Backstory

The year is 2030. Dr Nick Lasowicz has been in hiding for many years, excluding from the amusement park community for his terrorizing designs. With the help of an underground group of engineers and psychologists, Dr. Lasowicz has plans for a cranial enhancement attraction, as he refers to it. Disguised as a standard haunted house ride in any amusement park, the inside of the attraction will bring its riders to the 5th dimension of illusions and sensory overloading effects. It will be cutting edge for surrealist amusement park rides, from the queue to the final scene. Dr. Lasowicz assures that riders will have a newfound purpose in their lives after experiencing the attraction.

Dr. Lasowicz
How we perceive stimuli and the brain's secondary response to that stimuli, is the core functional foundation of the theory of emotion. The Jame-Lange theory of emotion states that a stimuli results first in physiological arousal, which leads to a secondary response in which the emotion is labeled. These physiological responses result in the cognitive labeling of an emotion. The Cannon-Bard theory of emotion tested the James-Lange theory, hypothesizing that the physiological reaction and feeling an emotion occur at the same time, and not in sequence. Lastly, the Schachter-Singer Theory states that both the stimuli and the labeling of a stimuli based on environment must occur in order for an emotion to be experienced.

These are all chivalrous endeavors, but they are mistakes. Like gravity is a mistake.

Experiencing emotion is a cognitive process that can't be broken down in such simplistic terms. The limbic system is a set of structures including the amygdala, thalamus, hypothalamus, hippocampus, fornix, septal nuclei, and parts of the cerebral cortex. Stimulation passes through all of these compartments, externally to internal processing, but what if there were elements that induced psychotrophic effects, that manipulated the mind into seeing things that didn't exist. Forming internal projections on the external reality. By targeting the ventromedial prefrontal cortex, and projection a cerebral concoction into the central nervous system - we may be on the precipice of a visceral neurological breakthrough.

By targeting the vertebral canal of the spinal cord and the cerebrospinal fluid that encompasses the dorsal root ganglion and nerves of the back, posterior sensorial stimulation can travel up to the brain and induce a sort of dreamlike state, where mental manipulation is plausible. Of course, this is for the good of the experience, as any subject in these situations will be experiencing a euphoric sense of oneness with their surroundings depending on how much dopamine and other neurotransmitters are influenced by this sensory overload. If combined with the proper amount of illusions and tricks, one may think that they are in a parallel universe or another form of reality, the 5th, even 6th, dimension of life.

The curious case of Phineas Gage, brought to me by Dr. Cawley. In 1848, Phineas Gage was working with a blasting crew, when a terrible accident happened, sending a tamping iron rod through his head. He survived, but close friends and family noticed several behavioral changes with Gage after the accident. The area of the brain affected by the accident, caused a negative reaction - but what if we could cause a positive reaction? Not by sending rods through heads or anything, but sending euphoric signals to change people's perspective on their lives. My engineers have worked closely with Dr. Cawley on this endeavor to bring a newfound amusement attraction to the masses. Of course due to my work with the Centrifuge Brain Project, my reputation is a bit, shall we say, controversial. But I assure the readers, that with the advances in science and technology over the last few decades since my project was shut down in 2003, my comeback and the new age of "attractions" is upon us. With the release of the Motion Effects (MX) 5D experience just last year, our Mystery Maze attraction will be on display for all to see coming soon.


Facade and Attraction Entrance
The entrance to the attraction is a stone gray design with some grass on top, with a forboding sign that reads, A Beautiful World. The tagline underneath the name to the attraction states: "Clear your mind of all you know, for what's inside will show"

Not your Average Queue


The beginning of the queue takes guests through a room where "wacky mirrors" distort guests bodies. Most are just basic fun house mirrors, which make the guests tall, fat, etc. However, some of these mirrors are actually giant cameras and sscreens, which use technology similar to snap chat, in the way in which they can directly detect and distort individual's faces. Some of these mirrors add Acne, make it look like someone is sneaking up on the individual, or animate the individual falling to the ground dead - scary stuff.

