Season 19, Act Eight: The Delightfully Different Dark Ride Suite

In celebration of Walt Disney World's 50th Anniversary, let's go back to 1971. Attempting to recapture the magic of the original Disneyland, WDI updated three Fantasyland classics based on three classic themes:

Snow White's Scary Adventures - the scary ride
Peter Pan's Flight - the beautiful ride
Mr. Toad's Wild Ride - the wacky/ thrilling ride

Your challenge is to raze these classic attractions and create three new dark rides for 1971 Fantasyland using each of the three themes: scary, beautiful, and wacky. Your attractions can be based upon any Disney IP from and before 1971 with the exception of the IPs that WDI had intended to use in Magic Kingdom during development:

Sleeping Beauty
Snow White
Peter Pan
Mr. Toad

Alright team, I’m home alone wasted after a work party and have no intention of sleeping tonight, so here’s the list of animated features we can use (up until 1973 as @JokersWild said)

Since I assume we don't have to be beholden to where each three themes go, it'd be neat to make the beautiful or scary ride the one with two tracks to mix things up

Also first IP that comes to mind for the crazy/wacky ride is Three Caballeros and I would love to work on that.

It also sounds like we're not constrained by it being an animated feature, so in theory we could do one based off one of the shorts or any live action movies (and it wouldn't be that out of place considering 20K leagues was a 1971 Fantasyland attraction).

I wanna pitch for the scary one: Dumbo. That pink elephant scene is down-right terrifying to children and I think a dumbo dark ride could be super unique

101 Dalmatians - the scary ride (Cruella car chase)
Bambi or Fantasia - the beautiful ride (My first thought was Fantasia but with no real story it could be hard. Bambi is such a stunning showcase through the seasons)
Alice in Wonderland - the wacky/ thrilling ride (This might be slightly cheating but it could be fun to take what Disneyland did well and expand on it!)

I absolutely agree Bambi would be a phenomenal “beautiful” ride

Absent Minded Professor would be interesting just for being a wacky Fantasyland dark ride using a PPF ride system. Would be a stretch for Fantasyland though with the modern at the time setting.

Anything live action is technically allowed. With Alice just be careful to go out of your way to NOT make it a clone of the Disneyland version. Same with Pinocchio.

I love the ideas for making the scary ride Dumbo or 101 Dalmatians. Both of those possibilities could be a lot of fun.

For the wacky ride, I would like to propose an outlier: The Sword in the Stone. With Merlin and Madam Mim you could go in and do a lot of fun, mind bending and thrilling stuff.

And I agree on Bambi being a prime candidate for the beautiful ride. I would like to add to the list Alice in Wonderland. Which while is mostly associated with its wackiness, I also think that it has its own beauty.

Idea for the scary ride: I think a Night on Bald Mountain dark ride would be awesome with Chernabog, not chasing after you like the Witch, but siccing his entire demon army on you.

I am way way WAY into Alice in Wonderland as the scary ride. I agree with @Sharon&Susan let’s mix it up and have one of the other rides have two tracks.

Although, I guess if we are totally scrapping them and starting over we can do whatever we want so long as the tech exists in 1971.

Should we like, hold a vote this evening?? So we know which three we’re doing. And then maybe at that point we can assign the three rides to “beautiful” “scary” and “wacky”

I mean if we pick three franchises that don’t really match the “beautiful” aesthetic that could be a problem, but at the same time, we’re all creative enough to make anything work!!

Cinderella would be an obvious choice as well. Maybe that also means it’s not the most fun idea, but it would definitely work!!
