I know the pools are heated, but is the weather warm enough to swim comfortably in mid-march, specifically at AKL or Yacht/Beach club?

thanks so much for the help, love the site.

Early spring weather in Central Florida is unpredictable.

You may have wonderful warm sunny days or cold cloudy days.

Bring your swimsuits just in case.

I can give you the average temps for March.

Average Highs 80ºF
Average Lows 57ºF

Average rain 3.2inches

Hope this helps and have a great trip!

We go to WDW often in March and have always swam. One year (1998 I belive) it was a tad chilly, but we put in one day anyway (that is what hot tubs are for.)

I think ALK should be good, the pool is very nice.

SAB at Y&B is wonderful. We spent many a day and night swimming at SAB, or really just playing in the sandy water with 2 year old DD last March 2003 (1st week). One night we played until 8:30 at night, and were perfectly warm. It was the most fun and best day of the whole trip.

March can be a little hit or miss, like any winter month (we are going in a few days and so far the weather looks acceptable (mid 70's, we plan to do a lot of swimming.)

In fact March can be better for swimming because less thunderstoms then the summer time. (aug was unbearable in my opinon.)

Bring sand toys if you have young ones.

I agree with everyone else. I ALWAYS bring a swimsuit, just in case. Unless it's a rainy/cloudy day, you can swim in the afternoon at any of the protected pools. If it's chilly, just have a towel and sweatshirt close by; sort of like going to the beach in New England during the summer.

Thank you all for the helpful replies.

DisneyPhd - your personalized reply is right up my alley, as we have a 2 year old too, and I was wondering about this time for him.

DisneyPhd, are you sure you aren't a member of the polar bear club, since you mentioned you will be going in a few days and swimming?!

I've been in January several times over the past year for annual conventions and have been unable to get past ankle deep because it was too cold, even in the heated pools of Hyatt Grand Cypress.

Sounds like swimming in march is definitely likely, and not too chilly most times.

When i go in December, I swim in the pool at Coronado, and I find the wather to be just fine. If it's sunny, it's usually allright.
We even went to Typhoon Lagoon. It's really not that bad. Have Fun!

LOL dvm, no we are not a member of the polar bear club! I just have a 2 year old who loves to swim and my 12 year old niece will be with us and she loves water. We might even try BB if it gets warm enough (high near 80, I think Sunday Jan 4th is forcasting it.) Anything that is comfortable to be outside is warm when you are used to Michigan in the winter. Today it was near 50 and I saw people walking around in short sleves.

The 1st time we were at Y&B we went in Feb for just 4 days (a mini trip since I was 32 weeks pregnant.) We really just wanted to hang out in the pool. A cold frount came by and it only got into the mid 50's most of the trip. The very last day the sun came out and it hit mid 60's. We got an extended check out and were in the pool until 1:00. (our ride came at 1:30 to take us to the air port.) I will admit it was a tad cool that day, but that is what hot tubs are for.

You will love SAB it is great for 2 year olds. The sand bottom wadding area is perfect for playing around, the hot tub is right near it so one parent can hand out there. One night all the other dad's around were joking they should buy my hubby a beer for wachting their kids too. Our DD and all the other young kids were having a blast builing a casltle in the shallow area and my hubby was right there leading the group. It was great fun. We are sad that we aren't at BCV this trip because we love SAB that much. (but we are looking forward to tying out VWL, our DVC home resort.) They have a nice little play ground too too. Y&B has a total of 6 hot tubs in the whole resort. 3 at SAB and one at each of the other pools. Eat at Beaches and Cream, we love that place. All in all BC is my favorite WDW resort, not only becuase of SAB, but many reasons. They sell some sand toys and the kids meal comes in a bucket with a shovel. At the end of the day their is 30 or 40 of them no one claimed, just foalting around to grab.

AKL is zero entry, has a nice slide a 2 year old might be able to handle (not mine, she won't go with out me.) It also has a great play ground. (and 2 hot tubs.) Both are really young child friendly resorts. One of my favorite things about AKL is you don't share busses with any other resort and there is just one stop. That really cuts down on the time you spend on the bus, even if you kind of far away from most of the parks (MK only).

Have a great trip. I like WDW in March, sometimes it is a bit busy, but not like a holiday or anything. (We have to go when Mr. PhD's school is on break.)

Just got off of the phone with WDW. Booked AKL Concierge for mid march, can't wait!

Zero entry pool is going to be perfect for our little one - I didn't know that until you posted.

I've seen pics of the pool many times, but never any pics of the play ground. Do you have any or know of any posted?

Hi, I have some good pictures of the pool and playgroud. We stayed there for one night last Aug, it was our 10th wedding aniversay. We stayed at OKW for 10 days, but since BIL and SIL were staying with us, we let them have our room and DD for one night and headed out to AKL. It was out 1st night away since she was born.

I can post the pictures a bit later, I think I need to shrink them down in size.

Here is a link to a website that has really good resort pictures too. http://www.allearsnet.com/acc/g_akl.htm

Have a good trip.

You'll be fine. Our weather here in Florida gets into the mid-high 70's as a high for the day, and the pools are heated as well. It is fine conditions for swimming.
