Lets break this down,

You have Opera ,( sp ), she is the only talk show host i know who actually has a good decent show.

Then you have Jerry Springer which has always been crap..

The part that sickens me are these shows like " Sally " , " Jenny Jones" , " Ricky Lake " that have changed into the Jerry Springer type of shows! I used to watch them now i dont because I could care less about the subjects.. They are talking to people who screwed up in life like " Slept Around". Or they show those ones where " My child dresses to sexy". Come on... Where is the education value... Lets learn somthing!

But why do they do this?..................

Ratings.......

Pathetic... :fork:

Because it's like a car wreck on the highway everyone is curious and gets residual ratings. also FYI Sallys show was not renewed and is off the air and it's spelled Opraha, it'd Harpo spelled backwards and Harpo is Oprah spelled backwards which is the name of her production company

He tells people things that are so obivious to any normal human being.

This is also the man who said he "hated seeing patients because it bored him".

The 'Dr. Phil Show' is a lot like 'Crossing Over with John Edward' ... both are fake and state the obvious... :hammer:  :D

In the psychiatric community, Dr. Phil is looked down upon because of what he does on his show. He makes quick diagnoses and decisions about peole without finding out any of the underlying reasons why things are happening.

I think it does a disservice to most of the people who get his "help" in a 30 second meeting on that show.

I think it may be just a reflection of society. A lot of the public would like to watch pre-casted, nude, and, to many, pointless shows. It's a big shift in culture...and it seems to be pointing downhill. And it's really too bad. It's not only talkshows - it's sitcoms and more. And it's all over.

And now Disney's going into the bathtub too with their new ABC lineup. Compare it to what used to be on the Disney station (ABC/NBC): The Wonderful World of Color: art, entertainment, comedy, education, imagination. And worse yet, it was just pulled off the Disney Channel.

:brick:   :brick:

And I can't see how it can ever be stopped. A lot of work...and possibly a miracle.

Like I said, I've never seen his show so I don't know what topics he addresses there, but when he first became popular on Oprah he talked about procrastination, over-spending, bad housekeeping and other trivial behavioral problems. None of it really seems like serious psychiatry, and none of the people he "treats" really seem like they need serious psychiatric help. They just need a good swift kick in the @ss, and the general public likes watching it happen.

Personally, I think Dr. Phil is harmless. Someone like Dr. Laura presents more of a difficulty to me, because she tries to tackle very serious problems in the same slap-dash manner as Dr. Phil.

I agree with you Herbie 53! I love to watch Dr.Phil because of the obvious he states. I wish alot of people I know would watch him and listen to what he says. On the other hand, the people I know who need a swift kick in the a$$, also are to self absorbed to recognize themselves. Also, alot of his self motivation I take to heart; I have to give myself permission to succeed and quit worrying about others getting mad at me. I have actually sacrificed what I knew what was best in order from being the 'bad guy'. I always have come out on the losing end.
