is interested, I can put up a small video clip.

I was stuck on Small World for over an hour in 1977 (when I was six and a Tower Room at the CR cost $60 - I still have the reservation receipt). The boat that was two ahead of us jacknifed so all the other boats stopped. The worst part was that they never stopped the music.
I have never ever been on that ride again but I guess I will have to when we take our 3 yo DD for her 1sst visit at the end of September.

Test Track

We got stuck on Test Track last year because of rain. we had 2 cars ahead of us before taking the outside track.....and we were put on hold for 30 min....then they let the two cars in front of us go......then another 30 min hold till the rain slowed down. and finally they let us go.

Let me tell you, doing test track in the rain is so much fun. I mean the rain is hitting your face so hard and it just feels as if your going faster then they say u are.

It has been the only time a ride came to a stop for such a long time....and at the end, it was worth the wait.:sohappy:

While I was in WDW this past May I was stuck on ToT for about 20 min. The elevator was stuck in the 5th dimension as well. The lights were on a I got to see all the little detail stuff that you miss when normally going on the ride. Finally they had the ride going again without the effects. Once we got to the bottom a CM was there offering to take those back up immediately for a second ride. Only about 5 of us went.

When I went to Disney's Animal Kingdom, since I was staying at a Disney Resort we got Extra Magic Hours an hour before the park opened for the non-resort guest. We went on Dinosaur since that is the ride my family and I always go on first, after 2 times on it, as 7 of us boarded our time machine we had just gotten into the land of dinosaurs and we stop and the work lights come, and even though other were irritated, being a Disney Fan I found it fascinating. Cast Members came and restarted the computer and it started back and we got stuck in front of the Carnotaurus and than the ride started back up and than as we were going down the hill where the pterodactyls are and soon the cast members came with a ladder and of course I was the last one to get off and we walked to the boarding area. We were stuck on the ride for over 45 minutes.

Here's mine. We were on the monorail it was pouring rain and lighting. The monorail stops and we were not near a platform. They drive a truck with metal stairs (like at the airport) over to the monorail and we are climbing down the metal stairs in the lighting, and we get to to the bottom of the stairs where we expected some sort of bus, there is nothing! Folks scatter in all directions; we re running in the pouring rain and lighting, and I spot the Poly, and we get there, the doors are locked we must continue around the resort to find an open door to get in our of the rain and lighting.

Every time I go I get stuck in something. It's actually quite pathetic. Some worse than others. And I am claustrophobic and have constraint issues, so roller coasters, etc. can get ugly if the ride stops. Been stuck on Space Mountain for about 15 min before they turned on lights and we had to be escorted off the ride. Hold up just before the big drop on Splash Mountain. Been stuck on Haunted Mansion nearly every time I've been on it, as well as Little Mermaid. Never been stuck on Big Thunder. Was stuck for a short time on Mine Cars, been stuck on Peter Pan, had to be walked off Winnie The Pooh. Amazing how many times rides are stopped/break down.

Mine was the first month that Space mountain opened in WDW. I was old enough to ride it and was scared the first time that I rode it. My second time my soon to be brother in law took me on it with just him. We waited in line and I was just amazed and caught up in the darkness and stars and asteroids and so on. The ride got stuck and we waited in line for about 45 minutes waiting for it to start working again. They turned the flood lights on I guess and I was so disappointed that I seen a Brown roller coaster frame with lights trimmed around it on the outside. A much as the magic was revealed before my eyes that day, I am going on 56 and still ride this ride every time I go. Love Space mountain and how a simple concept of a roller coaster disguised with props, light, and special affects if just so dog gone cool.

The oddest time I have ever been stuck on a ride was KS. There was a giraffe that was standing in the middle of the road, they honked asked him nicely to move, nothing worked they had to radio and get someone in a truck out to move the giraffe (they had to lure him with food) It took about 20 minutes and there were truck lined up behind us all because a giraffe decided to be stubburn.

Over the last 35 years I have made 45 trips to WDW, one to Disneyland and one to Disneyland Paris. I have never had a breakdown experience while on a ride. When in Paris, I tried in vain to ride Ratatouille. I made three attempts at it, and every time just before load something broke down and they sent us out of the building. One other time I was almost at load at the Indiana Jones Ride in Disneyland when the fire alarm went off. Anyone that has gone to that attraction knows that the queue starts in Anaheim and the ride is someplace in central Mexico. It was a long ways back. I did get to ride that eventually though with no problems.

EDIT: I just noticed that this thread was started a full two years before the situation at Indiana Jones and 12 years before the Ratatouille one. That might explain why I hadn't posted before on this thread. It hadn't happened yet.

I have been on several rides that stopped over the years. Most annoying was SSE because of the drunks a couple of cars in front of us. Most interesting was space mountain. The lights came on but we didn't have to evacuate, just waited 10-12 minutes and everything went dark then we started moving. But the absolute best was KS. We were stopped by an attacking ostrich. He just did not want our truck to go through.

We have been "brokedown" quite a few times, the last one was last December, CoP, we had to hear the same scene over and over and over and over and over and over.... I am not sure how many times we had to hear about the rumpus room.

The CM kept telling everyone to stay seated, though many left out the exit door. Eventually the CM escorted the rest of us out.

That day, our last time in Magic Kingdom, three rides broke down. Hmm, not a good day for us, Splash Mountain, Pirates and CoP. We were on two of the rides.

And there is the reason why you didn't move. Everything someone opens the door the ride has to recycle. And probably why it stopped the first time. Not necessarily in the theater you were in, but, in any of the 4 theaters CoP will stop if some tries to exit. I wish people could follow direction. Two of the most fun killing words in the world are entitled and stupid.

We got stuck for about 10 minutes today in the big "Spaceship Earth" finale room of (you guessed it) Spaceship Earth. NBD, but the fella and I were curious if it always feels so balmy in there, or if the lack of air conditioning is an ongoing result of the leaking that was happening a few days ago. Anyone know?

By far, our favorite ride to get stuck on is Under The Sea. Wonderfully cool, pretty scenery, and Sebastian's "What's thees? You’ve come to a stop! Maybe it’s that sea witch ..." manages to be equal parts charming and soothing.

But truth be told, the hubs and I relish the day when we'll get stuck just before disembarking from Revenge of the Mummy at USF. We could happily listen to Brenden Fraiser diva-rage about his undelivered coffee for a very long while!
