In watching the original Swiss Family Robinson on TCM today, the host mentioned a remake is in the works. Does anyone have any solid information?

There were rumors of a Tarzan makeover for the ride, but I don't know if the plans really existed or if it was speculation.

I know Disneyland's treehouse has been Tarzan's place for a while. Maybe the commentary is really old. I haven't heard of it for the Magic Kingdom. A remake of the movie would be pretty cool!

A remake done right, yes. One done wrong is worse than a badly played violin.....

The news of a remake starts my blood pressure to pounding (angrily), as the original Swiss Family Robinson is one of my Top 5 movies of all time, and the MK Treehouse is an overlooked gem of an attraction. It is hard to top the high adventure of the original movie. Aside from Kevin Corcoran being just a shade on the annoying side (sort of his stock in trade), the movie is note perfect. My framed movie poster hangs directly above my desk as I type this.

Seems like Spring is always the time when we lose Disney legends. Fess Parker this year, but Ken Anakin, who directed SFR, passed away last April.

I love the original film, and fear that any remake would be full of explosions and other action movie cliches, since those are the kinds of films that really rake in the cash these days.

However, if there eventually is a remake, and Francis is as annoying and stupid as he is in the original, then I hope he gets eaten by something.

The title of this thread was misleading a bit and almost sent me flying off the chair, I thought at first it meant they were going to change the swiss family treehouse in adventureland!! thanks for the panic attack.:p

I think I'm going nuts. I swear that the Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse in the Magic Kingdom briefly had a Tarzan overlay. I can't quite remember when, and, I can't find any information online about it, but I remember it clear as day. Martin, can you delve into those wonderous archives of yours let me know if I'm imagining this? It must have been close to 10 years ago.

And no, I'm not thinking of Disneyland's, because I've never been there.

I LOVE the original movie and I think its a shame more people don't know about it. I was so excited when it was on tv this weekend. I'm ok with a remake as long as they keep it pretty close to the original.....however.....if Lindsay Lohan is in it (as mentioned above) then it's ruined from the start.

Swiss Family remake

Hilariously my husband and I visited The Magic Kingdom a few weeks ago, and as we were climbing "the tree", I said that they should do a remake, and that I couldn't believe they hadn't done one yet. He said I should make the suggestion, but I hadn't written it yet.

Then, we watched the TCM broadcast the other day. We marveled at the scenes that today would flag PETA screamers and some kind of child protection act services!!! LOL!! They will definitely be using a LOT of CG to remake this, as the tiger/dog scene, ostrich riding and snake in the water will just not happen exactly as they did originally. We were marveling at how "in danger" they actually put these actors. It was hilarious to watch and think of how now-a-days they will be shouting "CG" or "extra"!

It will be interesting to see the new version, if they proceed.

Finally I found someone who saw the same thing I did! I swear they changed Disney World temporarily to Tarzan. I am currently in Disney World and when I saw the Swiss Family sign I was confused as I knew they had changed it before. Thanks for verifying, I also thought I was going crazy.
