Just received an email from TiW touting the addition of new restaurants to the plan for 2010, so I thought I'd post it here for all of those TiW members who don't get the emails. (Honestly, I think my TiW membership is expired, but as long as I get the emails, I will continue to share them!!)

So could some knowledgeable person do the math?

Tables in Wonderland versus regular Disney Dining Plan.

Family of four, two adults, two children.
Same number of TS meals per day for each plan.

Tks.

Depends on what you order. It's not an apples to apples comparison.

Tables in Wonderland gives you a straight 20% off of most meals, including alcohol. DDP does not include alcohol.

Only one person needs the TiW card. Price is either $75 or $100 and is good for 1 year.

OK, thanks.

Looks interesting maybe.
The breakeven point, if paying $100 for the card, would be when eating $500 worth of food, with the 20% discount.
At that point you have paid for the card.

Here's a quick real-world comparison:

Our most recent stay was for 2 nights. We are a family of four, but our kids are over 9 so they would pay adult rates for DDP. So, for DDP, we would have paid $320 ($40/day x 4 people x 2 nights).

We have TIW instead, and used it at the following: R&C, Les Chefs de France, ESPN and Donalds Tusker Bkfst. The adults had a festive beverage at two of the restaurants, which were included in our TIW total, but wouldn't have been if we were on DDP. Also, our total cost for the meals included 18% tip, which wouldn't have been included on DDP.

Our total cost for two days of dining, including 4 TS meals, whatever snacks we wanted, and a CS meal at Pizza Planet: $300

So, we spent about the same, but got oh so much more, IMO.

Oh yeah, and we didn't have to worry about the $75 investment, b/c we had made that up on prior trips. So, anyhow, on just a two day trip you are already ahead with TIW and it just gets better the more you use it.

EDIT: Oops, one correction: Pizza Planet doesn't count in the total, so no CS meals would be included in the $300 total.

Tks.

One visit for two to Victoria and Alberts with wine pairings and you are ahead of the game!

The two very nice advantages are that the card is good for a whole year, so the longer your visit or if you do multiple visits, you really make out. Additionally as others have said, if you enjoy an adult beverage or two, savings add quickly.
Covers up to 9 guests, while DDP can only be used for guests registered to that card.

There is also no difference in going to a show or signature dining (must use two DDP credits)

We used it TiW on our last trip. We saved $56 on our two castle dinners alone (2 A, 2K) and we were there for 10 days. So we more than made up for the cost of the card.

What's nice about TiW is that it's 20% off EVERYTHING. Our style is to split an appetizer and entree. You have to pay full price out of pocket for appetizers on the DDP and I'm not sure how they'd handle the sharing. Plus alcohol is discounted too. You'd really need to look at a menu and figure out what you'd order if you were not on the dining plan. (The DDP includes desert which we usually don't get.) Tipping is the same % as DDP, but again you'd have to factor in what you'd order on the DDP vs. off. You could have a higher tip on the DDP because of desert or a more expensive entree than you'd normally order...

I was pleased to get this email as well... I just ate at Bistro de Paris last night and saved some, was very worth it BTW... I am disappointed to see that the Tequila bar in Mexico isn't on there yet though :(.

Doing the Happy Dance :)

SHULA'S? The best Steak House at WDW? Fulton's, the BEST Seafood spot? And Portabelo, the BEST Italian Food? TIW just increased in value by 30% :) Good job folks... none of these are Disney Owned, and you STILL got 'em into the premium Dining Discount plan :)

Hey Trotsky.... How do you go about making a reservation at these restaurants? Can you call WDW-DINE and make an ADR even though they aren't owned by Disney? Or do you just have to call the restaurant directly? And how far in advance can you make a reservation?

About the only one on that list that is not avaliable through Disney Dining is Kimonos. If they take reservations you would need to call them directly.

What would really make the TIW program great is if it was offered to all DVC members!!!! I would think that would be a great perk for members and a lot of members would participate in TIW instead of paying for the DDP

Do you mean that all DVC owners should be allowed to purchase TiW, instead of having to first purchase an AP? I agree, it would be nice, especiallly since most of the restaurants are in the resorts, not the theme parks. :D

Let them know. It wasn't that long ago that TiWL (formerly the Disney Dining Experience) was only available to Florida Residents. If enough people want it they just might do it.

Good Point!!

C'mon, celticfan, we'll put our regional sports differences aside, take this over to the DVC forum, drum up support and overwhelm the Member Services website with a petition to allow DVCers to enroll in TiW!!

(assuming, of course, that you're a fan of the NBA team, not the FC...) :o

That is exactly what I mean. The annual pass is not really a value unless you go to WDW for more than a week at a time or more than once in a calendar year.

As a DVC member i would not even be looking for any type of discount on the TIW price, just the opportunity to buy into the program without having to get an annual pass first. Would be a great perk for all DVC members.
