Taking a Vacation "Break"

I seem to end up at WDW during playoff season for both Baseball & Football. My friends went to Hoop De Do and I stayed in the hotel room to watch the Patriots win the Snow Bowl.

My best experience was watching, with many of my friends, the Marlins win the 2003 World Series in the Concierge lounge of the Grand Floridian. No beer and peanuts for us. It was Grand Marnier, Bailey's, Amarretto and cashews. And the usually elegant Grand Floridian was awash with hoops and hollars when the last out was made.

Also, when the Harry Potter movies used to premier the last weekend of the Food and Wine Festival, we would always go to DTD and watch.

Also, I often have to conduct or complete business while at Disney World. But then when you are done, you head out to a park and enjoy yourself.

Since we visit so often we do alot of things that are not the usual WDW guest activites.

We have gone to the movies, had lunch, shopped and watched NFL games at a bar, all in Celebrate.

We often go to offsite stores, book stores, drug stores, etc. Ate at Chevys several times at the Crossroads shopping center.

Once spent a day at Cocoa Beach.

And last year during the Christmas Holidays we went over to the Gaylord and saw a Christmas concert with Avalon (Christian music group) and saw the Ice Sculpture Display. I would recommend that to anyone if they do that again this year. It unbelievable. Its a walk through exibit that you have to wear a huge blue parka, you can actually climb an ice castle/fort and slide down a ice slide!

Out of necessity for the sanity of our little ones, we always have a small day, maybe AK in the morning and not much else. They are really good the first day, but the cummulative stimulation gets them off a bit and they can become little devils.

The wife and I, though could go non-stop without sleeping. At the parks.:king:

I'm thinking that our next trip we will do a day that all we do is sleep in, swim in the pool, or drive over to Cocoa beach and spend the day. I could see coming back in the evening and playing mini golf or going to DTD. I know that by the end of the week my wife is worn out, and the kids are getting there. I tend to fair a little better, but I know a little rest wouldn't hurt me either.

On our longer trips, anything over 7 nites, we have a "Laundry" nite. Man that SUX!!!

I also have tons of family within 50 miles of the Maingate, and usually spend some time with them.

Also drove to Siesta Key in Sarasota for the day with my Father & Mother in Law once when they went down with us.

At least once, we've stayed in room to watch college baseball during a June trip since it's one of the few sports at which South Carolina is consistently good.

But generally speaking, once we drive onto the property, we don't leave. Okay, there was that one time back in 1981 when we drove over to Cocoa for the launch of the space shuttle!
