Survivor: Cook Islands

I'm sure Mark Burnett and Jeff Probst are loving every bit of publicity this version of Survivor has amassed. Whether the publicity is good or bad makes no difference. Survivor has a buzz again. For those unaware, the hook this year has the contestants divided along racial lines. It's cheap, it's crass, it's exploitative ... count me in! I've been a fan since the first season, and I'll be on board for this one, as well. Anyone else?

I think this season will be great..they will only be divided into 4 groups for a while and it will make for great TV...

I'll be watching it! I love the show! However, I am more excited to see the Amazing Race come back.

I love Survivor, and am really looking forward to this season.
The division is only a temporary thing and will make the merge that much more interesting!

For the last couple of Survivors I usually watch the first five or six episodes and then lose interest...I hope that doesn't happen this time.

What a GREAT week for TV, as my two favorite shows debut a new season!

SUVIVOR and AMAZING RACE!!!

We'll have to keep the chatter about the show going through the season again!

It's great to have Survivor back! Survivors ready ... Fire represents life ... the tribe has spoken ... yes!

My thoughts on tonight's show:
1. The average age of the cast is a lot lower this year.
2. There's a WDW tie-in. The Caucasian tribe gets to stay on Rarotonga, which is also a longhouse at the Polynesian. Maybe I should have put this thread in the WDW Resorts and Trip Planning forum.
3. I'm glad they kept the Exile Island concept and the hidden immunity idol. Based on the clue, it's got to be buried below the tide line.
4. The tribal council set - a broken down pirate ship - is one of the most impressive the show has put together.
5. The guy voted off took it pretty well. I was hoping the woman who said she was the swing vote (and turned out to actually be the swing vote) would've been voted out. I love it when someone is so confident they are safe then end up getting the surprise boot.

I tried watching last year when my friend's friend was on the show. But she was the first one booted, so then I didn't have to watch anymore :lol:

I agree, good or bad, the move was a smart one. It got people talking about Survivor again.

Oh and we will. I really enjoyed the show tonight. Even though the tribes are divided by race the bigger division of gender is still there as shown in tonight's voting results. I also liked the pirate ship, that was a very creative touch.

Observations:

--Dividing by race really didn't seem to be that big of an issue. Sounded like some of them were proud to represent their heritage like that.

--Some things were said by the racial tribes that would never have gone over in a mixed group. For example from the AA tribe: "you don't tell a black person what to do".

--The tribal council set is amazing. Best one yet.

--I was shocked at how small Exile Island is. Good point on it being exposed at low tide. And two days on the island? Wow.

Glad they continued Exile Island...it's always an interesting dynamic... deciding who to send there certainly has many strategic repercussions.

I hope it will be a good show... recently I have not remained terribly invested throughout the season...

I'm so glad to have somethign new to watch on television I can't stand it... It's been a long summer...

I watch survivor every season. I was a sociology major in college, so it's always been a fun show to watch and dissect for me.

I'm betting these 4 tribes won't stay like this for too long before they become 2 tribes....if one tribe loses more than a couple members, there won't be much left of them. They started with 4 last season and quickly went to 2.

We said that TC set looked awesome and beats out the others for artistic value by far!

I had to laugh because the only constant mentioning of "the race card" was what the groups were saying about themselves! :lol:

The show is looking pretty good, so far....
