so, i'm sitting here with my 3 year old DS watching the mickey mouse clubhouse and i was just thinking....
does anyone ever think that they will eventually make it to where the characters can talk to the children? i think something like that would be such an amazing experience for kids and they definately could do it with the technology we have nowadays....maybe one of those little voice boxes inside the costume that would change their voices to sound like mickey and the rest of the gang! :) JW

It would be very cool. But I think it would also drastically slow down the picture taking process. Along with I'm sure the friends of the characters would have a real hard time understanding every two year old that wanted to talk to Mickey and I don't even want to think about foreign language problems. But, I do think they should develop it for special events or to use in parades so that the characters could call out to specific people.

There are some characters who talk to the children during picture time -- the so-called "face" characters. Aladdin and Jasmine, Mary Poppins, Belle, etc. It does slow things down a bit, but it's a lot of fun.

As for having Mickey and the animal characters talk, I suspect we'll get there at some point. They already use the technology you speak of in, for example, the Adventurer's Club, where the Colonel talks in the same voice no matter who is manning him.

isn't this what they use for the show in front of the castle and for things like Disney on ice? Their mouths and eyes move and a voice changer is a simple thing.

The only charachter (non human) I ever saw talk to the kids was over at Universal, Donkey from Shrek interacts ( AND quiet well!!!) but he is looking out a barn door, not a full character. MY DS loved it, what was really sweet was there was a mentally challenged lady about 30 years old in front of my DS. She was holding a Rudolph the Reindeer stuffed toy, and Donkey sang "rudolph' to her! She was thrilled and it was just the most magical moment of my vacation! I just thought that Donkey did wonders! :sohappy:
Kudos to Donkey!

He ask my son (Jeff) his name and my son didn't speak up loud enough and Donkey said JACK? From the beanstalk!

Donkey is pretty cool at Universal. Spiderman called my friend gay for wanting to pick him up for a picture. I love Universal :lol::lol:

Although that comment is funny, I bet that spiderman was just a TAD out of character for Universal's liking.

IMO Mickey and Minnie talking at the show in front of the castle was a bit creepy for me. And the Captain Hook face character looks horrible, IMO. Especially with the prostetic (sp?) facial features.

(It's my 50th post, yay!:sohappy:)

The problem with the characters from the castle forecourt show is that the machanics are too loud to be used in up-close interaction. And without the dancing and broad arm movements of the choreography, the "secret" to how it operates becomes obvious.
