"Tangled" in the parks

I agree with those saying the Princess and the Frog was better. Tangled was good, no doubt, but the "hipness" detracted from the film. PatF felt like a 90s Disney classic, while Tangled felt like a modern movie with pieces of classic Disney. Not that that's a bad thing, just not my preference.

Brer Frog, watch the movie before the soundtrack alone. I am not saying this movie replaces any of the modern classics. I am saying that it is a NEW CLASSIC and brings something fresh and so good to us! Alan Menken does GREAT with the soundtrack, bringing in some familiar sounding Disney princess style, with still putting in new material! SO GOOD!!!

Well, too late, I have listened to the soundtrack already.

I See the Light is a great song, it is by far my favorite. I didn't like the mother song, sorry I forgot the title.

Anyone know if Rapunzel is out and about in the parks? My wife and I just took my daughter to see the movie yesterday and we're headed to WDW tomorrow. Up until now I didn't figured it was going to be all about Ariel, but she's been talking about Rapunzel since we left the theater.

A concern about Rapunzel's park representation:

*SPOILER*

What kind of hair will she have? I'd imagine Disney wouldn't want to spoil the ending, but I'd think that she would have her hair at the beginning.

I saw the movie yesterday and I still say Princess and the Frog is a better movie. It was a good movie once it got past the 30 minute mark and they actually got into town. I didn't care too much for the villain, she was no Jafar or Dr. Facilier. As far as the music goes, I'm not sure why people love Alan Menken's music in this movie, I though Randy Newman did a much better job of creating timeless songs on the last movie. I'd take Friends on the Other Side over that Mother knows Best song as far as the stronger song. I cringed a bit when Rapunzel sang " then it's like seven-fifteen". All in all I thought the movie was good but definitely isn't one of the greatest Disney films out there.

They're both tied in my book.

30 minute mark? First 30 was the best imo

And I can't believe you didn't like the villain! With Jafar, he wants pure power and a sidekick. With Facilier, he is working with his friends on the 'other side' and is their puppet. With Mother Gothel, her motives are purely selfish. She has no side-kicks and doesn't even follow through with Flynn's twin enemies. Even Ursula, arguably the most popular modern diva, works with sidekicks.

And I may be Facilier's biggest fan, but I have to say the haunting tone of "mother knows best" and its reprise are really giving friends on the other side a run for its money (song wise) for me.

Mother Gothel and Pascal were my favorites (;

I'd give it a few years before they'd show her with short hair.

I hope they put her hair in the style of when she first goes into the city with the flowers.... very pretty.

I find myself questioning if Flynn will ever be called Eugene?

I loved the Villain song!

Yes, YES, YES!
Best song of the movie imo

Oh the music was so great!!! "Mother Knows Best".. As I have said and will say so much more, this brought back the Disney classic-ness that Disney needs now! I never saw "Princess and the Frog", but this seems and I hope that this is a "re-boot" for Disney now.

See Princess and the Frog. THAT brough back Disney animation, and its position as the one who brough animation back was set in stone with Tangled's excellent reviews and reception.

Really? I thought both screamed 90's. Tangled really reminded me of a better Mulan. Mulan had Tangled's kind of humor.

EVERY Disney movie has humor. Some more than others.

Snow White? Bathtub scene. Dopey, Dopey, Dopey.

The Little Mermaid? Scuttle.Sebastian.

Princess and the Frog? Luis/Ray/Naveen

Cinderella? Stepsisters

And finally, the most humorless film Sleeping Beauty: The kings and 3 good fairies

Need I go on?

I'd take Friends on the Other Side over Mother Knows Best any day, although the reprise of the latter was good.

I'm not saying Friends on the Other Side was better. I think its visuals are MUCH better (I'm biased though) but some lyrics were sketchy (do love that foreshadowing, better puns than even Jafar)

Mother Gothel's song and reprise perfectly summed her up in EVERY way. How her attitude shifts, how she handles opposistion, how she acts towards others.

Oh, no doubt...I still can't get the "hip" dialogue out of my head, it would make it a lot easier to forgive the movie for it's *SMALL* flaws. :(

It does have flaws, specifically with some of the humor. I thought the horse could have been scrapped on paper, but in the movie his humor almost makes up for his flaws.

Yea, the mime and cupid wasn't something I enjoyed, but bar those and make it more classic and it would have been a fantastic movie (not saying it wasn't great already!)
Examples of hip dialogue?
The use of words such as "like" and others irk me off.

Unfortunately I don't know the trailer by heart so those two words out of context tell me nothing

Maybe hip to me means something different...

It probably does, and I'm probably the one with the wrong definition XD

They say something along the lines of "she's locked in a tower...like, forever"

Really? I got the Mulan's army bros vibe from it. I think they used comic relief the best (besides Pascal). I liked how the drunk guy was used in a Disney movie. Very unexpected

How is the word "like" a hip term?

What are the rest?

I agree, "like" isn't really too modern. If anything it makes it more believable. Try talking and not using "uh", "like". And it's not like it was overused either imo.

It's used in a sense that I didn't enjoy;

For example, in the trailer: "like, forever"

Not arguing with the trailer's stupidity, but Ratatouille's was also VERY misleading with its direction and very "Dreamworks" humor-ish  if you know what I mean.

Then maybe my expectations are unrealistic , but it's pretty hard to surpass TPaTF.

I suppose, but I just didn't enjoy the mime part to be honest. I will admit, throwing a drunkard in there was funny!

I doubted Ratatouille as well, but then again I doubt almost every Pixar movie and am continually blown away (bar The Incredibles)

Yeah, if you want forced hip dialogue watch Juno. It's packed with from beginning to end.
