Team Danny DeVito From Dumbo - Act 8: The Delightfully Different Dark Ride Suite

Some first thoughts based on the movie list:

101 Dalmatians - the scary ride (Cruella car chase)
Bambi or Fantasia - the beautiful ride (My first thought was Fantasia but with no real story it could be hard. Bambi is such a stunning showcase through the seasons)
Alice in Wonderland - the wacky/ thrilling ride (This might be slightly cheating but it could be fun to take what Disneyland did well and expand on it!)
I absolutely love this list! I don't think we could do a car chase for 101 Dalmatians due to the technology in 1971, but I would LOVE to use that movie.

Should we like, hold a vote this evening?? So we know which three we’re doing. And then maybe at that point we can assign the three rides to “beautiful” “scary” and “wacky”

I mean if we pick three franchises that don’t really match the “beautiful” aesthetic that could be a problem, but at the same time, we’re all creative enough to make anything work!!
I would say to first divide us into 3 groups of around 3 depending on which dark ride tone each and everyone wants to work on and then that small group votes on what IP they want to work with.

All of this would still be in the main thread to be clear. I think it'd work well so that we don't get an IP that most everyone likes but doesn't work well with one of the tones that we're working with. As long as the team leader ensures that there's no doubles or anything not allowed by the prompt we should be fine.

Hey everybody, congrats on making it to the Merger! The Judges and my recent Ringling teammates know this already, but I’m out-of-state for my aunt’s funeral, which is today. So I will have some difficulty keeping up with the thread til Tuesday morning, but I will do what I can!

I really like the idea of Bedknobs and Broomsticks as the Wacky ride. Besides Bambi for the Beautiful one, I like the idea of Saludos Amigos, especially in hindsight knowing that South America doesn’t get represented at Epcot. For Scary, I could definitely get onboard with Dumbo’s Elephants on Parade.

Mickeynerd said he was going to sleep on it and get us some ideas.
And now that I'm awake, I've got some!

For beautiful, I was thinking either Fantasia or Cinderella, but the former has multiple stories in it and the latter is already the castle, but I think it would be a great choice regardless!

For wacky, I was actually thinking of Robin Hood. There are many fun and wacky scenes in there that feel like perfect dark ride material. Since someone mentioned a two track ride, this one could be it where we're running through Nottingham fighting the guards and the sheriff. Idk, it just feels perfect for a dark ride.

Also, Hot Take: I personally think Alice in Wonderland is overused and honestly doesn't need yet another ride. We've got teacups and the dark ride in DL plus the teacups in WDW. I think there are other choices that would be more interesting to try that haven't been in a ride before than just doing Alice again for the 3rd/4th time

Robin Hood came out in 1973 which is 2 years after Magic Kingdom opened and where this prompt is set which sucks because I absolutely love that idea.

I'm here! Just finished watching the podcast. Here are my votes:
  • Beautiful: Bambi, as others have mentioned the different seasons would work really well in attraction form
  • Scary: 101 Dalmations, tbh I'm not sold on this but I'm not sure Dumbo works as a scary ride. It fits more into the Wacky vibe IMO.
  • Wacky: Fantasia, this could honestly fill any of the categories with the various scenes but put together I think it would make for a very trippy attraction
Super hyped to be on the merged team! Excited to play again with some former teammates and meet new faces as well!

This project reminds me a lot of last season's Merge Project 8 where we had to design three mini-projects in the same park. Just like that project we now have three rides to make in a single park... so we will need to be organized and budget our time between all three attractions.

Suggestion - last season I created this "leadership model" to help us out. Basically, we have three people per ride (so nine total) plus one person overseeing everything and making sure they have cohesion.
  • Overall Project
    • Project Manager: (I can volunteer myself if needed)
  • "Beautiful" Ride
    • Beautiful Ride Slot 1 (Queue?)
    • Beautiful Ride Slot 2 (Ride Through?)
    • Beautiful Ride Slot 3 (Exit?)
  • "Scary" Ride
    • Scary Ride Slot 1 (Queue?)
    • Scary Ride Slot 2 (Ride Through?)
    • Scary Ride Slot 3 (Exit?)
  • "Wacky" Ride
    • Wacky Ride Slot 1 (Queue?)
    • Wacky Ride Slot 2 (Ride Through?)
    • Wacky Ride Slot 3 (Exit?)
I've assigned tentative roles but they don't really matter, what's most important is if we want to follow this we break up into groups of three and then can make the rides simultaneous in private PMs, while the Project Manager is overseeing everything.

My votes would be

Scary: Dumbo, it may not be the scariest of all of the films, but neither was Snow White. Snow White’s fear factor came from the witch and the forest while Dumbo’s could come from Pink Elephants and the clowns too.

Beautiful: Bambi- It’s super atmospheric and just fits the beautiful feel.

Wacky- Bedknobs and Broomsticks- Genuinely this is one of the most fun and wacky Disney movies, plus we’d be replacing one lesser known IP with another, so who knows, this change could make the IP as popular with park goers as Toad is, making its inevitable replacement by Pooh just as tragic