Next, the guests reach a split. Four entrances to a large mirror maze occur here to try and provide the ride with maximum efficiency by allowing people to pass through this as quickly as possible. The mazes release four people into them every twenty seconds per entrance.

There is only one exit to the mega maze which brings guests straight to a dark dock, where the vehicles are ready to be loaded.​

After the riders travel through the mirror maze, they board two-seat futuristic dark ride pods, equipped with a neurosensory integration system capable of producing a variety of effects and stimulation throughout the experience. A Beautiful World is intended to immerse the rider in their own reality, and embrace the higher dimensions of cognitive awareness.

In addition to the futuristic ride-vehicle, there are several patented optical and sensory illusions that are present in the attraction, adapting low cost maintenance and simple engineering techniques.

The attraction will travel along a simplistic dark ride path similar to most carnival haunted houses and dark rides. The "uniqueness" of it is less in type of attraction, and more in the technology behind the attraction, taking visual sensory systems to the utmost level of human capacity.

Ride-Through
Leaving the load station, your pod travels off into complete darkness. At first there is silence, but then as you continue on, you hear this low-toned pinging sound, that is continuous and barely noticeable, but enough where it catches your attention. Flickering and flashing lights glow before you and you feel a chill running down your spine, as colored lights permeate throughout the dark room. Sensory visual stimuli swell the dark corners and flow past you in a mesmerizing way. The pinging sound becomes louder and louder, then suddenly, a clash.

All noise is silent and you see two figures standing in opposite corners of what looks to be a regular room, however the figure on the right is significantly larger than the one on the left. All of a sudden the figure on the left moves over to the figure on the right and grows to the larger height, seemingly out of nowhere. The lights go black and you can feel the turn of the dark ride track moving your pod into the next room. A room where there are several props of interest, all of which show duel pictures. A dark toned narration voice tells you "your mind does not always perceive reality, your thoughts are mistakes"

Consequently, after the several pictures of illusions including one of a rabbit/duck, among other optical illusion paintings, the vehicle turns sharply to the right and enters a distorted room. Walls are jarring out at the vehicles, doors are crooked, windows are on the ceilings. Several creaking sounds are heard as the vehicle moves through, followed by varied natural sounds. A train whistle almost as if a train is roaring through the scene, unseen. Followed by the rushing of waves crashing into a shoreline. You become disoriented not knowing where you are or what is happening in the attraction. Organ music begins to play at a speedy clip, followed by vibrations of the vehicle, almost as if the vehicle is taking off out of the ride.

In pure darkness, as the organ music continues to play, rain is projected upwards, and there are projections of clouds below you. If then, you look up, you'll see the green grass ground of the earth as you feel as if you're upside-down floating in the sky. The organ music flows into a more symphonic sound, but you can only hear it in one ear, which is a bit odd, and you wonder if something is wrong with the sound system.

Then the booming dark voice from before, returns: "Clear your mind and open your eyes"

Surrounding the vehicle now are psychedelic visual stimuli combined with slightly distorted images as well as a cold sensation embedded into the vehicles that sends a physical chill down your spinal cord, which travels up to your brain and induces a sensation of fear and adrenaline with the environment. The combination of Dr. Cawley's psycho-dynamic effects, combined with the surrounding imagery, creates a 1 minute span throughout the remainder of the attraction where the riders have no idea what is happening or where they are. The narrator explains that it is "A Beautiful World" as the clouds drop out from underneath you and the screens to either size give you the sense that you are falling...but falling...up? The distortion of your reality is further elicited when you reach the ground only to find that it is infiltrated by dream-like imagery. Teeth falling out of the sky as raindrops, flying vehicles all around you, and then you're within a speeding tunnel. The tunnel's lights and sounds blast your eyes and ears, you want the attraction to end, but the visual and audio stimuli grasp you away from the attraction experience, triggering your hippocampus to forget the short-term memories you made of the attraction minutes ago. The ride eventually ends as you arrive at the unloading dock, confused and disoriented at the experience you just encountered.

