Talking Mickey Meet & Greets in Testing again.

See... THIS is the kind of stuff they should spend money on to develop and then market. THIS is the kind of thing that would actually cause families to book a trip to WDW.

Not this MM+ cr@p.

I believe it's actually related. By giving us Magic Bands for MM+, they can track where we are in the park. This means that they know the names of the guests who are meeting Mickey. I heard that eventually they want to use this to have Mickey and other characters say your name when talking to you--before you even mention your own name to him. Imagine a little girl dressed up as a princess, who goes to meet Rapunzel. She walks in and Rapunzel says, "Oh, Princess insert name here! I've been wanting to meet you!" Think about how awesome something like that would be- all thanks to MM+.

But which name would they use? The "legal" name provided on the reservation (which many people don't actually go by) or the customized name printed on the Magic Bands (which could be something like "Fluffy")? And what if it's a name that could be pronounced one of a few ways?

I'm thinking they'd be taking a big risk by trying to greet guests by a name, since there are too many variables, and thus too many opportunities to mess it up.

Maybe that's another reason for TDO to cook up a Talking Donald Duck. If he mangled someone's name, who could tell? :hilarious:

The latter.
I would guess that a skilled character CM would know exactly how to play off a mispronounced or hard-to-pronounce name very well.
Most of the gals/guys in face character jobs are very good at thinking on their feet; otherwise they wouldn't have their spots.

Further, once this sort of character interaction becomes commonplace it would not surprise me to see an option added to the MyMagic+ app for parents to add pronunciation help for their kids name if they thought it was going to be an issue.

I already addressed this... And it's absolutely ZERO thanks to MM+.

No offense to you. But the reality is one is not reliant on the other. Not even close.

We met Mickey 2 weeks ago and it was myself, my sister and my mother. Mickey told us he had been practicing his mind reading skills and he played a card trick with us. It was actually really cool. I can only imagine it's going to get better when Mickey knows everyone's name.

but the research into this stuff was associated with the NextGen initiatives. These were both part of the NGE R&D initiative to bring a new evolution of technology in the parks. It's why it was called 'Next Generation' to start with. MM+ is a sister tech

Was he full interactive (names and clothes)? or was he doing bits with no interaction?

He said he liked our shirts... didn't specifically say what they were though... They were a tie-dye with a Mickey head on the shirt... But his mouth was moving and he said.. Well lets take a picture... And hello, goodbye.... He said a few other things but at my age, I can't remember what he said! lol

I have a friend who got to experience talking Mickey. She said while the kids loved it she was not impressed as much. She felt it needed to be a little more interactive.

There are 2 talking mickeys, the voice actor actually there and reading the guests, and the automated response one. It seems TDO has gone the automated route, thats why he does those games and says generic phrases which you couldn't really tell if they are about you. Its pretty clever, until you actually try to talk to him back and he responds with him continuing his monologue or a generic wow great, want a picture?. This is what needs to be happening.

That's incredible! That's how it needs to be done. No names needed with a good performer.

Man, that ACTUAL interactive talking Mickey video always blows me away. I would totally lose it right there on the spot if that's the Mickey I met. TDO definitely needs to go with that version, however it works.