This final illusion is what Dr. Lasowicz had envisioned for his comeback project, and one that will probably get him ostracized from the scientific community once more for the amount of seizures he will produce on his new attraction. But Dr. Lasowicz wanted a neurological experience that went beyond the carnival or amusement park, took the riders out of reality, and made them expand on their cognitive thinking.

Lasowicz states: "Delta brainwave analysis showed that riders had 40% more activity than non-riders. Almost as much delta wave activity as when you are asleep -- showing that, perhaps the ride was all a dream? Maybe it never happened. The amount of stimuli provided in the last few minutes of the attraction make the guests forget any short-term memory before it occurs, creating a moment in time where their minds are open to a higher dimension."

A higher dimension indeed, but maybe one that humanity isn't ready for at this moment in time. We can only wait and see when "A Beautiful Mind" opens in 2030 for riders to experience.

The Dueling Hydra

Themed to a Hydra training facility, this attraction features two of the classic octopus rides interweaving with each other. Eight arms attached to a centra axis spin and move up and down in random, while cars at the end of the arms spin on rotary bolts. Each Octopus ride has the arms attached the middle of the ride. The middle of the ride move with the Hydra symbol.

The Lab Mouse Coaster


In laboratories all around the world, lab mice are running through their mazes to fetch cheese, typically to test a behavioral, spatial, or temporal facet of their biology. However, now -- this mouse coaster sets its riders up on a terrifying journey to catch their own "cheese" and make it out of the maze without getting zapped.

When climbing the 90 degree ascent of the mouse coaster - a sense of fear and adrenline passes through your veins (or maybe that is the mad doctor's hippocampal injection coursing through you), nevertheless you keep climbing. Higher and higher until you reach the peak.



Dropping from the peak you go into a sensory overload of max G-Forces, postive, negative, and lateral Gs -- churning your stomach and erupting your mind into a chaotic blend of confusion and nausea. But the "fun" isn't over. A radical shift in Gs jolts you upwards again at 90 degrees and you keep climbing to a second peak. Eventually the maze comes to an end after a dizzying display of sharp curves, sudden drops, and stops.

Cotton: "There's also two people kissing in the background so maybe in the end of the day -- maybe this ride brings everyone closer together, turning its faults into a proverbial pumpkin.

Mean Girls: Regina's Revenge

Being the Queen Bee, Regina needs to plot her revenge after being hit by a bus

With the help of her mom, Regina creates a new insane carnival ride for her high school and everyone who has betrayed her. With the help of Toaster Strudel profits from Gretchen, Regina builds a large scale bus pinball swirling wheel for people to ride.

Every 10 seconds, the busses fly out and shoot up the sky at 60 mph, only to be brought back down to earth and continue spinning.

The ride is based on this carnival ride from the Centrifuge Brain Project. Regina saw the film and got an evil idea in motion.

With two buses on the ride at a time, one named Regina and the other named Cady Heron, onlookers can vote for which one they want to win.

The Pit of 100 Trials
This attraction based on the area of the same name from Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door will have guests boarding vehicles into a mysterious dungeon of temptation, fear, confusion.

The ride is meant to test the quick decision making process of humans, especially when they are under pressure or have to make extreme life choices. Guests start by entering a dungeon like building for a queue. The further they go down, the darker it gets.



The overall physical description of the attraction would be a simple track ride through a warehouse building containing no scenes. The bulk of the ride comes from the "Neuro Reality Helmets" (helmets that access different points of the human brain and create an image of them through VR goggles). The ride vehicle would be a simple in design, seating one person each for the feeling of isolation (although other vehicles would be relatively close). Each vehicle would have two buttons to press, each with a different choice (one would be to give in or face what you encounter, the other would be to run away or resist a temptation).

At the beginning, decisions would be easy for people to make, but as more trials commence, and the repetitive music drags on, people get immersed into the attraction and it starts to feel real. The decisions made will be recorded and given to participants. The ride can last up to 2 hours.
